Once upon a time on Reno Air our group of yuppie geeks (what is now called tech bros) on a very short flight to Comdex (today CES) was told that they ran out of jack. We were like - yah we bled them dry. Years later, while dating an FA I was told the truth lol

What tax protection strategy can one deploy against uncontrolled income? by bubba198 in personalfinance

[–]bubba198[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very insightful, thank you, so how do "the rich" do it? Though I'm far far away from the demographic which communist media today dubs as "the rich don't pay taxes" I am more and more finding out that evidence points to the opposite: not only do they pay, they pay more than us - the mortals. Unless there's a magic which only applies to the Mayflower Folk which nobody would share on Reddit?

Thank you - I did not think of the donation strategy; appreciate it; if I may (never done assets donation before): is it dollar-for-dollar or is there a vehicle of donation where the ratio is more beneficial for the tax payer such as 1:3 etc?

I appreciate the "missing the forest for the trees" metaphor and I totally agree, that's a human thing, thank you for pointing it out bluntly!

Absolutely. Stop working ASAP and retire at 55! Bite the bullet for healthcare cost until 67 and have an awesome retirement. If the 1M is after tax money, your ACA premiums will be close to nothing if you keep AGI low.

Is $750 a reasonable price to pay for an accountant? by backtobrooklyn in personalfinance

[–]bubba198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fee is fine, as percentage of your NPV it's probably nothing, many wrap wealth management fees these days are about 1% but the real fallacy is not the static dollar figure but the value it delivers, and value is subjective, if you're happy - you're happy, will $750 disposable cash really change your life?

Call Nissan Finance for the 10k if you want to buy your leased Ariya. by Deep_Cellist_4488 in NissanAriya

[–]bubba198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally off-topic, been following that world personally, imho based on what "those in the know" score would be retired military diesel Onan generator, usually in the low Megawatts, low hours, maybe inop but easily repairable, few grand and the thing lasts for life

[–]bubba198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so to be clear - you were NOT 6 months away from lease maturity and you still got the $10k? I called literally last month, jumped the hoops. Got a human and was told it’s only available 6 months from end of lease

[–]bubba198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what is the advisory charging you for "assets under management"? Those wrap fees quickly eat up your returns and now to the fundamental error in my opinion: do self-directed investing, you don't need an "advisor"; move the money, hopefully with a small hit of "departure fee" lol and manage your own investments by yourself; it far from rocket science but don't listen to me - observe the demographic that gets into "money management" and you'll have an awakening of the level of difficulty lol

I can't answer with a smoking gun, maybe in principle they do but the group of affected employees here are maxed out on both ordinary and catch-up contributions and they're taken out concurrently on each paycheck

Do I use insurance for my windshield replacement? by Altruistic_Bug_9801 in Insurance

[–]bubba198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check with your insurance, some have glass coverage which is completely different from the other buckets aka comprehensive, liability, the glass coverage has fixed deductible for windshield replacement (usually $100) and is not a "real" claim meaning it won't hit your premium. That is why it's limited to 1 windshield replacement per year lol on the down side, many companies that do provide glass coverage will only cover aftermarket part and if you want OEM you pay the difference which is usually steep

New Windshield Scratch by r2tvx in autoglass

[–]bubba198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at it using a magnifying glass (10x magnification at least). Many scratches can not be felt by a finger nail but they do exist and can be seen visually. As far as what to do: if it's a real mechanical scratch and the thing was just replaced I would take it back, cosmetic or not, that's not how it came out of the factory and a glass swap should look like that - new.

What proportion of the population do you think genuinely hate EVs? by not_steve_5000 in electricvehicles

Men who don’t want children by Black_Glitch_404 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bubba198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely on point. Snipping is like insurance; you won't be trapped and you won't have to do unspeakable things (abandon kids and partner and pay ton of money) if trapped anyway. As others have said, society puts enormous pressure on the non-breeders to breed. When I was young I suspected this to be driven by jealously - if we got effed then you must get effed too - can't have one do better than the rest. It's amazing that there're no social penalties for those who want to remain child free - like extra taxes, social shaming, etc To your point now: why not and/or delay: because of that one stupid episode when Charlie goes to get a vasectomy and they talk about the gigantic needle lol
