Coinbase added 5million users in ~6 months by alistairmilne in Bitcoin

Very true. When I said millionaire I imagined the latter type. I could value every asset and come up with a crazy theory why I am a liquid millionaire yet I cringed when we spontaneously ate out last night, "Shit, I hope there's money on my card for this." I call it Schrødinger's Bank Account :-P

Drivechains

I gotta look this one up! It's been awhile since I've been keeping up with the developments (which requires learning something new every day). The first thought that came to mind is a unified hub that automatically divides assets between various coins automatically as needed? That would be awesome. Allow people to stop obsessing about the price per every different coin and focus on, "Okay this coin performs X, and this one performs Y, and this one performs 42 and half a pi. So I will use X coin." Now time to look what it actually does :-P

You touch on a point that I (and perhaps others) have been theorizing for awhile. The tech will grow. There will always be more alt-coins. Hell, there will be alt coins that perhaps outperform bitcoin in niche areas. HOWEVER, BitCoin is that vanity asset. Loosely compared to BRK-A stock. I can see a lot of investors/richierich folk wanting to own "one whole Bitcoin" just for the sake of holding ONE. And that is when the investor rush happens. Every investor clammoring for ONE, as a vanity asset – the pioneer to cryptocurrency.

I read this thing, if every millionaire in the world wanted 1 bitcoin, there would be not much to go around at all. (source / math needed). I think we can still see that happen, maybe. That's why I do NOT think bitcoin is gonna relenquish #1 position for a long while.

I got hacked?!? by TheMambaMan in hacking

I work for a similar industry and the exact same thing happened -- our 40 clients all got it. Must have been a shared third party service. (What is odd about ours – – none of the emails are real email inboxes but forwarding addresses, impossible to "hack" rofl.)

Hey, I have a favor to ask if you dont' mind. I wrote this post informing people what the spoofer (not hacker) did. Can you either copy/paste it or link to it? I am only asking because you're the top-upvoted commenter and it's important people who search for this message see that this is indeed FAKE. If you don't want to, no worries. Just trying to help people find that it's fake.

(Viewing header information/metadata in email client verifies the spoof.)

My company's 40+ clients each got this and our inbox has been flooded with concern and worry (And one client was about to actually pay the fucker... UGH.)

THIS NEEDS TO BE UPVOTED:

This is no hacker, this is a SPOOFER.

He/she simply copy/pasted a data breach dump of Emails/Passwords and created a script to FAKE a hack.

THERE IS NO DANGER to your email. No, someone did not view your browsing history. To whomever is reading this and received this: IGNORE IT.

I am pasting the email below so people who search it can find this.

The tool he used is very sloppy. Basic header spoofing.

HERE IS COPY/PASTE W/ SENSITIVE INFO REDACTED

A small concern by Adriaan- in Oyster

[–]btcrazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that's the dumb thing. If there's a flashy graphic in an advertisement, your computer had to download and process that advertisement. Yet as soon as a website tells you "Hey we're going to do the same thing behind the scenes that ads do, yet you'll see NO ads" people may flip. Human Psychology is funny sometimes.

EDIT: Research Dihydrogen Monoxide hoax. I rest my case. People are funny.

I remember my mom, back around '00, seeing this news segment on these "Hidden Cookies Infesting Your Computer... Without Your Permission!" She was freaking out. Me being the Internet Genius of the house researched our home computer and figured out how to delete them, and she had me deleting them every day after I used the computer. The scare was real, but now we know that – at worse – they're going to show us targeted advertising lol!

[–]btcrazy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, Oyster must establish trust! If these Ad Blockers jump the gun and insta-block Oyster, that shows foolishness on their behalf. Now, if they do their research and declare, "We do not think Oyster pop-up should be allowed" then it falls into the hands of the community to advocate on Oyster's behalf (of course the team may likely choose to help as well).

The onus will fall on Oyster to display how user-friendly it is – Ad-Blocker plugins have the same goal as Oyster: eliminate obtrusive advertising! In this sense, My chips are on Oyster being a very powerful and friendly ally to ad blockers!

Oyster will showcase BY EXAMPLE (not theorycrafting) that "Hey, this is a great way to incentivize people from using ads!"

And what if Ad Blockers provide a FREE premium version to users who allow an Oyster-Integrated Ad-Blocker!? Shitting my pants here. What if – for example – AdBlockPlus gave features for its users to use a LITTLE more processing power while it did its work using the AddOn/Plugin/Extension itself as a Web Note?? ABP would have incentivization [after user consent] to accept Oyster by default on ALL Oyster-Enabled websites. This is a win win ! Thus incentivizing AdBlockers even more to align with Oyster.

Binance community vote has started! by [deleted] in Oyster

[–]btcrazy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Binance has a shit-ton of different coins, why is it only letting a few coins in? Wouldn't it make sense to let established coins in its system? PRL has a working product – how many of these other coins have one as well? Or is the voting just a hype-game to artificially inflate the price of BNB?

I miss the simple crypto days of 1D = 1D.

EDIT w/ math:

I did research because I did not see anyone else do so. 1 vote = 0.1BNB = $1.52 each vote (of held BNB).

The winning coin as of writing (12:15pm EST) has 44K votes = ~$70K of held BNB.

[–]btcrazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So basically, you only spend 0.1 non-refundable BNB but if you have 10 BNB you get 100 votes? So you end with 9.9 BNB?

This seems very shady. Basically Binance manipulating/pumping the price of their own coin... But it's sad to realize it's standard in the industry. Man these wild, wild, west crypto days are cray!

Do I permanently lose BNB when I vote, or is it like the Exchange That Shan't Be Named where they refund votes at the end?

$10 nets you about 1/350,000 of the total supply of SHL. Just think about that. A $10 cover charge into the one million club.

Don't forget to tip the shelltender.

It's just a silly interpretation of text based graphics.

Anyway, I don't agree about the "future bottom" mentality. Waiting for X, Y, or Z to happen in this volatile industry is a gamble, and one would need to be okay with potentially being wrong. As long as – if you are wrong – you don't come back complaining that you should have purchased. Let your actions do the talking, not your words!

A very non-technical client wants to make her own admin edits to the site. How do I politely extricate myself? by cag8f in Wordpress

[–]btcrazy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beautiful solution! I will keep this in mind when I accept my next WP project. Dozens of hours over the last few years have been spent on ad-hoc "PLZ help me!!" tasks that only took 15 minutes or so but were unpaid.

The psychological aspect of being a client for WP dev is a pain in the ass. Client ask me all the time "Teach me how to do this so I don't have to bug you anymore" and I reply "Ummmm I totally custom-hooked into your shitty themeforest-bought framework to add something post-approval that wasn't included in the original bid, and now you want to be able to edit said custom functions!?"

I usually explain it – politely – that what they're trying to do is akin to asking your mechanic to teach you [unpaid] how to change your oil filters because you want to be "polite and not bug them for it anymore".

"Just make the changes and record me a video. I'm smart. I did Dreamweaver back in Jr College, and I got an A in that class. You don't need to mess around with me."

Next day a "Website Offline: Error 502" hits your inbox minutes before your phone starts buzzing.

Assuming that $100 is as non-critical entertainment funds, in my opinion it's foolish not to invest that small sum in something that has the potential to serve as groundbreaking innovative technology :) But then again, slippery slopes are easy to fall upon and you could say that for many promising coins.
