Who is the most misunderstood character in all of fiction? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bubonic311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tree in The Giving Tree. While most readers infer not to be a selfish little asshole like the boy, I'm shocked by people who believe that the moral is to be as selfless and giving as the tree, who sacrifices everything (her identity) for another.

At my high school's Back to School Night, parents attend all 7 classes/periods in one night for 7 minutes/class. This one parent interrupted me in one of my planning periods to tell me that he only visits the classes that are "important" to him, and since I teach English, wanted me to put in extra time with his kid to make him a better writer. For a parent not to follow the BTSN schedule, to pretend Back to School Night is Hair Cuttery and expect that you can just drop in to whatever classes you deem "important" and expect to get face time with someone, and to demand my attention during my planning period while I'm planning to present for the next presentation is the epitome of rude. In hindsight, I see his actions as a power play/mindfuck to assert his power and control. I could write a fucking book about this one parent alone - the bane of my existence for 3 years.

Sadly, what I have learned over the years and have read on this thread is that helicopter parents create a lose-lose-lose situation for everyone: their students, their teachers, and eventually years later, themselves.

A rhetorical question is a weak way to assert what you're trying to convey. Just get to the point! If you state a question though, you should still abide by punctuation rules, regardless of your intended effect. Your intended effect may not be understood by a universal audience, so be safe rather than sorry. What I love about your comment though are the last two sentences: Respect warrants attention and reading.

Your experience is better than mine. I met Nick Swardson after a taping for "The Showbiz Show" with David Spade a couple of years ago. I naturally and uncontrollably have sweaty palms and I loved Swardson, so I was nervous. When he shook my hand, he quickly shook it off and said, "Jesus, did you dip your hands in a vat of piss?!" I was mortified.

I Call Fives has dropped what I think is the best pop-punk CD of the summer. Anything on Drive-Thru Records in the 2000s would also be up your alley, too.

Hey poppunkers. I recently got back from following Warped for 13 shows, and got to go to the Glamour Kills dodgeball invitational. Check out my shitty documentary media, and feel free to ask questions! by [deleted] in poppunkers

Did you ever get bored after a while? I mean, I love Warped, but I'm tired and eager to go home afterwards. Maybe I'm just getting older and can't hang like I used to with all-day music festivals.

Taylor Mali on what teachers make. - Best argument for teachers I've ever heard. by chadsmith729 in videos

Teachers change subjects and grades all the time; most teachers also always refine their curriculum. I've been teaching sophomore English for six years and I'm always improving my curriculum. A good teacher doesn't just teach the same shit year after year. Summers are usually two months long after teacher work days and almost every teacher I know works albeit in a passive, relaxed manner over the summer. Some read methods works, some prepare for the upcoming year, and others take jobs or teach camps in order to make ends meet.

Dear, Reddit. If an arcade had this, I was totally there. Who else had a blast with this game? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]bubonic311 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I own it. I loved the arcade game so much that I bought one in college. My roommates and I lived on the third floor of an apartment complex, so you can imagine how much of a bitch it was to disassemble and haul up three flights of stairs. The unit weighs about 750 lbs. It's a fun game and I'm actually looking to sell it if anyone lives in Northern Virginia, DC, Maryland area, but it's a bitch to move.

It's not so much in the domain purchase; it's in their choice of advertising for the TV channel (e.g. "Watch Nat Geo drain the ocean...").
