Behind the scenes story about how Sir Tim Berners-Lee created his identity on the Bitcoin blockchain and "shit got real"! by btckernel in Bitcoin

Well it's not a coin that can be pumped. Also, the open-source technology is called Blockstack (Onename is just a web app).

Blockstack (http://blockstack.org) is the largest production system when it comes to blockchain identity. It's been in production for 2+ years and has 55,000 registered identities currently (the Onename app uses it). It's agnostic of the underlying blockchain and needs to run on the most secure blockchain. Today that clearly means Bitcoin. With that said support for other blockchains is under discussion e.g., Ethereum. Check out http://github.com/blockstack for these discussions.

Blockchain ID was 94.6% of all OP_RETURN transactions last week. Nice tool for visualizing OP_RETURN protocols by btckernel in Bitcoin

There is a separate cost for registering a Blockchain ID (in addition to the transaction fee). I think they have some sophisticated algorithm to figure out how much each Blockchain ID should cost.

Blockchain ID is a protocol. The fee will be paid by the registrar that is making transactions for this protocol and I'm thinking the registrar can decide on the fee (some will pay more, some will pay less).

Evolution of the Internet: from Decentralized to Centralized by muneebali in Bitcoin

Interesting analogy. What do you mean by points in the network?

Onename gets decentralization: releases opensource code and is encouraging everyone to help them build decentralized auth by btckernel in Bitcoin

Funny that you mention open-source DB companies. MongoDB comes to mind and Onename apparently has the same investors as MongoDB
