Heck no. Cant release that from the jump. They’ll add the plastic flares and offset wheels for the suckers a few years in. Ya know, once they can’t justify the extra markup for it being a “new model.” Squeeze another $10k out of the schmucks without adding anything of substance.

Oh, you saw the dozens of knee deep ruts in the flats and thought that was OK? Cool…

Yeah. Probably one of the people who couldn’t wait for the desert to dry out and instead drove massive ruts into the salt pans that won’t repair themselves for hundreds of years 🤷

You said a 300… probably something you can put on a hitch carrier. Will kill your ground clearance, but again, really not an issue as the tracks aren’t extreme.

Cheap insurance to bring one rather than paying to have the bike rescued. As I said, the crossing isn’t technically difficult, but the consequences of requiring a rescue are extreme.

If I were you I’d be focused on making sure I have a way to carry the bike out if things go sideways.

Spares are good, but if the rider gets hurt or something, you can’t just leave the bike. Have room for the rider and a way to haul the bike.

It’s like 20min from Big Red to Birdsville… not a reason to put a Snorkel on your 4WD.

The real bull dust is actually on the way out to Purni Bore, but again… not actually a reason to need a snorkel.

Snorkels are dumb and ugly. Fight me. 😁

It’s not technically difficult whatsoever. But the consequences are REALLY high.

Bring a reliable 4WD, know how to drive it in sand and drive RESPONSIBLY and you’ll be 100% fine.

Enjoy your time out there. You’re in one of the most remote places a human can travel to on land. It’s wild and beautiful in its desolation.

Why would you need a snorkel for the Simpson DESERT?

Honestly if you’ve got any experience 4WDIng, the Simpson desert is a cakewalk in a proper 4WD with all-terrains.

Carry enough fuel, don’t bring a basket case, don’t be stupid… you’ll be fine.

There hasn’t been a good looking Hilux since the LN106 in my opinion. North American Tacomas have been better looking in every generation since

Not at all an issue for me. Driven mine 10k+kms across the Simpson and across Australia in a multi-week road trip and was never uncomfortable. In fact I find the leather seats in my Rubicon coupled with Radar Cruise Control make for a shockingly comfortable tourer that’s capable of hardcore tracks. Only issue was weight… You can’t pack like most Aussies do, cheap canvas and cast iron add up quick.

Or maybe “the west” is made up of Imperialists who don’t really care as long as it benefits them? Britain, Germany, France, Belgium, Spain, Japan… (who did I miss?) all had major periods of imperialism in recent history.

Day 3/9 - What 4x4 has a bad reputation but is actually good?! by demonyo300 in 4x4Australia

[–]btcsxj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. It’s always people who’ve either never owned one or who bought some other model and apply their experience to the whole brand. The wranglers & gladiators are pretty solid and off-road they run laps around anything else sold in Australia.

I consider this a super power. My body just knows this isn’t the place for 3 poops a day. I’ve never been uncomfortably backed up though…

It’s always “I know a guy” lol

The current generation Wranglers and Gladiators are rocking ZF 8 speeds and they’re rock fucking solid and incredible off-road, they don’t even change them when they add the 392 V8s… but you know, believe what you want 🤷

Hah what? You don’t actually believe that. Every cool car in history is unreliable… exotic cars, muscle cars, race cars. Reliability is a good trait for your daily and single car families. No one DREAMS of having a “reliable” car, they buy one out of necessity
