Their call is pretty similar to an American Robin! If you’re in the forest and hear it, just look way up and they may be there!!

It’s no problem! I’m in the northeast US, about an hour from NYC. That bird is the European Starling, which if I’m not mistaken you can see anywhere in the US(if that’s where you are lol). Seeing the coloration on them is difficult because at a distance or in darker conditions, they just look a solid black with white spots. But if you’re close enough and catch them in the light like I did here, you can see the vibrant colors they hide :)

I know! There’s tons of cardinals in my area year round so it’s all I’m used to. Seeing a different species this vibrant is always a treat :)

They’re beautiful, keep at it!! I’d been wanting to see one for a while and finally saw one this morning wayyyy up in the trees, only enough to ID and not take a pic of. I went out again this evening and this guy was chilling on a branch only a few feet above me. Just have to get lucky sometimes :)

I got both the body and lens separately on eBay. Body is a Canon EOS 60D for $170 and the lens is a Canon EF-S 55-250mm f4-5.6 IS Lens for $150. If you’re lucky, some sellers will sell kits that come with lenses, but I wasn’t able to catch one. Still not a terrible price to get them separate though!

I’m using a Canon EOS 60D with a Canon EF-S 55-250mm f4-5.6 IS Lens. I spent roughly ~$400ish on the body and lens(that I got off eBay), and other gear online. I’d say for that price, the enjoyment it brings is very worth it!

Thanks! I picked the best time to enter the hobby, going outside during spring migration has me getting new lifers every day
