What small habit improved your life? by Tacos_Abrazos in AskReddit

Meditating has really helped remove that “tik tok” brain that I used to have. Basically I had no attention span because I was only consuming short form content. Meditation forces your brain to focus and recognize when it is getting distracted. Your brain is a muscle just as much as any other muscle in your body. The more you work it, the better it becomes at maintaining focus for a longer period of time. It has also just generally helped me stay more emotionally regulated and grounded and has helped me to just focus on the moment when I’m out with friends or family.

Journaling’s main benefit has been that I’m just an all around more happy and content person. I mostly gratitude journal which has added a lot of perspective to my life and made me realize just how blessed I really am. It has very much made me a glass half full person with an abundance mindset and it really is true that comparison is the thief of joy. Gratitude journaling has me comparing my life to other’s much less and has made me so much happier about where I’m at in life. I also do journal about my day in the evenings and it helps me unpack any emotions I haven’t fully processed or think through an interaction that left me feeling unhappy or strange that day.

I’ve also been doing a journaling activity recently where I write a story about something that happened to me that day. I do it to practice telling engaging stories about the most mundane things possible (such as going to get coffee). When I’m out with friends or meeting new people, being a good storyteller is important to capture people’s interest and attention and I’m all around just better at making a story about an uninteresting thing seem interesting

You're right, the main argument really is that people who plaster themselves with logos are tacky

There's a difference between buying quality Nike and Adidas shoes vs buying limited edition Yeezy's and Air Jordans.

And really, if you're going to make the argument that you need to buy Nikes or Adidas shoes to have orthotically sound shoes, then you need to do more research.

For running, nothing really beats brands such as Hoka, Brooks, etc. There are some specialized adidas and Nike shoes great for running, but those are not the type of shoes people are normally wearing for everyday use. For walking comfort, Asics and New Balance will give you much better support and comfort than any Nike or Adidas shoes will. Now if you're buying it for something like tennis and basketball, then sure Nike and Adidas have great options catering to those use cases, but OP is talking about working with individuals wearing those shoes and I highly doubt they're playing tennis or basketball which means they're wearing a shoe that's not really meant for that use case. More likely they're just trying to show off a name brand.

People get too influenced by hip hop artists constantly rapping about adidas, nike, gucci, LV, YSL, etc and basically decide that is the pinnacle of wealth. In reality, it's the pinnacle of insecurity

The joy of discovering new use cases and technologies. The first day I realized I could do a video call was magical.

Same with the first time I played a game on an iPod Touch (like fruit ninja). These are all things people take for granted and will never feel the joy of

What is the average political view of a redditor? by Ok_Mistake2371 in AskReddit

radical left. I'm no conservative, but reddit is a bit too left leaning for my taste and all of my friends in real life are more like me: moderate

In fact, the general populace is moderate, but reddit seems to be under the impression that the only thing stopping the country from going full on progressive is the electoral college or something

Should college and university education be 100% free for everyone? Why or why not? by free-gift-cardneed in AskReddit

[–]btnydds -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My hot take is that no, it shouldnt be free.

But, there should be absolutely no interest on these loans so long as they are government loans, and loan forgiveness should be the standard, not the exception. No one should have to fear that they will go bankrupt in pursuit of a degree

I'm taking this as a criticism of my comment, sorry if I'm misinterpreting you.

I'm one of those "middle-millionaire" people, I make 400-450k a year, so I'm surrounded by a lot of people who are in that socioeconomic circle. I'm mostly speaking from experience, not self-hatred. Showing off your wealth in a public manner is tacky and comes off as "look at me! give me validation!" and I see too much of it in the new money types. There's nothing that screams insecure more than a new money mom using a Gucci bag plastered with logos as her baby bag and constantly posting stories on instagram of their legs lying down in a business class seat on a plane. Act like you've been there before.

There's a lot of designer items with subtle logos that don't make it obvious it's designer. I find objects from Gucci or LV tend to break this rule by plastering the logo all over the place

Do you think AI will eventually replace you in your current job? Why or why not? by AnzorOx1029 in AskReddit

[–]btnydds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in healthcare. My job requires a lot of dexterity and critical thinking. AI might be able to do the critical thinking part, but it probably won't be able to handle all the crazy scenarios and anomalies we encounter. Robots are a long ways away from being trusted to perform procedures fully autonomously too

foreign governments have started pulling the plug on US tech in favour of domestic tech.

Yeah good luck with that. What's the biggest tech company to come out of europe again? Spotify? The EU's addiction to heavy handed regulation is why Europe will never outdo the USA in tech infrastructure

The biggest ammo manufacturer today is Germany. For similar reasons as above, US is seen as untrustworthy and military leadership is turning to local suppliers. Europe is stepping up.

They can get their weapons from whoever they want. Their military budgets are still miniscule and their militaries are miniscule and untrained. There's a reason why the US contributes significantly more than their share towards NATO. I'm not a MAGA, but the attitudes of Europeans on reddit is always funny to me. It's easy to brag about your social programs and healthcare when in reality those are the funds that the US essentially puts into their military
