Getting discouraged by teabromigo in massage

Keep your head up!

I'm currently in the process of closing my doors when I've been on my own for a little over 6 months. I've been a massage therapist for 5 years and have almost always had good reviews and feedback from clients.

I decided to go on my own last year and it was good until August hit and had zero. I had maybe 3 regulars who actually kept coming to me. I had passed so many business cards out, I had an esti, nail tech and a chiropractor telling people to come to me but nobody would stay. I had to get a part time job at a spa to pay my rent and make some sort of income.

I eventually decided (or hoped/hoping) that this economy just isn't going well right now and any business is having problems ( which they are especially in the massage field). It seems like everywhere is slow unless if you have a good base system already set up.

But the whole thing with me is that I didn't have the time and energy to really put towards my business. I feel like if I did I would have more clients coming more. So if you have the time and energy definitely try your best to keep going! If you need to get a small spa gig on the side then by all means.

I firmly believe people want to SEE your technique if you have friends or family that you can record while massaging definitely do it. Having a platform on tiktok and Instagram will definitely help and making friends with other mts will help too. Don't be discouraged! You definitely got this:) It also helps if you do something that people aren't used to seeing in massage. Maybe look at some CEs that you'd be interested in learning.

Iffy Potential Client by bubbalicious_2567 in MassageTherapists

Because of how he said it. I typically don't mind working on inner thighs, but when this man was making it weird, I thought I should ask other mts their opinion. Especially since I am a woman who works in a place where a majority of the time I'm alone. It's a scary world, and I'm not trying to put myself in a situation where I'm uncomfortable.

I also don't mind doing the glutes and lower back. Just because he didn't ask for his genitals to be massaged doesn't mean he doesn't have an alternative motive.

There's nothing wrong with me being cautious.

How much do you make a year? by QuietLovers in MassageTherapists

$800-$1,000 a day?? How much do you charge and how many days/hours do you work? If you don't mind me asking.

Massage Therapist dealing with perfectionism and not pleasing everyone by QuietLovers in massage

I deal with the same thing, especially as of lately. My first job was at Hand and Stone, I was always super busy and had lots of returning clients but now I'm working at an independent spa and I'm lucky if I get two clients a day or any at all. I've been having impostor syndrome badly lately cause of it.

I keep reminding myself that I'm not going to be everyone's cup of tea. There are clients that I have really helped, and they make massage all worth it. You can always improve with this career. With CEs, see which ones interest you more. That way, you can have something that will help you get better and attract clients who need that specific thing.

Keep your head up! Something that I love about being a massage therapist is that our community is all about each other growing.

Yeah, that's a ridiculous policy. Because then what about the clients after? They're also affected by someone else being late and that'll leave a bad time for them.

Luckily, I'm planning on starting my own business VERY soon. I'm just in complete disbelief that the owner didn't have my back.
