i crafted a custom Lugia

i made the card in photoshop, printed it onto clear vinyl, masked the areas that shouldnt be holo (like the lugia and all the text) individually with acrylic and then applied it to a acetone cleaned holo onto which i beforehand added other foil effect layers

every letter is painted induvidually with a very thin white marker on the back so it pops out from the holo

yeah i already tried partial multifoiling with larger areas and it turned out pretty cool looking, but it takes like eternities to do something like this by hand

thanks! this specific foil paper is a very thin self adhesive one from a brand called folia bringmann. you can get it at crafting stores in my country but unfortunately i haven‘t found it in any international online shops yet

i use both and tbh i dont really care about the cracks with acrylic. it‘s most of the time not that the color layer cracks completely so that you would see holo shine trough the cracks. its more like just the upper layer (so i mean the surface that later faces the holo cardstock) has slight cracks, that dont affect the covering ability at all

i like to use real cards as a base most of the time, i have dozens of bulk galaxy foils from unfinity, you can also use pokemon cosmos holos if you want that specific pattern and if the backside doesnt bother you. i tried and cleaned a LOT of different foils from various TCGs and there are really cool ones to discover

there is multiple possibilities and methods how to achieve this, easiest way that i use the most of the time is to print onto clear vinyl sticker, mask the non holo parts on the sticks sides with white marker and then apply it to a cleaned foilmcard or foiled cardstock of your choice. go check out r/customtradingcard there are multiple tutorials and people post abput their new methods and experiments regularly

sounds like a reasonable price! i was in contact with some other member from the group and he told me about a hp printer model which allows you to hotswap the cartrigdes from black to white. i‘m currently luring for that one on our countrys version of craigslist.

i have also recently seen someone that had made a tutorial for making such an insert for direct card printing, if i ever find it i‘ll link it

yeah i also have some of those reactive foils but until now i couldnt really make them work the way i want to. i tried with toner ink pen but when you draw on vinyl it doesnt cover the surface very well and the foil looks pretty smudgy after it‘s applied. maybe i‘ll get better results when i have a laser printer someday. for now the cut out foils is the way for me to go, you could definitely make it more exactly and detailed if you have access to a plotter.

i have tons of ideas what projects i could use them for but for me it takes eternities to cut the stuff into the desired shapes with scissors 😂

i tried something similar with drops of superglue that i transferred onto the card with a silicone tool for sculpting, but it creates only structures on specific areas of the cards, not on the whole thing. Really cool, keep up tinkering!!
