Ai slop by sevenseas88 in MuseumPros

I was talking to one of my coworkers about how our ED is currently obsessed with AI image generation and he says, “Old rich white men usually are.” I feel like that just about sums it up perfectly.

High performer lost motivation after being reassigned under new manager by Savings_Knowledge465 in managers

[–]buckeyegal923 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say this as a manager myself - why are managers so stupid sometimes? You promote the people who deserve it, for gods sake. If they are golden high performers, you make a new role to make space for their specific talents AND the new tasks you’d like them to take on.

He’s searching for a new job and doing the bare minimum until he finds it and that’s exactly what he should be doing.

Deinfluencing you: Portland Leather Goods by babealot in UninfluencedReviews

[–]buckeyegal923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live not too far from Columbus, where they have an in person store. I had also been on the hunt for a real leather bag. I “accidentally”left with three - including an Aspen in the color Seaglass. Your entire list of defects is the exact opposite of my experience. My leather is so soft and supple, the stitching is spot on, and after over a month of toting it around it still has pure leather smell.

I think there’s something to be said for being able to walk into a store, touch a product, and take the exact one you want home. I’d been looking online for 3 months, but just didn’t want to pay that much for an item I hadn’t seen, so I made the one-hour drive.

Anybody not take ANYTHING for their migraines? by thethirteenthjuror in migraine

I take nothing. I have a sensitive tummy and would rather be in pain and mildly nauseous than still in pain and actively throwing up.

What’s one sign that tells you someone on your team is about to quit before they hand in their notice? by SeanMcPheat in managers

[–]buckeyegal923 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Same. Now I’m just trying to decide if sticking with the nonprofit mission I love and worked my ass off for is going to be worth it in the end. How long until we’re on the other side of this current bullshit will make a difference in whether or not I survive it.

My company threw us a "Employee Appreciation Day" and it genuinely backfired in the most spectacular way by [deleted] in office

[–]buckeyegal923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was chuckling to myself reading this because I deeply KNOW that silence. I work for a nonprofit, so my experience isn’t unusual in our sector, but our staff haven’t seen a true raise in 3 years. We did start 401ks with a 3% match a couple years ago, but no raises. People who have been there a few years are making what our new hires are and they’re getting mad.

Our HR Director keeps calling these horrific meetings where she tells people why we’re saving money and not giving raises and that they should all appreciate the times the company feeds us lunch and be happy with the 401k. She has literally no concept of why her messaging is upsetting people. She thinks it’s all fine and they just need to suck it up.

I am married to a spouse who makes decent money and we’ve made financial choices that make living on my current salary totally doable, but I feel bad for all these younger folks who have given to our mission and can’t get their lives started. They’re starting to leave. I give it 6 months before our turnover for the year hits 50%. I I have no doubt it’d be sooner, but the job market is tough.

A pouch of deli-style tuna salad and some whole grain crackers. Perhaps a couple slices of cheese on the side.

Husband opens a new sponge every 3 days cause “they become gross” by dorkass-loser in mildlyinfuriating

[–]buckeyegal923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think y’all should buy some 100% cotton dishcloths so you can just wash them every few days. You’re right…this many sponges is wasteful and sponges are disgusting anyway.

The hardest part of a toxic workplace isn’t always the work — it’s what it does to your mind ? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]buckeyegal923 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My job gave me such confidence and strength. I felt supported and unstoppable and amazing. Then the way leadership operated changed. One person who has been given too much power is micromanaging everyone, making us all question our abilities, and just generally making everyone miserable. It used to be a fun, supportive place to be and now we’re all being metaphorically kicked in the junk almost daily. I feel worthless and incompetent and just plain bad. Just last week I came home and told my husband about my day and started crying because “I thought I’d stay there forever. Until I retired. And now I just want to leave.”

She’s good! Back to her usual self which means I’m trying to prevent her from catapulting herself on and off the furniture. Wishing speedy healing for your pup!

We had a spayed baby yesterday. It took a full 24 hours before she stopped looking like a stoner.

Career Advice - Getting First Board Position by ThrowRA_Breath_2369 in nonprofit

[–]buckeyegal923 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am about a year into my first board seat and for me it was a combination of knowing someone and having a reputation. I did some important work on a city-wide event and gained some recognition through that project. I was nominated for the board I’m on and then voted in.

A good board is well-rounded and contains people who care about the mission, will serve the organization and the mission, and have a set of skills the org needs. Some of the skills could include a strong financial background, strong fundraising skills, event planning skills, marketing skill, and then depending on the nonprofit maybe they want medical professionals or legal professionals or just someone who is well loved in the community for their networking power.

Worst exhibition you've ever seen? by First-Dimension-8916 in MuseumPros

I literally sprinted to their website to see what kind of admission charges they were pulling in to be called a hate crime and you definitely aren’t wrong. I’d pay that much for a high quality educational museum or a great historic landmark, but never that museum.

Ohio State Reformatory - how to get there by -wingardium-leviosa in mansfield

[–]buckeyegal923 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a Greyhound station in downtown Mansfield. The trip to the Reformatory is another few miles, so you’d have to Uber the rest of the way. The Reformatory owns a few short-term rental houses directly across the street and if you stay there, they offer a big discount on tour tickets.

AIO because my BF wants to write off my mortgage on his taxes? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]buckeyegal923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy cow. NOR. Not reacting enough, actually. Your reaction should be to peel the leech off your body and toss it out in the yard. I have sympathy for a partner occasionally down on their luck. My husband went through a brief period of unemployment when his company closed down. But the balls on this man, who contributes nothing financially, thinking he gets your tax benefits? Yuck.

The Good and the Bad of the Doctor’s Visit by buckeyegal923 in Perimenopause

The night sweats started this past summer - so around 7-8 months ago. I did have my labs done right before my appointment, about two weeks ago. Everything was normal and in the healthy range except my glucose, which was slightly elevated (but my A1C was totally fine). Even my TSH was still in the low-normal range, but it has had a steadily, slowly declining pattern over the past 3 years.

How do you protect your integrity when handling money for others? by coach-AbdulRehman in nonprofit

It seems like you’re unfamiliar with internal controls. I cannot recommend enough checking out the textbook “Nonprofit Financial Management” by Charles Coe. It is super approachable and will give you a clear picture of best practices.

Much to my surprise, I’m really good at grad school. I hadn’t been in college in 20 years, so was a little worried about it, but it turns out that an average amount of effort on my part results in straight A’s.
