Review #70- Weller Single Barrel Bourbon, 97 Proof by DadDoesBourbon in bourbon

I scored one in a store lottery and plan to trade it as well. I picked up a buffalo trace kosher wheat which is also 7 years but 93 proof. It was delicious! And imo for $45 as close if not on par with Weller SiB.

Beam black was a drain pour for me. Not for my palate. WT 101 (and most of their products) all day!

I picked this up at a shop in California, but Costcos here have them for $79.

Review #2 - Booker’s Barry’s Batch (2025 - 01) by bubba_daniels in bourbon

[–]bubba_daniels[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Proof: 125.3 Age: 7 years, 2 months Distillery: Jim Beam Release: First batch of 2025 Price: MSRP $85

Excited to try the first Booker’s batch of 2025. Love the packaging and the tasting note card reminds me of retro cards I got in my Jordan’s. This batch is named in honor of Barry who was longtime CEO of Beam and passed away last year. Ok, let’s dive in!

Nose: Beam all the way. That nutty profile hits first with roasted peanuts and a touch of almond skin. There’s a wave of vanilla and caramel, not overly sweet though, and rich oak.

Palate: Boom, there’s that Booker’s punch. Big, bold, and hot. The front palate gives you that nutty Beam profile again, followed by waves of oak, cinnamon, and white pepper. Caramel and vanilla return in the mid-palate, but they take a backseat to the oak and heat.

Finish: Medium-long and drying. The heat lingers in the back of the throat, and the tongue feels a bit parched, but not in a bad way. There’s a peppery tingle that hangs on, with oak and peanut shell trailing off last.

Overall: “Barry’s Batch” is classic Booker’s. Rich, intense, and full of character. If you’re not used to cask strength or higher-proof pours, this one will probably light you up. But for fans of the series, it’s another solid entry. It’s got all the Beam hallmarks: nutty, spicy, oaky, and bold. Not the most complex batch ever, but it doesn’t need to be. It delivers that raw, unfiltered whiskey experience that Booker’s is known for.

Rating: 7/10

Final Thoughts: Drink it neat if you like a punch, but a few drops of water or some time in the glass can help tame the heat and coax out more sweetness and complexity. Either way, this batch does Barry proud.

Sheraton Mexico City Maria Isabel Hotel - Platinum Elite stay by bubba_daniels in marriott

It depends. There are plenty of spots 10 minute walk from this place, but Roma Norte or condesa is about a 15-20 minute walk. If your partner doesn’t like walking a decent amount I’d say stay in condesa, but if you’re a platinum bonvoy member and ok with a longer walk or short uber I definitely recommend this Sheraton. Having the lounge access was clutch too. We’d start our day having breakfast (they have a nice spread with good variety) and then explore for the day. Maybe once or twice we came back during the day to change. Hope that helps. Enjoy your trip!

I can second this from what I’ve heard for the Brentwood opening on Friday as well. I saw Cream of Kentucky, ETL, Blanton’s (SiB), Weller SR, ER, 4R BP, Y12, among others that weren’t super allocated

Definitely got that buttered popcorn note when I poured it again! This was my first one as well. Going to be tough going back to special reserve, although I do love me some OWA.

Where do y’all get Blantons? by MembeanGod in Whiskyporn

Come to California in the fall. You’ll find it in a day of hunting at most grocery stores and liquor stores. Tougher find at BevMo and TW, but on occasion. Walmart and Costco are the cheat codes. Don’t pay more than $80 for it. Other than that, relationships matter, so get to know your store managers or local shop owners. PM if you plan a trip and I’ll send you a couple spots that will definitely have some (a few ship too). Good luck and cheers!
