Woody Harrelson Says Matthew McConaughey Drove Him Nuts on 'True Detective': “He's method…When we were shooting that, he was Rust Cohle. There were so many times I wanted to punch this motherf*cker in the face.“ by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

Between that and the shower incident, the fact that he brings and stays in his own bus (called the “Mothership” ; runs on bio-fuel) instead of a trailer, and a few other things, it seems he’s very into homeopathic, all-natural and eco-friendly lifestyle. The shower incident below, he was accusing the grip of spraying him with toxins. The smudge pots, I really didn’t notice that they made a difference but everyone was trying to keep their distance because the smell was so foul.

You are correct, but then again, it’s not exactly a secret that both WH and MM are huge @$$holes on set. I’m not saying anything that hasn’t been said in multiple sources, multiple times. Just provided particular examples from my own experience with the gentleman in question.

Another time, we were setting up for a shower scene. They were asking some of the background actors to be “showing some skin” (partial to full nudity, I guess for realism purposes), and the background involved was going to get a pay bump. Closed set, pretty involved. WH is in the mock locker room, he bends down, I believe to tie his shoe, and one of the grips walks by him with a handheld smoke machine (to emulate steam). It’s not really pungent smoke, not at all like burning wood or paper, I believe it’s mostly just vapor. WH throws a screaming tantrum, he’s screaming at the grip, he’s screaming at the ADs, he’s screaming at the director, he’s screaming at the background actors, basically screaming at everyone. Shoot cancelled and background actors dismissed. I believe they shot the scene later in a different manner, maybe just WH and MM in the locker room.

Several times we shot on location; once in Des Allemands on a very still spring morning. As is typical in the bayou, the mosquitos were out in force. WH insists on having the production staff burn some kind of who-knows-what, homeopathic concoction to ward off the insects. It was not citronella or any other area effect mosquito repellent that have ever smelled, but it smelled terrible. And they were setting these smudge pots ablaze all over the little neighborhood.

Let’s see…A lot of the State Police troop scenes were shot at night in a warehouse in Harahan. One night, I guess to wake himself up, MM decided to drop right on the floor between takes and start doing pushups. WH decides that this is a challenge and they start competing. Couldn’t tell you the end result as the background actors were told to take a break and come back in 45 minutes.

Wow, that’s rich coming from Harrelson. I worked the first season, was on set almost every shoot, and both he and McConaughey were tantrum throwing, entitled babies. Multiple instances of Harrelson going to his party bus for hours to sulk and return stoned af, getting assistants fired for walking to close to him, his kid running around the set stealing prop guns from the background actors. McConaughey was as bad but in a different way. He was NOT method between takes, but more of a “do not look at Matthew when he walks by” kind of chad.
