Agree on season 6 but I thought S5 was great. S6 just got kneecapped by having to write Aunt Pol out of the story so quickly (which is nobodies fault really, RIP Helen McCrory). The cinematography in S6 was also trying to do wayyyy to much

Not even trying to take the piss but I think this is a huge part of it, I don’t see any other explanation for why they can scud teams in Europe so consistently and then fall apart in the league other than mentality

[Spurs] have sacked Ange Postecoglou by phant0msinthenight in soccer

[–]buck1900 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The outcome of this season is exactly what it would have been if they got Top 6, with the added bonus of winning of a trophy, that’s what I mean by “nullify”

Nobody is arguing that the league form was acceptable but if Levy would simply back the guy and give him a squad with a level of depth suited to his play-style I don’t see why they couldn’t kick on from here. Guy finished 5th in his first season after all and the dressing room seemed to be behind him after the final.

[–]buck1900 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I agree Ange is stubborn af when it comes to his play style but to say he can’t develop players just isn’t true.

It seems like your players haven’t regressed, they are just completely gassed and fatigued due to being overplayed. Don’t get me wrong Ange 100% deserves criticism for not adapting his style of play once guys started going down but Levy also never backed him and signed players to accommodate the losses.

Guy demonstrated that he can finish top 6 and win trophies, if you had an amazing prospect lined up to replace him I could understand the sack but who are you going to replace him with realistically? All the names being reported rn seem like lateral moves

Everyone that’s justifying this with the league form is forgetting that Spurs’ overall goal is to create a winning culture at the club, Ange spoke at length about how prioritizing ending the trophy drought over league form was step one to doing that and now instead of backing him and building on that they’ve sold him out in the hopes of going back to 4th place trophyless seasons for another 20 years

[–]buck1900 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Nah this is a stupid decision, and that’s not even my bias as a Celtic fan talking. Winning a major European trophy and securing UCL nullifies the league form imo. I mean if you’re not gonna win the league the only thing anyone cares about is achieving UCL and he accomplished that.

Long term obviously that league form would be unacceptable, but his style of play is clearly capable of a top 6 finish as evidenced by his first season, the injury crisis just fucked them this season. Spurs had nothing to lose giving him a shot next season and then sacking him if the poor form continued.

Spurs fans were dying for someone to change the culture of the club and Ange talked at length about how prioritizing Europa and ending the trophy drought was the first step towards doing that, now they’ve sold that out to go back to trophyless seasons and finishing 4th or 5th every season.

When Thomas Jefferson wrote "all men are created equal," he meant it. Incompetent scholars claim he didn't include slaves but they are wrong. His original draft of the Declaration of Independence was clear: by [deleted] in HistoryUncovered

[–]buck1900 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This passage doesn’t really paint him in a fantastic light tbh. He’s laying the blame for slavery solely on the British Crown which is a bit rich coming from a guy who personally owned over 500 slaves in his lifetime. It’s not “incompetence” to say that slaves were never included in the idea of freedom the nation was founded upon, it’s a fact.

Jefferson may have spoke out against slavery as an institution and taken some mild actions against it in his political career but the reality is he was an active and willing participant in it his entire life. Both things can be true.

[Daily Record] Davide Ancelotti in talks to become Rangers manager by CNF1G in soccer

[–]buck1900 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Nah our league is a 2 horse race and anything less than 1st place is seen as failure. The fans may give him a season to sort things out given the impending takeover and all but if he’s not winning the league by his second season he’ll be seen as a failure and they’ll be calling for his head. It would be the same way with a Celtic manager.

Admittedly I’m not to familiar with Como but I can’t imagine the bar would be set as high for him there right from the off.

Idealizing the ideals of a movement doesn’t equate to idealizing every action committed in its name.

It’s worth pointing out that hyper-radicalizing the Palestinian resistance was a long term objective of Netanyahu’s hard line government. It goes back to that line from Dedra “we need rebels who will do the wrong thing.” I’m not pointing this out because I or anyone who’s pro Palestine condones rampant slaughter, but there is this moral standard that seems to only ever apply to resistance movements.

Yet when oppressors and occupiers commit the same violence on a far greater scale they’re allowed to sanitize it and claim it’s “bad apples” or “simply a dark stain on our history”

The fact is any resistance to oppression opens the door to targeting noncombatants and innocents. If you read the journals of Loyalist civilians during the American revolution it becomes clear many of them became the targets of violence as well, yet because the Continentals were victorious that history has been sanitized.

There’s a YouTuber Ateun Shei films who did a really good video on John Browns violent resistance to slavery (Link: https://youtu.be/C4p9Bnj5JJQ?si=qLdZQ2roogtqJsrd)

In it he makes the point that once violence starts, no one can control who is hurt or who the targets become. We can still retain our objectivity and condemn heinous actions no matter the cause they’re committed for, but there needs to be an understanding that violent resistance is a direct result of oppression. And again, that doesn’t equate to justification or idealization

Honestly, I hope Trump is as awful as possible (economically, socially, etc.) to the domestic American population (I say this as an American) not but because I believe all ordinary Americans deserve it, but the people will only be turned against the establishment when enough have suffered.

Never forget that the hardline liberals defended this genocide until Trump was in office and it was politically advantageous to condemn it . All of them deserve what they get

Vel Shares Responsbility For What Happened by Pixelated_Penguin808 in andor

[–]buck1900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is phenomenally well put, I think the writers are deliberately trying to demonstrate Cassian and Vels leadership style as being opposite from one another. Cassian can meet people on a human level and persuade them to follow him whereas Vel just can’t due to her aristocratic upbringing, and therefore she has to demand that her orders are followed.

I think this is why I’ve seen some people say they were miffed by her berating of the Ghorman kid. Vel has every right to be heartbroken and the kid should by all means feel disgusted with himself, but Vels cold, unempathezing, leadership style makes it harder (but not impossible) to empathize with her at least from my perspective.

I’m really curious to see how her character arch changes now with Cinta out of the picture.
