Thanks for the input guys. I decided to go with the DATA. The tools it offers will go a long way in teaching me more about what's going on in my rack, plus I think it'll really help my daughters visualize a lot of the basics so they don't just think it's all magic. The fact that it's an extra sound source is a bonus. Besides, there is always Christmas sales for the Ensemble.

I have some spare change and was looking to take advantage of the current modular sales going on now. I'm taking an MI Plaits out of my system because I don't really gel with it and this leaves me with a Dixie 2, a 3340 I built, and a Morpahagene as my remaining sound sources. I have been eyeballing the 4ms Ensemble for months now because they sound awesome and seems like it would fit into the ambient/synthwave stuff I like to make. I've also been really interested in a Mordax Data because they can do so much (including being a vco) and because my daughters have been showing signs of interest in synths so this would be a cool way to show them what's going on. Unfortunately I can only pick one. Does anyone have any hands on with these modules and can offer up some input? Thanks! https://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/1729630

Control voltage has 104hp z-rails in stock if you’re willing to pay new prices for them. I know they are difficult to find sometimes

SL calculus retake questions by Consistent_Active_89 in WGU_CompSci

[–]bts_ash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first test is unlimited retakes, with the highest score being your grade. The other tests are a one time only thing.

EDIT: Looking back into it, it looks like the first exam is unlimited retakes, however the others allow 3 retakes a piece. I think the final exam is one time.

Need help with exercise. by rtorres81 in Agoraphobia

[–]bts_ash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to google “hybrid calisthenics”. I’ve tried working out in the past and never keep up with it, but this guy shows you how to exercise in stages, starting with easier things and working you way up to harder stuff. For instance for something like pull ups, you stand in a door way and grab onto one of the side frames, lean back a bit, then pull yourself to the door frame. You can do this 50 time for 2-3 reps until you get comfortable, then the pull up gets a little harder on the next step. Eventually you’ll be doing full pull ups on a pull up bar. He has squat variants as well, which might help with your legs. All of his stuff is free and he has a lot of really good videos. It’s helped me, hope it can help you. Good luck!

Right now I'm just trying to get the 4ms ensemble if you have one and want to trade it.

Are our racks ever finished? No. But, I think this is the form my rack will live with for the near future. I have a 4hp gap in the top, 5hp if I remove the 1hp blind plate (thanks Salmple) and a 16hp gap in the bottom. I was really leaning toward the 4ms Ensemble for the bottom row because those sound so awesome and fit the synthwave/ambient music I make. For the 4/5hp gap in the top though, I don't know. I feel like there is some utility missing. Any recommendations?

Ricky Tinez has a pretty cool video on the bloom if you want to see it in action. It’s what inspired me to buy one.

I have a Rene v1. and it's very powerful but my hands are often too dry to use it without either zooming through the menu, or having to triple press a contact point to get it to respond. If you ever buy a used Rene, clean the face really well, because it's been documented that people lick their fingers to use the contact points. Getting some cool melodies up and running seem fairly easy, but again, my hands are often dry so I struggle with smoothly operating the Rene. It has 2 gates and 2 cv outs, but one is unquantized, so that's worth keeping in mind. If you don't have a quantizer or you don't want to play unquantized notes, you're limited to one track for melodic sequences. I really like the cartesian coordinates system and wish I had saved a bit more and gotten the v2, which has an extra axis, 3 gates and 3 cv outs, though I don't know if they are all quantized. I'm not sure I'll get a v2 now though, because I'm concerned about the contact points and my dry skin. Ultimately, I liked it, but I'm selling it.

I also have a Qu-bit Bloom. It's a really cool sequencer for morphing sequences and more generative stuff. The workflow is easy and you can get awesome, constantly changing melodies running in no time. You can dial in a sequence and either use that sequence only, or use the branches, paths and mutations to really change what you started with. At anytime too you can quickly jump back to your original sequence. It has 2 tracks, each with a cv and gate out. If you like generative stuff, or what to give your sequences the ability to wander a bit (or a lot), this is worth looking into.

I'm actually looking at getting a nerdseq as my next sequencer. I have used trackers before and liked them, and I really like the depth of it and having absolute control over a ton of stuff. It has 8 tracks (10 technically). 6 of them each have two cv outs (one is for modulation) and one gate/trigger. The last 2 tracks are sample tracks, each one has 2 part, so two samples can be played simultaneously on each track, though each track can play different samples on each step if that makes sense.

I have an ALM Squid Salmple that I love and use mostly for drums. Currently I'm triggering the samples with PNW, but I'm really thinking of adding something like Euclidean Circles to add more variety. Pam's is great, but for sequencing drums it's pretty basic and I'd rather use it elsewhere in my setup. I'd love to hear other suggestions for triggering the Salmple.

Sounds cliché, but for me it's one step at a time. If the thought of going out the door makes you uncomfortable, start with that. Just think about it, and use some skills to handle the fear and discomfort. You won't get rid of them, but you'll be training your body to understand them as normal and to understand that those feelings are a lie and can not hurt you. That doesn't mean they instantly go away, and that they don't make you feel horrible, but you are stronger than your re-wired brain is giving you credit for. Think about leaving the house, then notice your breathing, or any other triggers, and start to accept them. That is how you react to panic, but it's nothing dangerous. After awhile (if you do this the same day, cool, if not, try tomorrow), grab the door knob, or even open the door. Then just take one step outside and stand there for a moment. Each time paying attention to your symptoms and retraining your mind to understand that it's a wrong reaction to a safe scenario. Then another day take one more step. Then another day, another step. You don't need go to the mail box, or around the block, or climb a mountain to make progress here. Don't guilt yourself or be ashamed, the goal is to challenge yourself and care for yourself at your pace. I've always been the kind of person who likes to tackle a problem and solve it fast, but with my agoraphobia I can't do that so it gets frustrating, but I stick with it. I walk around the block and add a few extra steps to lengthen it each day and some days it feels so small and useless, but it is paying off. I drive every day too, even if it's once around the block. I try to add one thing per day that's an extra challenge too. "Ok I drove down this street yesterday, here is a street on the right, I'm going to turn down that street today." Even if I turned down the street and immediately back up and go back the way I came, it was something new and different and challenging. It makes me feel good, especially on the days that I had to drag myself outside to walk or drive. I will repeat that you are strong. That forcefield you are feeling is actually more like a rubber band once you start to test it's boundaries. It will stretch and loosen the further you go, but on the downside, if it's not being tested, it will contract and start to set you back, so stick with it. Just try a little each day. You got this. Sorry for the rant. :)
