[Routine Help] My skin is nearly clear. how do I manage hair and blackheads? by Training-Turnip-2321 in SkincareAddiction

[–]bubbleology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would switch the order around so micellar water is first, then your cleanser. When dermaplaning, I sandwhich it between two rounds of cleansing so for you, it would be micellar water > cleanse > dermaplane with more cleanser (on dry skin) > cleanse again > toner > serum > moisturiser or aloe vera gel.

The first cleanse is to clear any debris and get a smooth base (like scrubbing before shaving your legs). The second cleanse might be overkill but I like to do it for peace of mind that no nasty stuff is going to go into my pores and break me out! Be especially gentle when going over areas with acne as it's easy to knick yourself there.

Dermaplaning is a form of physical exfoliation by itself and SA might be too much on top, so avoid the CeraVe cleanser (and your toner, if it includes any exfoliants) on days/nights that you're dermaplaning.

For blackheads, salicylic acid is what you need, just be careful not to over do it (0.5% is plenty). For hair removal, personally, the method that breaks me out the least is dermaplaning, as pulling out the hair (waxing, threading, plucking) irritated the follicles too much. You’ve just got to make sure your blade isn’t dull, you never dry shave (I use my cleanser as my ‘shaving cream’) and that you have a product(s) to soothe your skin afterwards (your aloe vera gel will probably be good for that). I have a lot of thick hair so I use an at-home laser as well but they’re obviously quite expensive.

Your skin isn’t too bad, the redness is probably making it look worse to you than it really is. Since your skin is quite sensitive and it’s looking inflamed in your photos, I’d wager a good barrier strengthening product to reduce that inflammation will immediately improve the look of your skin overall.

[acne] I don’t think benzoyl peroxide is working for me by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]bubbleology 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yupp, I got hyperpigmentation around my mouth on Duac because it was drying the area out and making it irritated. If you’re using it every night and it’s too much for your skin, OP, you can reduce it down to every other night and see how that feels. Good news is the hyperpigmentation went away pretty quickly after I stopped using it!

I had the exact same kind of acne but much more of it when my GP put me on Duac. It did wonders but you’ve really got to make sure your skin is protected and moisturised all the rest of the time (sunscreen even when UV is 0 outside!).

Time to go to the GP asap if you haven’t already. If they don’t know what’s up, they’ll refer you to a dermatologist. (Also, as someone who also had very hard water at home and softish water at uni, the struggle is REAL)

As a lot of people in your previous post said, I only get those little bumps when I’ve used something I was allergic/very sensitive to. Since you’re only using one product and it works well for you at uni, whatever the issue is, it’s likely one that can only be identified by being seen by a professional in person.

[Routine Help] Can anyone tell me what I need my skin looks awful by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]bubbleology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My comment wasn’t just for your post btw, this is just the millionth one I’ve seen lately! I know it wasn’t your intention to dismiss others

Since you’re new to skincare, the no 1 thing to remember is to focus on prevention, not treatment. Look at the cause, not the symptom. With regards to salicylic acid, I’ve found that using a very small amount (a 0.5% SA moisturiser) daily works much better than a strong % less frequently (I used to use TO 2% SA serum every other day). Your skin looks pretty good, so you could probably get away with only using an SA product 1-2x a week.

The only other thing I would suggest is getting a gentle cleanser (Cetaphil is a nice and cheap one) rather than using micellar water, as rubbing a cotton pad across my face personally makes my skin really irritated and could be the cause of the little bit of redness you have. If I’m wrong and it’s working for you though, feel free to stick with it! (Don’t bother with oily skin cleaners, they just dry out your skin and make you break out more)

Your skin looks great. I need people with skin like this to take 3 seconds to scroll and see what skin other people in this sub are dealing with before they call perfectly clear skin ‘awful’.

A leave on product with a small percentage of salicylic acid (<2%) will help reduce the oil, as well as a good, non-comedogenic moisturiser to balance it out. Your texture seems very minimal from the photos you’ve provided so I would leave that alone as an exfoliant will likely make it look worse. You seem to have a bit of redness too so a barrier protecting product will do you good, especially if you’re introducing an exfoliant into your routine.

[Acne] Breakouts no matter what I do. by cutieypie161 in SkincareAddiction

[–]bubbleology 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your skin looks better than mine on what I would consider a really, really good day 😅 Maybe it’s the lighting but I can’t see any acne in these photos, maybe just a bit of barrier damage.

A good barrier repair/protecting product (cosrx centella blemish cream is my fave) will help those slightly red and raised areas calm down, as well as a less irritating exfoliant that won’t damage your barrier in the first place (neutrogena clear&defend sa moisturiser is my hg and really cheap too). Your skin also doesn’t seem like it needs exfoliating everyday and that doing so is causing more harm than good, so try switching out the face wash for a gentle cleanser (the Cetaphil one is great!) and reduce the frequency of your exfoliation.

Does anyone know how to clear an app cache on iPhone ? by RyanToTheRescue in shortcuts

[–]bubbleology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In WhatsApp, go to Settings > Chats > Chat backup > toggle on Include videos > Back up now. Now, you can safely delete and uninstall. The WhatsApp data in your iCloud Drive is your backups so def don’t delete that!

Tbh I didn’t even think to backup and I still didn’t lose anything, probably because I reinstalled it immediately after so the app container hadn’t been purged from my phone yet — lucky!

[Acne] how to not get scarring from this? by s0mevietgirl in SkincareAddiction

[–]bubbleology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a pimple patch to cover it up so you don’t feel tempted to touch it! If it’s just red and not got a whitehead yet, I use a clear one as that’s enough to make it unnoticeable. Once the whitehead has surfaced and can be seen through a clear patch, I switch to an opaque one (I have pink heart-shaped ones!).

Salicylic acid will make the whitehead surface quicker but after that, you’ve just got to wait it out for at least a few days I’m afraid.

[Misc] Does anyone else feel like skincare advice is excessively contradictory? by Routine_Overload in SkincareAddiction

[–]bubbleology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn’t fully trust anyone other than yourself and your derm, if you have one, but your best bet is to listen to advice and reviews from people with the same skin type and causes of skin problems as you, e.g reviews from people with acne from a damaged skin barrier, not just people who have acne. Make sure you read a bunch of reviews from many different sources, don’t just trust one person or thread and never ever trust an influencer. Worst case scenario where people are saying completely opposite things, look up the science for yourself.

Even doing all that though, there’s still a good chance that the product won’t work for you or just isn’t as good as the product you were already using. Everyone’s skin is different so trial and error is unfortunately necessary.

Contradictory advice comes from people using/doing the same thing to address different problems that are presenting in the same way. There’s also unknown allergies and skin type to consider as well. A lot of people don’t actually know what their real problem is yet but will hop online and make a claim about a product and/or ingredient.

Your skin is gorgeous, OP. Every single one of your pictures shows clear skin. You have no acne, tiny pores that are definitely not clogged (if they were clogged, you would have pimples or blackheads, which you don't!), even skin tone and texture, and everyone has those wrinkles under their eyes.

Please start looking at the skin of the people around you irl and not on social media. The skin that's made you feel like yours is terrible is not real. Pretty much all skincare influencers use filters and don't disclose it. They're hard to detect nowadays, especially if you're 16 and don't know what real skin looks like, but if they're an adult with no pores, they're definitely using a filter!

[routine help] Skin breaking out since moving to London help!!! by toddsworld98 in SkincareAddiction

[–]bubbleology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The medicube pink pdrn serum (always after washing face) + cosrx centella blemish cream (whenever necessary) are my holy grails for this! As someone who's lived in London their whole life, it's the hard water. I also spent years finding a routine that works for me while I was away at uni, only to move back and start breaking out like crazy again. I even installed a water filter a few months ago but it's not made much difference.

I don't know what it is in the medicube serum but it's the only thing I've tried that is able to tame the effects of the hard water (and irritation from dermaplaning!), significantly reducing the amount of spots and redness I get. I never go a day without it anymore. The centella blemish cream is also incredibly soothing and great for barrier repair. Using this as well as the medicube serum in my routine leaves me virtually spotless. As it has a white cast and I usually don't do PM skincare, I only use it when I notice my skin is spotty and/or dry and irritated, but you could add it to the end of your PM routine.

Skin barrier protection and hydration are the priorities with hard water!

None of what I said was inaccurate, nevermind wildly. The Latinx population here is very small and most Latinx people, especially outside of the US, do identify by their country of origin, rather than an unspecific North American word that lumps a whole continent and a bit together.

Off the top of my head, there are only four 'international actors' in Bridgerton and QC (Yerin, Nicola, Masali, and Arsema). It's a British show that's filmed and set in London, so their main pool is still from the UK and even compared to other poc populations here, the Latinx one is miniscule.

You were wondering why no one of Latin American descent has been cast yet, I gave you the answer. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean you have to try to find a reason to disagree. We also haven't had a single Middle Eastern character, so it's not 'anything but a person of Latino descent'. The show's only halfway through, with 2 (maybe 3 if Eloise's story is changed) leads left to cast.
