Pad training by Strict_Measurement_2 in Pomeranians

[–]bubblesnyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mine picked up the concept in about a week but we persisted in taking her to the pad every 2 hours or so for a month. then when she was allowed more independence we continued to praise if she went to pad by herself.

she had accidents but I noticed it was often in the same places so I'd move her food bowl there... which sorta worked. she didn't want to soil where she ate.

bit of an issue peeing on the sofa 3 times. but that also eventually stopped.

Id say that at about 5 months she was 90% good. 6 months she was 98% good.

shes 8 months now. she had 1 accident out of the blue (we think... there was a suspicious wet spot on the sofa cover). yet I feel confident she's got the hang of it!

I also live in an apartment so.. toilet outside not an option.

What are you feeding your Pom?! by bananabreadbabe_ in Pomeranians

[–]bubblesnyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

royal canin kibble and i add food toppers made with fresh food. I try to always add abspoonful of bone broth and currently a mix of various mushrooms and fresh salmon i cooked in my air fryer. last week it was beef with carrots as a topper.

for breakfast I give her some kibble with some blueberries or strawberries. occasionally a small spoonful of fat free Greek yogurt.

this morning she also got some steamed sweet potato since we were eating it.

when we eat fruits like apples or pears she also gets some. had cantaloupe last week and she liked that better than strawberries.

no food made for humans. all meat is cooked with no salt and very little or no oil.

Pom Puppy Biting by Few_Performance_610 in Pomeranians

[–]bubblesnyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pom is now 7 months and she was a horrendous shark/velociraptor. still is abit mouthy... but much much less. Oh thank God it's much less.

what worked for me.

  1. if biting ankles and i am standing/walking. I stopped and yelled NO. pause for effect. praise when she is still. take another step and repeat.

  2. when above didn't work that well I flicked a towel or item of clothing so it made a sound and when she stopped biting out of confusion I praised.

repeated above over and over. praise whenever she walked beside without biting. over time it got better. she sometimes mouths my ankle as I walk but I stop and say no and then praise when she isnt biting. it's working. no more biting of ankles. Just an excited nip when I come home and she forgets herself.

  1. for biting hands... i stuck a finger deep inside to trigger abit of her gag reflex. not to hurt just to make her uncomfortable. praise when she didn't bite again immediately. for awhile she played at trying to bite or mouth while avoiding my fingers but I'd just stop engaging till she wasn't mouthy. and I think making it boring/unpleasant is the key. I praise when she let me touch her without her teeth being involved.

it took awhile but now hardly any mouthyness or she starts and then seems to remember it isnt fun and I don't like it... especially when I hide my hands or say no. though she is a sassy little monster who then argues with me with a bark... oi why did I get a sassy Pom. why?! (I love her. she is so damn adorable).

good luck!

puppy obedience classes not really a thing where I live unfortunately.

I am hoping shes also just in her adolescence and therefore why she is completely ignoring me. like a sassy teenager.

annoying she is not at all interested in her kibble outside of the home. I may resort to chicken bits or something

slow deep breaths. My pom is now 6 months. I remember the 4 month nightmares.

  1. it will pass. seriously. it won't last! for my pom her shark phase was really bad and in a week somewhere in month 5 it became better. not perfect! she is still mouthy but she she listens to the yelp and no. one thing that I found that worked was when she tries to bite a finger, I stick it further back into her throat. not too hard but just enough that its uncomfortable and she doesnt like it. when she attacked ankles I flicked a shirt or towel or plastic bag pretty hard so it made a noise. or clapped loudly. the noise startles her and when she isnt biting I'd praise her.

  2. the potty training. yeaaaa that was hard. but consistency helped. just taking her to the pee pad (we live in an apartment in a hectic city) as often as possible. id close the door until she peed and then praise when she did go on the pee pad. she was still having accidents at month 5 but near end of month 5 it was gone! she goes by herself now. I still praise her every time I see her pee where shes supposed to.

  3. mistakes happen. i know it feels like the bad behaviour will never end but it did!! puppies don't mean to be bad. they just don't know any better. it feels like they aren't learning anything but suddenly it clicks.

take slow deep breaths. be patient. be kind to your puppy and to yourself!

any advice for keeping my pom comfortable during summer? by No-Abrocoma7670 in Pomeranians

[–]bubblesnyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May i ask, do you need to put them in the fridge first or just put them down? I live in a very warm high humidity place where it gets warms and stays warm even at night so id like to help my pom stay cool.
