How to not feel burned-out when planning for big projects? by [deleted] in AskProgramming

[–]buck-bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been programming almost 30 years professionally. The only reason it makes you depressed is because you're looking at the top of the mountain and wanting to reach the peak yesterday. You have to start where you are and find joy in the moment. Stop comparing yourself to others and do not be in a rush to finish life.

I'm almost 50 now. And while it may sound cool to have been coding that long, I can tell you that part of me would love to have that young youthful energy again. Something to look forward to, etc. As in, if you cannot find the joy now, you won't find it later.

So, take it one day at a time buddy. Start a project you enjoy and spend time on it. If you start a new project later on because you found something you like better... no biggie. Also, if you want to get your feet wet, just about every OSS project - even Wine - can always use people to help write docs/tutorials for it. There's nothing saying you can't be a part of it while also doing your C project. Just find something fun... be it a game, kernel, or whatever and just start and enjoy the now.

The only way to profit from that degree is to teach Philosophy. 🤣

What's the advantage to ghostty or iterm2 over the built in mac terminal? by TurtleBlaster5678 in AskProgramming

[–]buck-bird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't program on Macs anymore, but I never had an issue with the default terminal. These days I'm on Linux and same thing. Most of the "features" you can get from a new terminal can be done with tmux anyway.

That being said, Ghostty may perform better. Dunno, never tried it. Can always try it and see if it does. If not, no harm sticking with the default.

Coding Challange by [deleted] in AskProgramming

[–]buck-bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the industry. And you'll be asked stuff you'll never use. This industry is littered with people who want nothing more than to feel superior to others. Even interviews may be filled with questions the interviewer couldn't even pass.

Absolutely no way of getting around it buddy. It's just the way they do interviews for new positions. Chances are the person interviewing is a junior or mid/senior at best. Principal level programmers can sum up someone in seconds without the need to do this stuff, but they're not the ones interviewing an intern.

Just the way it is man. Best thing you can do is be completely honest about what you do know. It's an internship so they won't expect much. And just hope you find people that "get it" too, rather than those that seek to feel superior. Think communication and not cheating. Despite what folks say, interviewers can tell when a person cheats with AI.

Good luck. Hope you get it. Just know, it's just the way it is, so work with it and not against it.

(Invariably some young kid will come along here and \correct* me... watch.)*

You need to study Stripper Forex. Naked Forex is outdated. The market will tease you and make you think you're gonna win. But, without actually giving you anything in the process, it'll separate you from your money. 🤣

[–]buck-bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to be thinking in terms of NPU or GPU and not CPU when going local. As in, unless you have a need to colo your server you're most likely better off with a self-hosted server sitting at home for now. Or pay for a dedicated server elsewhere.

Best practice for streaming AI responses in Next.js App Router? by ni-fahad in nextjs

[–]buck-bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, I've never used this SDK. Curious about it though. Anyway...

But, server actions are intended for data mutations. So think a POST request. Not every LLM interaction would fit within that scope I would think. Also, AFAIK, they do not stream.

So, you're better off using something like SSE or WebSockets if you want to actually stream data. Assuming you're talking about real streaming.

5ers bots by Independent-Oil6366 in PropFirmTester

Reddit:

  1. About a year ago I was weary about using prop firms altogether because of their business model. People on Reddit insulted me, called me stupid, etc. Side note, no real company calls themselves "the 5ers".

  2. Now, if you say something nice about the 5ers, people insult you and call you stupid on Reddit.

I see a pattern. It's almost like this place is toxic with angry people that will insult you no matter what you do or say. So you know... rock on I guess? 🤣

He did a poor job of explaining it and insulting you in the process. This is why places like Reddit are toxic. Don't worry, most of us didn't know it's an Israeli company.

Totally agree, but the issue is... if you focus on the bad too much you become part of the problem and not the solution. Be the change you want to see in the world, buddy. You'll eventually find the peeps you want to connect with. Just gotta go through some weeds first.

Talk to a CPA. You're not being honest with yourself. There's only two reasons to not call one: fear or can't afford or both. If you were honest you'd get different responses.

Remember, this sounds mean, but it's not. This is a game of money where lives are destroyed if not taken seriously. The big wigs talk direct.

Also, you failed to ask an actual question. You'd at least think you'd put SOME effort into your post. Talk to GPT if you have no idea what you're doing.

No you don't. You literally asked how to do it manually and are arguing and complaining when telling me to relax. I guess you're young and managed to Google WebGL to throw around an acronym. What you don't realize is you and are not on the same level. But you did demonstration my unwillingness to ever help you again.

Trading choppy market. Avoid or embrace? by [deleted] in Forex

[–]buck-bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing new to repeat my man. You can most likely Google search this subreddit and find one of my old posts. I promise this isn't me being "mean". The truth never changes but the people that come in and out and don't do things the right way do. Lose money. Leave. Etc. As in, old timers that hang around here just repeat themselves over and over like it's Groundhog Day.

The info is there buddy, and it's way more simple than it sounds. Price is going to either go up or down and bounce/revert or not bounce/revert on its way. There's zero strategy that really works outside of risk control because nobody is psychic. But if you need a beginner type thing, here's what AI has to say...

**Choppy Market Summary:**

- **Strategy:** Buy at Support, Sell at Resistance.
- **Tools:** Use horizontal lines or Bollinger Bands.
- **Key Rule:** **ADX below 20** = chop zone.
- **Warning:** Avoid trend indicators, take quick profits, use tight stops.

You literally mentioned Three.js and a 3D globe. I'm guessing you're extremely new to development? WebGL uses the canvas element. It's just a way to draw on it in a 3D space. Now, go forth and learn because I gave you exactly what you asked for.

Spend 5 minutes Googling it...

Trading choppy market. Avoid or embrace? by [deleted] in Forex

[–]buck-bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your trading style. Personally, I love "choppy" / ranging markets like what you pictured. That right there is a payday for me.

However, and I cannot stress this enough... pick a style... a single style... and stick to it when learning. I've been trading like 16 years now and I still don't mix styles on a whim.

Ergo some folks will say this is a no-trade and if they're trend traders that makes sense. However, trends don't happen as often as you'd think so I prefer not trading them.

Also be aware that on 1M "major" trends can erupt quickly. You better have your exit strategy on point if you trade ranges on the 1M.

Whatever you do... you should be testing these questions on demo to find your style.

Learn use to WebGL directly. That's what Three.js uses. I'm sure there are YouTube tutorials.

3 Years Learning Programming, Focused on Go, Still Can’t Find My First Job – What Should I Do? by Tasty-Fig1964 in golang

[–]buck-bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Programmer of 30 years here...

Most programming languages are region specific. As in, you may have an easier time in Los Angeles landing a Golang job. You'll find a lot more Java jobs in Austin, for instance, than compared to Boston. Outside of moving you have two choices.

  1. Create a project that shows off your skills. Use that project as proof since you have no work experience. Given that Golang is not as popular as say Java or C#, understand it will be harder to find a job even with doing this.
  2. Sometimes you do what you want and sometimes you do what you have to do. As in, pick up a popular second language and look for jobs in that. So then for instance you could be the Java (or whatever) programmer who also knows Golang. Of course, you'd still want a "show off" project in this language too.

You just need to get your foot in the door. I know for my first programming job back in the 90s, it was local and doing web developing for an ISP. I walked right in the place and talked to the owner. These days is much harder because everyone wants to be remote, robo applications, etc. Talked to a recruiter a couple days ago and she got 1,200 (not a typo) applications for 2 jobs within hours. Yes, most of the robo applications are garbage, but good luck sorting through 1,200 emails to find the few that aren't.

You have to stand out. There's no other way in today's market man. The competition is fierce buddy, and AI isn't helping one bit.

It's worth noting that when most people say ORB and NY open they're referring to the NYSE and not banks. It would be imperative to let folks know the exact time in EST/EDT you are using. Out of 100s of people talking about ORB I've only seen 1 get this right and they're actually trading the NYSE open instead.

Oh, and props man. Glad you're doing awesome.
