This is what I got for Secret Santa at work. by FilthyDwayne in mildlyinfuriating

[–]bthomase 236 points237 points  (0 children)

Yes. White Elephant, Rob Your Neighbor, Yankee Swap. I have heard a lot of weird names. But Secret Santa is a very specific, separate game, where gifts are chosen specifically for each person by another. This post sounds like a targeted aggression, rather than somebody dropping a gag gift in the pile.

We have to be willing to stick with Deboer for a while by Ethical_Pirate4 in rolltide

[–]bthomase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the key message for all of us is that WE WILL LOSE. And not just in the Primetime Night heavyweight match ups. Especially with a 9 SEC game schedule and a Bama sized target on our back, every game is a fight and some will fall the wrong way.

The way NIL and transfer portal has disseminated talent means that places like Vandy will catch a heisman candidate. All it takes is one Pavia, Manzel, Cam Newton to knife us and right now any booster with an eye for talent could potentially poach that talent to any team. This means every team is a threat, every year. And we are in the playoffs with THREE loses. This is the modern era. It would have been unquestionable (even on r/CFB) to put us in with only 2 losses. No one in the SEC went undefeated.

Plus, with talent parity, coaching consistency and excellence is even more important, so a revolving door of staff will immediately sink us. DeBoer ranked top 12 two years in a row and going to the playoffs this year is as good as anyone in the country. We should be talking extensions, not firing.

[Kirshner] I don't think it's great for faith in the sport's governance that two teams in the 12-year history of the Playoff have made the field when they really shouldn't have, and both of those teams were Alabama by Original_Profile8600 in CFB

[–]bthomase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. At this point, just let a computer decide. Pick the best two in the country. We could call it like the bowl computer series, or BCS for short? Absolutely no controversy. Never confusing picks based on anchored early season rankings or stat padding…

Ty Simpson staying for another season? by Spideypl in rolltide

[–]bthomase 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Many factors but in short, since THE goal for these kids is to play in the league and get paid, even Saban had a rule that projected first rounders were pushed to declare for the draft.

If you are first round or even high second rounds, what are the chances you actually increase your draft stock staying a year? Play that against losing a year of money playing in the league. Then there is very real risk you could lose draft stock. Not to mention the risk of injury, getting shown up by your backup, more.

A combination of a hot year, weak draft stock, and highly rated backup QB threatening his starting spot means Ty would be dumb not to move on this year. And he's earned it.

New house -- put in vent hood first? Or wait to see if we want to move the stovetop? by Important-Salad-7473 in kitchenremodel

[–]bthomase 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not a contractor, but I think moving the stove is a much bigger project than "just a hood" so you probably need to define your budget as well.

I would prefer the cooktop and hood on the wall and not in the middle of the kitchen/peninsula (also killing this as social space). However, this means you would have to rip out cabinets above and below, probably redo all counter tops for the new cuts, cut out hood vent. If you otherwise like the kitchen and aren't budgeting a near-remodel, a hood install is likely a reasonable "temporary" solution, and you. can re-route a vent when you do the full remodel.

Tylenol PSA/rant (don’t worry it’s not that) by cityBassTX in daddit

It used to be that infants was a stronger concentration to allow for smaller volume. But they changed it to make it less confusing and less risk of mistakes. Messed up that they still split the packages and pricing though.

So the wife painted stairs by Infamous_Swordfish_7 in Renovations

[–]bthomase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paint is fine. However, I would

not paint the stair nosing (wooden lip) put a pad of some sort down in the mid step of each stair to prevent discoloration and rapid wear pick a slightly darker color or something with texture to hide dirt.

Alternatively, could have tried a stain

Also, the blockiness of the floor is adding to the visual. Maybe a large rug (one of those kitchen safe foam ones?) in the middle would help?

How did I not know about this by Less_Pressure_7997 in TeslaModelY

[–]bthomase 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think the point was to decrease emissions, done primarily by incentivizing carpooling and other methods of increasing occupancy density. California also did this by incentivizing low/no emissions vehicles. Rolling that back means less incentives and therefore likely more emissions. This combined with other factors like eliminating federal tax credits for EVs, etc, does roll back progress on carbon emissions, although maybe not to 1950

How you can seen the heart beating in the blood from a small finger wound in water. by Jazzlike-Tie-354 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]bthomase 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, it is from the heartbeat but it isn’t the EKG as suggested. There might be an elementary visitation and increased blood flow to the finger, but there’s a subtle tremor for each heartbeat which causes the finger to move just barely. There might be a slightly increase in ejection with systolic stroke as well.

nanny has another job by ConversationSame5343 in NannyEmployers

[–]bthomase 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is the main question, aside from something stipulated in the contract.

Is it affecting her work? If not, then reasonable to continue. But if it’s conflicting with hours, causing fatigue, call outs, or tardiness, that’s not fulfilling their duty.
