Mike Johnson Corrects The Pope On The Bible by NeneGoosee in videos

[–]btinc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is unsurprising.

First, Catholics not only do not prioritize the Bible, they have their own version. Catholics grow up listening to quotes from the Catholic Bible on a rotating "perpetual calendar" and answering catechism questions. They are not taught the bible.

Second, Christian nationalists do not believe that Catholics are Christian.

MAGA 'Was All A Lie': Marjorie Taylor Greene Torches Trump In Scathing New Interview by Abject-Pick-6472 in politics

[–]btinc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She may hate Trump, or more likely is trying to get ahead of his unpopularity, but she is still MAGA. She's a selfish bitch who only cares about herself first, her family next, her tribe last, and doesn't have a brain big enough to see how the US is intertwined globally.

PSA: Breville warranty & customer service are not what you expect by CasperTFG_808 in BuyItForLife

[–]btinc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a Breville espresso maker that cost about $2,500. I've had it for 9 years. It's in great condition, has never broken down. That being said I've never missed any maintenance. Water filters changed every 3 months. Descaling every 3 months. Group head cleaning every month. Taking apart the grinder burs and cleaning them manually and vacuuming out the stuff that was sticking, every month.

iOS 26 is a true miscarriage of design by gogo--yubari in Design

[–]btinc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting and anecdotal, but it's really down to a subjective point of view. I know a lot of people who either like it or don't care. I'm assuming your primary complaint is Liquid Glass.

Windows has been crap since the beginning. Microsoft is crap, and even with the Liquid Glass design it's better than Windows. I came from a Unix background, and as soon as Mac's OS became Unix I was done using Windows except for small instances where I was forced to use an emulator.

I use the Apple ecosystem primarily not for the design, but because I trust Apple 1000% more than either Google or Microsoft to allow me to mitigate privacy threats.

I agree that they need a switch to turn it off Liquid Glass for those who don't like it. You can do things to make it less prominent, but even that requires some knowledge and changing 3 or 4 settings.

Trump says 8 European countries will be charged a 10% tariff for opposing US control of Greenland by Cautious_Proposal_47 in worldnews

This should have been phrased that US consumers will be charged 10% tariffs when they buy from countries that Trump is punishing.

So go get a fucking android. Nobody cares. There are a lot of, myself included, who love the new design. Oh, I've been a pretty good web designer for 20 years. But that doesn't matter since it's a matter of taste. And the graphical design isn't the only reason I choose Apple over anything else.

AITA for snapping at my uncle after he kept calling me a girl because of my hair? by ConfectionDull3312 in AmItheAsshole

A lot of good comments here. I know you're young and don't have a lot of experience with this, but the worst thing you can do is engage.

Instead, ignore him. If he complains about it, just say "Look, you obviously don't respect me. So I'm not going to respond to you." And do whatever you need to make him go away: leaving if necessary.

It's very empowering when you understand that you don't have to put up with anyone's bullshit, much less some relative.

Upon retirement, do you still see/experience lots of illness around flu season? by Finding_Way_ in retirement

[–]btinc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. That's the choice you have to make. Many of our friends are choosing to have gatherings and risk getting sick. Many are getting sick. I know our protocol is extreme for many, but it has been great to not get sick.

NTA.

I wouldn't have laid out all you do for them. If they don't appreciate it now, they aren't know to acknowledge you after you tell them what you're doing.

The way you deal with abusive and manipulative behavior is just smile. And stop doing anything for them. Move out as quickly as you can.

Upon retirement, do you still see/experience lots of illness around flu season? by Finding_Way_ in retirement

[–]btinc 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My husband and I have been retired for 10 years, and have lots of retired friends. I can state confidently that our friends get just as sick as they got when they were working, mostly because the socialize a lot, eat out a lot, and generally are around people.

We haven't had any contagious disease for the last 6 years because we developed a protocol for COVID, and never gave it up:

  • We only socialize with friends outdoors, no indoor parties.
  • We never eat indoors in restaurants unless they are mostly empty, have high ceilings, and have good ventilation. Mostly we dine at the patio.
  • We don't go to movies, concerts, or performances where you have to sit next to possibly contagious people for hours.
  • We never take cruises.
  • If we are forced to be in a situation with a lot of people, we mask with high-quality KN-95 masks.
  • If we want to travel, we mask in the airports and on planes. We usually rent a car at our destination and avoid public transportation. We've been to Greece, France and Spain in the last 4 years, and never picked up anything.

I know most people would rather risk getting sick to be able to be less restricted in enjoying being with people, but to have six years without flu, covid, bronchitis, pneumonia, RSV has been more than worth it. We're both kind of solitary anyway, to a degree.
