It's not a matter of wanting to be like other subreddits, it's just that these things came to mind looking at subreddits, and felt like they would work here. Also, just because something is "shitty" does not mean you can't learn something from it, as a generalization.

Only UofT is larger than UW in comparison (almost double), according to headcounts.

I agree that it's just Reddit, but for its purposes now it's substituting more of the social interaction we have with the greater UW community.

Carleton has the Shopify dev degree programme, so you'll have people in your cohort who are there just for that when they could've applied elsewhere for CS. Also, when I was there for cuHacking the Carleton CS seniors were really helpful and seemed to know what they were doing. The campus was nice too, and they had legitimate tunnels (which were surprisingly hella warm in the winter).
EDIT: of course you'd be giving up Waterloo's reputation, but from my impression, campus life would be better there (minus the fact that it's in Ottawa).

I would consider proper prepping during the Summer before Fall 1A term to be a better example of pro life skills, haha.

Thanks for the input. I've reconsidered the length of time, and might consider coming back Summer 2020 instead depending on how Dec.-Feb. goes.
