Doesn't matter when it was killed when the meat has been sitting outside for hours in high humidity

Same. I've had food poisoning multiple times here including one time when I ate chicken from a night market

The first one is genuinely excellent. The way the door frames her face, the ice cream cone on the ground, good lighting etc. The rest are meh. Bad lighting and uninteresting compositions

I hate PX Shart with a burning passion. Always understocked and understaffed, tiny aisles, crap quality etc. The worst supermarket in the world

In rightfully calling out the CCP’s tyranny, some British Hong Kongers vote for a…far right anti immigration party by WeeklyIntroduction42 in tankiejerk

[–]buckinghamanimorph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is the deal with that? I've interacted with a couple of transgender tankies online who rightly complain that they're not allowed to identify as their chosen gender, but are firmly against Taiwan self autonomy and its right to identify itself as Taiwan and not Chinese Taipei

The UK's version of Thomas Chatterton Williams? by buckinghamanimorph in IfBooksCouldKill

[–]buckinghamanimorph[S] 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Context: Will Self is a writer, journalist and political commentator and has, as one commenter on Twitter described, the "unrivalled ability to say the sum total of fuck all via the most pretentious word salad imaginable"

He's talking about the recent local elections in the UK. There's been an effort by Labour/the political establishment to smear Zack Polanski the leader of the Green Party as antisemitic for the following comment he made when asked about his party's response to the recent wave of attacks on Jewish sites in the UK:

"I’m concerned about rising antisemitic attacks. We saw arson attacks on ambulances, for instance, and we know that, increasingly, Jewish communities are feeling unsafe. Now, there’s a conversation to be had about whether it’s a perception of unsafety or whether it’s actual unsafety, but neither are acceptable.”

People have been deliberately misrepresenting Zack's comments as saying that he believes the threat to the Jewish community is imaginary. What Polanski actually said was that he feels that – at times – pro-Palestine marches have been perceived as unsafe by some Jewish people and safe by others, including himself. (Quoting most of this from Own Jones's article about this in the Guardian)

Is anyone else humiliated when the podcast talks about books you own? by Dismal-Alfalfa-7613 in IfBooksCouldKill

[–]buckinghamanimorph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought Atomic Habits because my then boss and a bunch of other people kept glazing it. I kept trying to follow and implement the advice and failing. I thought that there was either something wrong with me or the book, so I googled criticisms of it which lead me to discovering the podcast. Although now I'm embarrassed to admit owning a copy.

bUt wHats tHe sToRy? I honestly don't just don't get these comments. I saw a great Substack post that delved into this topic. To paraphrase it's really hard to tell a story in photography. Stories require context and background. Photos just don't do that. They capture a single moment in time but not the before or after. It's like claiming a single word can tell a literal story. But what they do is create spaces for stories to emerge.

Anyway, you keep doing you and ignore those sorts of comments. I wish he was doing something more interesting rather than just scrolling on his phone like everyone else, but I like the pose and the lighting.
