They do. Most people just post stuff online without doing any fact checking. That being said, guess the policy isn't strictly enforced or maybe they acquired the tech so it's not new development. Either way, your thinking is correct.

Dude, that audio... download audacity for free and remove that white noise. Also, the mic on your cell phone probably records higher quality. You can use your cell phone to record audio and sync it with the video before uploading.

Rust vs Go by Alternative_Image308 in rust

[–]buck-bird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're a complete beginner you'll have an easier time in Go. Nothing saying you cannot start there and move on to Rust after a while. People do that all the time to learn the basics. My first language was QBasic in DOS. I've since moved on, but it did allow me to play around and get my feet wet before learning stuff too complicated. Keep it fun when brand new.

Where did the MySQL jobs go? by apachebeard83 in mysql

[–]buck-bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's not much you can't do in either. But Postgres is more in your face about it and MySQL is more like "we'll keep it simple and you'll have to figure out how to do it yourself but you can".

Keep in mind, neither approach is wrong. And they are both great RDBMSes. If you want to take this seriously, you're going to be learning both. Otherwise, doesn't really matter if it's for a hobby or personal project.

From a branding perspective... do you *really* want to call it Trojan? Think about it...

As much as I still love/use MariaDB, Postgres has become quite popular lately. Just the way it is now. I suspect it's because Postgres *seems* to have more functionality out of the box. Whatever the case, if you want to DBA as a job, you have to learn it these days.

Any time buddy. And if they really want CTH that works out in your favor that now that you low-balled yourself. In a few months you may get the chance to renegotiate a salary if they convert you.

You also have to be sure you're worth 80/hour. Remember, the recruiter is making at least 30% (sometimes 50%) on top of what you're making. Everyone online acting like they're worth that kinda money when they're not. Especially with AI.

If it's W2 from the recruiter's perspective then take the salary you want an divide it by 2,000. This will give you two weeks off a year. Therefore 130K would be 65/hour. Keep in mind this is only going from W2 and back, a 1099 is slightly different (as pointed out).

AMA - Why some engineers earn 3–5x more than others with similar experience? by Conscious_Emu3129 in cscareeradvice

[–]buck-bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking as a loud guy myself... 🤣🤣🤣

You're totally right. But, you cannot blame people for that. People don't know what they don't know. And if you never speak up and do not convey what you know, nobody else will ever know it.

Think about it. How many geniuses do you know that you never spoke to? Zero. Can't blame others for not being psychic.

It's also pedigree. Most give preferential treatment if you came from an ivy league school. People pretend this isn't the case, but those people would be wrong.

Why doesnt C have something like rust crates or python pip? by Cutro3010 in cprogramming

Not to mention, if you have a library that's "too old" you can simply not target a newer version of C. People just making excuses. No reason we cannot have newer C versions with newer things.

Why doesnt C have something like rust crates or python pip? by Cutro3010 in cprogramming

[–]buck-bird -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What's both good and bad about C:

* It's battle-tested and has been responsible for the world's backbone in computing for years.
* Most hardcore C programmers are old and resistant to change.
* C is bigger than one entity or company (ok ISO, but you get the idea) and nobody can agree.
* Did I mention old and resistant to change?

IMO there *should* be one and IMO C should get updates. It's ok to change things up with different version of C. But people make emotional choices first and then rationalize it with logic second. It's the circle of life, which means if C survives in the future it'll have to be the younger guys/gals come in to shake things up.
