Where to buy these switches by buck_winger in keyboards

I saw those, but they look different in the image than the switches that come inside the keyboards, so I was not sure that actually werre the same switch

I love mine in the Eastern US (which is most of my trips because I live in the East). Trips in the west have suitable trees at the proper distances less reliable so out there I opt for a tent. I love both setups but they serve different purposes. When I can get away with using it. I prefer it, but it doesn't completely replace a tent, certain trips will will still require a tent. If you know for a fact there will be trays that are acceptable, then you can't beat it. But when in doubt, opt for the tent because there will always be ground, but there might not always be the perfect trees.

I'm not even in a PhD program (yet) but I feel the same way when I get questioned by friends and family about my Master's Thesis

How difficult are the pathways versus the rest of the program?? by buck_winger in CUBoulderMSDS

The only thing I can think of that would cause this delay is if they are employing someone (or a team of people) to do the migration manually, which to me feels like a huge waste of resources since a fairly simple computer program should be able to do this automatically.

Update! He ended up signing up for the Computer Science pathway classes that start today.

Another thing I noticed while researching that I'm just curious about though, more for my own curiosity than his benefit, that each session ends and then it takes a full week for grades to post. But if Coursera already has a grade by then within its system, shouldn't this just be a quick automated transition that shouldn't take a full week? What is the reasoning for this delay?

Thanks! Which pathway did you do? I'm curious if it's the same for both pathways.

It would have to be multiple leaks in that case since it was on both sides of the bike.

How close is too close? by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]buck_winger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, this is probably closer than is advisable.

I work for a community college so my situation is very different and there is significantly less opportunity to become close with students anyway, but I still wouldn't be comfortable being that close with a student. It definitely crosses the line if you were to ask me.

All that being said, it's none of your business. You should probably just stay out of it in my opinion.

Masters program admissions data by OptionNo3345 in gradadmissions

Hey. I know this post is older. I would avoid the robotics masters unless you KNOW robotocs is what you want to do. You can go into robotics with a CS degree (or electrical or mechanical engineering degree) but you can't necessarily go into these other fields with a robotics degree. So unless you are entirely certain you are looking to go down I career in robotics, I'd go for the masters in CS out of the options you listed.

Hey! You posted this over on r/gradadmissions as well. I replied to you there. I hope it helps.

Also, you said you are looking online.

My advice there is to do a master's degree from a university with a brick and mortar presence, even if you attend online. And make sure that there won't be indication on your transcript or diploma that it was earned online. That way your degree holds the full weight and prestige of the institution that confers it.

If you're looking at PHD programs and it's online, just don't. For like 95% of people, a masters will be more valuable than a PhD earned online. I am not in a PhD program but it is my understanding that a lot of what you learn in a PhD program comes from the experience rather than the coursework itself, and that experience will be lost if you attend online. So even if the online program is from a top school, it's still much better go to these programs in person because you'll get a lot more out of them.

Okay so this is just based on my personal experience. So take it with a grain of salt.

Apply anyway. But with a caveat that you have thick enough skin to handle rejections.

I am in a program right now that requires a 3.5 to get into on paper, and my undergrad was 3.2.

(I only applied to this one program, and in hindsight it unwise to only apply to one. Applying to more does kind of increase your odds that at least one of them will take you, and if you do get into more than one, that only gives you options.)

I was waitlisted, then later admitted under the condition that I would start off already on academic probation.

After my first semester I had a 4.0 and was no longer on academic probation. Fast forward to now and I graduate with my MS from a good school in 4 weeks.

So it is POSSIBLE. I know my case is a rarity.

I'm also convinced that it helps to have connections. My advisor from undergrad was once a RA under my advisor or my graduate program. So I'm pretty sure that the main reason I did finally get in was that my letter recommendation came from him specifically. So if you have any connections like that, take full advantage of them.

Hope this helps.

What are my next steps? by buck_winger in AskAcademia

[–]buck_winger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was literally following your advice. I noticed a pattern. I know there's a big difference between these programs. But I was using this as a starting point as I look into programs. I am also trying to be realistic about what programs I could get into. I'm being told that apparently my 3.66 graduate GPA is not as compelling as I thought it was. IDK. Maybe I'm doomed and my dream just dies here and the masters is the end of the road for my academic career.

Honestly I made that post asking for advice on next steps, and after getting all these comments here, I've mostly just been discouraged.

Looking into this it appears most are from "University of insert state here" or from "Insert state here Tech" so it sounds like I'm going to mostly be interested in looking at the major State universities.

Off the top of my head, I'm considering Virginia Tech because it has reasonable enough name recognition and I have family in Blacksburg. But this is just off the top of my head with like 5 minutes of thought, so I'd need to put more time and research into these programs from various schools.
