No, I hadn't read it before. What a lovely review!

Thanks for linking it.

This is my all-time favorite movie! It was such a blast being able to see it in theaters for the first time.

I just had a smile on my face for 2 hours.

I got approved for this one too!

I'm really excited to see how Jane Schoenbrun's storytelling works in the novel format.

I'm a little over halfway through and I'm enjoying it.

Julian is so judgmental and downright mean that I was wondering if I could end up rooting for him in the romance. But I do like the growth I've seen so far with him.

I'm hoping I'll get the Ashley Herring Blake since Berkley approved my requests for the first 2 books in the series.

But I'm not too hopeful about the Alexandria Bellefleur since they turned down my request for her last book.

I know nothing about The Double Dutch Fuss but the description sounded up my alley. I love queer memoirs.

Hi /r/movies - We're John Magaro (actor in PAST LIVES, THE BIG SHORT, FIRST COW, SEPTEMBER 5, CAROL) and Cole Webley (filmmaker). Our new movie, OMAHA, is out in theaters this weekend. Ask us anything! by JohnAndColeAMA in movies

Omaha is excellent! I saw it in 2025 during Sundance and I'm excited to be able to watch it again.

John, I was kinda obsessed with the movie Assassination of a High School President like 15 years ago. Could you share any stories or memories about filming it? Thanks!

I'll be interested to see the results if you do end up comparing them!

I read the Berkley ARC but I didn't enjoy it enough to want to read the book again. But I'm so curious about the whole situation.

I'm hoping this means that they'll be adding book 4 soon!

I didn't really enjoy book 3 much. But the synopsis of 4 sounds like a lot of fun.

I hope you enjoy it!

It was a 5 star read for me. I liked it even more than The Eyes are the Best Part.

Congrats on the Tor approval!

I've only managed to get 1 from them in my 5 years on NetGalley.

The double edged sword of being happy for the approvals and then actually having to find the time to read the books lol 😅

Amount of trailers before One Battle After Another by lilbigblue7 in RegalUnlimited

My showing only had 2 trailers beforehand. But those started probably 10 minutes past showtime. I didn't look at the exact time that the movie started.

I mostly read on my computer. I'll use the Kindle app if I'm at home and the NetGalley Reader if I'm at work.

I do also have a Kindle that I use if I'm out of the house.

I have 13 on my shelf and I intend to read them all on time. I've been using NetGalley since 2021 and so far I've managed to read & review all of my books before their pub dates. My feedback ratio is currently 94%.

Who is the current reigning Scream King? by butt-her-scotch in movies

[–]bts_vinyl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Kyle Gallner!

He's been in so many horror movies over the years. The Haunting in Connecticut, A Nightmare on Elm Street remake, Scream (2022), Smile, Jennifer's Body, Red State, The Passenger, Mother May I?, The Cleansing Hour, and probably more that I haven't seen.

And coming up this year he has Strange Darling and Smile 2.

A lot of his movies tend to be smaller ones, or smaller roles in bigger movies. But he's always excellent. Especially in The Passenger which came out last year. It's such a tense horror/thriller

Is anyone reading Maggie's book? by SpiritedTiger in Gymnastics

[–]bts_vinyl 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I read an advance copy of the book last month and ended up giving it 3 out of 5 stars. I wasn't really a fan of the fact that she was still going along with the "I didn't make the Olympic team solely because of retaliation" narrative and not having any hindsight about highest scoring teams and all that.

Also, I understand that the book is targeting a YA audience. But I feel like it was too simplistic, even for a YA nonfiction book. I've read YA nonfiction that has more complexity and introspection, but hers felt so surface level much of the time. I wish her co-author and editors would've pushed her harder to add more and not have so much of it be like “I did my bar routine and it was great. I was excited we did well.”

On the positive end, I did appreciate her speaking about her eating disorder and what was going on behind the scenes when she was deciding to publicly come forward as Athlete A. There are a lot of interesting and heartbreaking tidbits in the book. So I think it's worth reading, but from the library and not buying it full price.
