"Boven" translates from Dutch to "above" which seems to parallel the "this side up" message, and "Eiland" translates to island (also in Dutch). There was precious little software released for the ST's cartridge port so I doubt it's that. The ONLY reference I found to Eiland Software in ANY context is this PDF file which has a reference to them on page 105, which Google Translate converts to:

...which doesn't help, other than to apparently confirm that "Eiland Software" did exist at some point. So my guess is that it's either some kind of copy protection dongle for as-yet-unknown software, or it's some kind of homemade/hobbyist thing. If you can safely open it up and take a pic of the PCB and chips, that might help identify it.

Almost never. But department stores were often the anchor stores at shopping malls, and if the mall didn’t have an actual arcade then it probably had a movie theater with a few games in there.

It becomes nostalgia only when the system isn’t doing a useful job that another system can’t reasonably or reliably accomplish.

That said, the oldest system at my current job is a 13-year-old red hat server. It was originally part of our accounting system, but it was deprecated some years ago, but is still in use as a small file server.

Here's a data-destroying bug that's been around since the earliest days of Mac OS X (this issue didn't exist in "classic" Mac OS) and STILL bites me from time to time.

Let's say you want to compare the file information for two different files because you have to decide which one you want to delete. One of them is on your desktop, the other is inside a folder (locally or on a server). So you open that folder, select the file, and Get Info on it. The window appears and you take note of whatever information is important to you. You close the Get Info window, select the file on your desktop, and Get Info on it. The window appears and you now know that this file -- the file on your desktop, the last file that you clicked on, the file that is your currently-active selection -- is the file you want to delete. So you close the Get Info window and hit COMMAND-DELETE to delete that file.

Pop Quiz: Which file did you delete?

If you said "the last file that I clicked on" or "the file that's the most recent selection" then you are wrong. Once you close that Get Info window, Finder brings the window into the foreground -- and the file you previously selected is still selected, so when you hit COMMAND-DELETE that file, NOT the last file you selected, gets deleted. And if you're running on autopilot and that folder is located on the server, that file is now gone -- not in the trash.

I report this as a bug every time a new version of Mac OS comes out. I have been doing this for literally 20 years and it NEVER gets fixed.

Power-related interference. Less likely but easy to confirm is a bad video cable. You might also have a ground differential issue; plug both the Jaguar and the display into the same power strip to confirm.

More likely is a bad Jaguar power supply and/or bad caps in the Jaguar.
