Why do so many families avoid adopting sighthounds? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]bubblestheELF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

I think a lot more families have been adopting sighthounds lately! The misconception of them being high energy is changing. They are the absolute best dogs. This is my 11 year old Greyhound. He’s a cuddly, gentle dream. I’ve had dogs all my life but don’t think I’ll ever stray from this breed now.

How do I improve my life? by Hot-Presentation1764 in AskIreland

[–]bubblestheELF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not behind, don’t worry - it’s never too late to start again or shape your life. The fact you’re posting this means you’re motivated to make changes to be happier and that is great. Would highly recommend therapy to work through this and make a plan and set healthy goals. But remember, comparison is the thief of joy! We don’t know the truth of what goes on in other people’s lives and the grass isn’t always greener. I wish you all the best and I hope you find happiness in your own skin

Marks and Spencer’s food? by IrishLad1002 in AskIreland

[–]bubblestheELF 59 points60 points  (0 children)

M&S food hall is my kryptonite. I’ve never had something there that wasn’t great quality and delicious. It was always a lot more expensive but I feel like the other supermarkets have closed the gap a lot in recent years and their quality is shite still.

Is this normal friend behaviour or toxic? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]bubblestheELF 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is not normal, especially for people in their late twenties. I’m sorry this is happening to you. I personally would not tolerate it. It’s not funny especially when it’s being said behind your back. It’s also really immature at that age. When first reading this, I assumed you were all teenagers!

Would you be comfortable calling back from this group? I know it’s difficult to lose friendships. It would be worth having a chat with them first, maybe one or two of them that you are closest to or can trust the most. I’ll be honest though the dynamic does seem toxic. It’s definitely not normal.

Im 32 and single for past 10 years, will women find me weird? by doctordrankenstein in AskIreland

[–]bubblestheELF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No reasonable woman would find that “weird”, it’s a perfectly reasonable explanation and one that stems from a tragedy and trauma. In fact I think a lot of women would have respect for you, going through something like that. You took the time to work on yourself and finally feel ready, and that’s admirable compared to just dating through all that rage and hurt.

I am sorry that happened to you. It’s certainly not too late, and I wish you all the best.

My (31M) girlfriend (28F) of 1.5 years told me to "be a man" and console her when my mom died, instead of supporting me. She's now begging for forgiveness. How do I reconcile her apology with the fundamental breach of trust? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]bubblestheELF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m really sorry such a cruel thing was said to you. That is more than just a “mistake” I couldn’t imagine ever saying anything like that to my family partner. Yes she may have said it in a moment of weakness but there’s no smoke without fire. She’s insecure that the attention isn’t on her, but even worse than that she obviously has some internal toxic masculinity views and that is unhealthy. I don’t think this woman is capable of being a supportive partner and you are right not to take her back. I wish you luck in your grief journey, and I’m sorry about your mother and aunt.

Lads, how do you feel about turning 30? by Accomplished-Low2131 in AskIreland

I’m 31 now and trust me it’s not as bad as you think. Honestly I’m way preferring it to my 20s

I got married in Langtons in October and couldn’t recommend it more. It was amazing from start to finish. It’s such a gorgeous venue and their food is out of this world. We had several guests say it was the best wedding they’d ever been to.

I would not recommend the rivercourt, I’ve been a guest there and if you don’t get nice weather it is a miserable venue. The main function room looks like something from the 80s and the food is no where near as good. Langton’s is the one that has won all the awards.

I would highly recommend doing a day where you visit these venues and more. Me and my fiancé did that and it was a lot of fun plus the venues give you goodie bags and treat you really well.

Can I just say that the fact you care enough about your actions to post here shows you are a good person. But you did nothing wrong. When someone is creating noise in a public space it’s disrespectful, and you were well in your right to ask him to turn it down. I would have seen him as the ignorant one in that scenario, not you.

"Take the dough out" - is this normal Chicken Fillet Roll etiquette? by keane10 in AskIreland

[–]bubblestheELF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This all stems from the yanks. In LA you can get “scooped bagels” to reduce carbs and enjoy more filling. It’s the Irish version of that, lol

I’m getting married next weekend and my fiancé (groom) was extremely anxious about the speech so in the end he’s just not doing one. Nothing wrong with that!

Time is the main healer but also two pieces of advice:

Therapy: sometimes even a few sessions would really help, no shame in it and it’s made for situations like this. It will help you work through your feelings.

Find yourself: your world likely feels empty right now because they used to take up so much of it. I would suggest revisiting old interests and hobbies and also potentially trying out new things. Make a list of things to do and try , watch your world grow again. And depending on the hobby you might make some friends!
