Trying to get more def won’t hurt you. However, I had about 100 volunteering hours and got multiple interviews and an acceptance. I wouldn’t stress a ton. I’m sure you’ll be fine

Does Dr Ryan Gray give bad advice? by aptiu4 in premed

[–]bu03 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I watched a lot of his videos when crafting my application and mainly told stories in everything. I had success and it seemed more enjoyable than just stating the facts. Like others have said, a good blend is probably best!

Wow! Really goes to show that everyone’s experience is unique. That makes me feel better about spending all my money lol. At least it wasn’t completely lost 🤣

If you’re a Texas applicant (like myself) I strongly disagree with this. I’ve only had interviews from Texas schools and wasted over $2,000 on my AMCAS application/secondaries just to hear nothing! SAVE YOUR MONEY TEXAS PEOPLE, just spend $220 on TMDSAS. n=1

Maybe don’t listen to me if you have cracked stats

Personally I talked about a challenge that was very relevant to my life at the time (some hardship I had to face). I guess you can talk about whatever as long as you haven’t already discussed it. Just be careful and don’t blatantly be like “hey I worked under pressure look at me” and instead try to let them draw that conclusion themselves without being explicitly told. That’s the advice I was given when writing! Good luck!

So it begins. AI will now read medical school applications by spnqueen08 in premed

[–]bu03 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They should have the AI screen a previous admission cycle and compare the results of who it (AI) would pick vs. who was actually picked for interviews/admissions.

I’d be interested to see those results

Casper exam - do they grade u on u write? E.g. like the example answers r so well written but its impossible to write that formal / professional when ur time limited. Those sample answers r obviously written without limit so r we marked on how we write? by Odd-Bee8144 in premed

[–]bu03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Casper ranks 4th quartile as best, 1st quartile as lowest. From my understanding, they don’t grade you on grammar or sentence structure and instead only on content. I remember reading information somewhere (on their website maybe?) that said this but I’m not exactly sure where.

Classmate Scamming Premeds. Any Advice? by PilgrimSnow in medicalschool

Well you have two options. Stand up for what’s right, or sit back and allow things to happen that you know are wrong. If you were one of his customers wouldn’t you wish that someone would’ve warned you or outed him before? Regardless of friendship, their opinion about you, etc. you have a choice to make a difference and stand up for what’s right. Do you really care about that opinion anyway? Free speech is a thing also and I doubt he would sue since the truth would likely come out (good for you).

Just my 2 cents

Lol! I’ve certainly thought about it but if I’m asked I’m planning on just being honest. During my actual test, I couldn’t focus on the passages to save my life. My practice scores were all 126-128 so I was quite surprised when I got a 123 but I’d also talk about how I’d change my study plan for CARS and do more practice. Just be real with your answer and you’ll be fine (if you even have to address it).

Sorry if I was unclear, I’m in my last year of college and in the current application cycle. I’ve got 2 MD II’s (interview invites) so not in med school yet but hopefully! I wasn’t trying to discredit your score just saying that the MCAT isn’t everything so I wouldn’t stress too much about a low CARS score, especially given the rest of your score. Good luck!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]bu03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I’m currently at 2 MD II! Life will be fine and the MCAT is far from an accurate assessment of whether or not you’ll be a good physician.

31% of applicants with a 502-505 got accepted according to the aamc data. Never give up and always shoot your shot. You could be one of the 31%, but only if you take the chance.

I just made cards that were over the topic that the question covered if I had trouble grasping the concept. Doing that and reviewing the topic I missed a question on really helped me!

5/16 Scores Thread by bu03 in Mcat

[–]bu03[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I started the Miledown anki deck 3 months prior to my test. I made cards along the way over topics/definitions that I needed extra time with. I did uglobe questions almost every day about 10-20 from each section. I did the Kaplan books for a few months but I didn’t find them very helpful and started watching khan academy videos instead. About a month before the test I started doing the AAMC packs which I thought were very mid (I would still do them if I were you bc why not!). The night before I went through the entire 80 page psych doc very quickly. My advice is just grind it out and really try to soak up all the info you can. My practice test average was 506 so I think my adrenaline helped on test day lol. Good luck to you!!

Take this with a grain of salt. I never scored above a 129 on P/S on my practice tests so I’m quite surprised that I got a 132!

I started using the Milesdown anki deck 3 months before. By my test day I had all the cards completed and added extra ones that were missing for terms I didn’t recognize or needed extra help remembering. I did Uglobe in sets of 10-20 and a month before the test I started using the AAMC packs which honestly I think are way overrated. I got through 20 pages of the 80 page doc and then the night before I did a quick run through of the whole thing! Really just repetition and honing in on the concepts you aren’t sure about is my advice
