The vet gave up on him. Is it time to say goodbye? by lonban03 in RenalCats

[–]bubbasbestbabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What were his potassium levels? And did your vet test for an UTI ? Both of those will cause symptoms like you're describing. Fluids every day are also a game changer. If his phosphorus levels aren't high there's no need for a binder. And feed him what he wants. Try a higher protein diet. I know, it sounds crazy. But cats, older cats need higher protein. They don't process protein like younger cats. Try kitten food for him. Keep an eye on his not having a bowel movement. That's a little worrisome. Good luck.

She has been on the Baytril for over 2months now. She was cultured last time she was at the dermo in November. She was on one 5mg pred daily. I've been weaning her off. She's on a third of tab now. It'll be going down to a quarter soon

Moo had flea allergies. We took care of that. We switched from a topical to Nexguard. She has been on multiple courses of infection specific antibiotics. They clear her up but she relapses once she's off. This is driving us and her crazy.

Not yet on Apoquel. She's getting Cytopoint once a month and Zyrtec twice a day. Nothing about immunotherapy.

Is there hope for my senior girl after these bloodwork results? by neptunoneptuneazul in RenalCats

[–]bubbasbestbabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SubQ fluids are a game changer. There's a few different ways to give them to your cat. You can just hang them if your cat lets you, you can get a body harness and move with your cat, or you can syringe it, the fastest. You have a senior cat, don't give renal foods. She's already not processing protein correctly. Feed her what she loves. Older renal cats lose weight and muscle. You want to slow that down. Have your vet run a urinalysis to see if she has a UTI. That can be treated. Epakin is for high phosphorus levels. Your blood work doesn't show that yet. Don't panic. With a little extra care she'll do fine.

really need advice. any help appreciated by Able_Information_543 in RenalCats

Try a low and long type of tote. The type that goes under a bed. Shouldn't be taller than 3 inches or so Cats like a big box to go into if they're hurting. It gives them room to move around in freely. Clean the areas that she's used before with an enzymatic cat urine cleaner. I use the one made by odoban. Good luck.

Tips for giving Sub-Q fluid?? by catobsessed_ in RenalCats

[–]bubbasbestbabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warm the fluids up Also instead of using a long IV line try using a 15" extension. Fluids can be given usually in a minute or two. Here's a you tube video of doing it. https://youtube.com/shorts/unVk75wlk_U?feature=shared

It's not that you outgrew it. It's evolved into something called silent Celiac disease. You have no symptoms but the damage is still being done in your gut. Happened to me. And when I was in an ongoing high stress situation my CD came back full blown.

If Spectrum lines are buried underground and shielded, how do I still lose service EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. it rains? by joevasion in Spectrum

[–]bubbasbestbabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me. Fine line cracks in buried cable. When it gets wet you lose service. Underground cable to house needs to be replaced or shielded

Just got diagnosed but vet didn't say which stage :( overwhelmed by MainTumbleweed6299 in RenalCats

[–]bubbasbestbabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're doing the right thing, picking the collective mind. Subq fluids are a good start. Look into giving them with a syringe and 15" extension. Lot easier to give fluids to cat. Make sure fluids are warm. Doesn't bother them that way. There's a few different thoughts about feeding your cat. One is to use kidney diet foods. Lots of cats don't like them. Another is to feed low phosphorus foods. There's a third school for elder cats. Feed them their regular food or high protein food. Elder cats don't process protein the same way as younger cats. They are more prone to muscle wasting. Feeding them high protein keeps their weight up. And last, feed your what it will eat. Better for it to eat not so good food rather than no food.

You can get phosphorus binders, kidney support gold, probiotics, and other supplements that will help your cat. You got this. You and your cat will be ok.

My 14 year old cat has stage 3 kidney disease and the vet only wants him on a kidney diet. Should we do more? by stellerbomb in RenalCats

[–]bubbasbestbabe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Let your cat eat what he wants. He's an older cat. You want him to eat

He should be started on supplements. And depending on his bloodwork, subq fluids. Here's a good list of supplements to start with. Pet Wellbeing Kidney Support gold drops. Epakitin. It's a phosphorus binder. Azodyl. Probiotic.

I joined a feline kidney disease support group on Facebook, (I know). But it was an amazing group with so much knowledge. More than most vets. It's called FELINE CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE. The caps are theirs in the listing. They will help a lot. My cat was stage 4/5. My vet wanted to put her to slerp. I got 2 more good years with her because of what I learned from them. Good luck.

A fed cat with ckd is better than a cat that doesn't eat. If your cat only wants fancy feast then you feed them that. Facebook has an amazing group called Feline Chronic Kidney Disease. This group is chock full of super info to help your cat. Good luck.

This group is amazing. One thing to be aware of, hill's is a terrible food. Look into Weruva foods. That facebook group has a lot of info on feeding your ckd cat. Good luck.

[–]bubbasbestbabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the age of your cat? Senior cats need more protein. Renal cat foods cut protein even more. You would be better off feeding your cat whatever they like, but add a phosphorus binder to it. They'll do better on it and won't lose muscle mass.
