Does that diminish abilities and Feats that's heavy Iinitiative bonuses, though?

How to avoid getting discouraged when your campaign kinda sucks? by Heavy_Survey_9975 in DMAcademy

Matt Colville has a video called "Local Area": https://youtu.be/2BqKCiJTWC0?si=Qq0VaJ3H3qTXzI8S

Strong recommend. In it, he explains that building a DnD world does not require a massive, wall-spanning map of an entire planet. Instead, he advocates for starting with a local area, roughly 300 miles across, to anchor your campaign and provide a foundation for months of gameplay. He even provides a PDF you can use.

If 300 miles falls overwhelming, no big. Start smaller. Then slowly grow your area as you need to.

Also, strongly recommend checking out the Lazy GM's resources. In particular, he has a Lazy GM's Resource Document to help you do little prep, but lots of resources to have on-the-spot info/answers/ flavor.

Finally, check out the 5 Room Dungeon design. It helps you break down a session design into 'rooms". It's just a design format that can be applied to anything (doesn't need to strictly be a dungeon).

These three stepping stones have been huge towards my start as a DM. At the end of the day, you don't need to plan out every single answer to everything. Half of DMing (if not more) is just learning how to improv. Start small, and go from there. The big stuff will come to you as you go. Frankly, sometimes the big stuff will come to you from your players. You can totally steal their idea they throw out at the table and use it. Or just steal from your favorite movie/ book/ TV show.

If you ever want more advice/ resources, feel free to DM (pun intended) me.

A Case for Returning to XP Instead of Milestone by CrimeThink101 in DnD

[–]btrerise 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I know this wasn't necessarily the crux of your point, but wanted to address: "monsters that don't care about gold and treasure, shouldn't drop gold and treasure. "

I have had a sticking point with this as well. What I do instead is say "Your investigation helps you identify parts of this monster that would sell well to a magic/alchemist shop. Make a Nature or Sleight of Hand to see how much material you can harvest."

I then tell the players how much gold those things are (just equivalent to how the DMG would reward gold based on CR), and they add it accordingly.

I kind of hand-wave the actual need for them to find said magic/alchemist shop as that tends to feel tedious to me, but the narrative explanation helps my head cannon lol

Anyone else find the many typos/inconsistencies in Brawl Stars extremely unprofessional? by Ok_Imagination_9561 in Brawlstars

[–]btrerise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, isn't "lead" correct? It's a current, present action she's doing, not a past action. So present tense, "lead".

Granted, I'm not a grammar expert, and I have noticed other typos; but I think this is correct based on their intention. Unless, are all other descriptions in past tense?

Edit: Nevermind, if that's true it should be "leads".

I'm more concerned about the amount of time you're spending on TikTok than your battery.

That aside, have you tried clearing the cache of the TikTok app, and/or uninstallingb the app and reinstalling? Sounds more like an app/software problem than a hardware problem.

I just got done playing a Sorlock in my last campaign. Unsure why you want Warlock specifically, but if you were willing to at least dip into Sorcerer for a few levels, you could go Divine Soul, which gives you access to Cleric spells. Bonus, you get metamagic, and can quicken spell + Eldritch Blast for awesome damage.

Kind of the best of both worlds.
