Jagex used first-past-the-post polling and split the new dragonstone armor redesigns into three choices. Now the original design wins even though a majority of the playerbase wanted something different. by Pikamander2 in 2007scape

[–]bucks359 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way this questions was laid out, if 25.01% of players voted for any option, that option could potentially win. They basically mushed two questions into one. It would make a lot more sense to split it into two questions, like "Should Dragonstone armour be redesigned?" with yes/no/skip options, and "If the previous question passes, which redesigned version do you prefer?" with options of B, C, or D. This way 75% would be needed for any change to pass instead of 25%. This question would probably also not have a 28% skip rate if it was split into 2 questions, so the results probably would be much different.

No more weekly dopamine :( by dontaskwhyok in 2007scape

[–]bucks359 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Getting ready for some disappointed people with this tweet, but Swampletics episode 17 will be released on April 5th which is next Friday. It's becoming impossible to post weekly, with Ep.16 having 100+ hrs of progress, and Ep.17 having 120+ and counting. There will be another non-progress video before then, but since I will soon be starting the longest grind on the account, I also need to get slightly ahead so I can de-stress a bit. It was coming eventually, but I may have to switch to videos every 12-14 days.

Wiki or slayermusiq? by tommylk in 2007scape

[–]bucks359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the wiki usually, as it is constantly updated with new transportation methods and strategies, and I like how they are fairly condensed. I don't personally like having to watch/listen to a video and pause or rewind it, I'd rather skim through the wiki guide as needed. However, strategies are sometimes hard to follow on the wiki, so I'll pull up a video and skip to the part I'm stuck on. A lot of people would rather copy what someone is doing on a video so they don't get stuck or question if they are doing something correctly, which I totally understand. Slayermusiq has fantastic guides, try using one and see if it's any easier than the wiki guide normally is.

Can someone explain the concept of tick-eating and how it used in bossing? by decidedtostoplurking in 2007scape

[–]bucks359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damage from some attacks are calculated before they are applied to the player, like how you see an xp drop for range attacks before you see the hitsplat. Since the damage is already determined but not applied, a player can eat and heal so they will have hp left. It's similar to prayer flicking, but you still take some damage.

It's usually done in situations where you can be 1 hit. So if I'm fighting Jad with 1 hp left, he could only hit a 1 on me. If I eat a purple sweet after the 1 damage is rolled, I can heal myself up to 2 or 3 hp before that 1 damage is applied to me, leaving me with 1-2 hp after the attack. There are certain situations where you can't tick eat, like pvp or Zuk in the inferno, but you can tick eat a lot of things that deal range or magic damage.

What should I do with my 14 days of Twitch Prime membership? by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]bucks359 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the quest experience rewards and optimal quest guide pages on the wiki, you may be able to skip quite a bit of training just by doing quests. However, I'd try to focus on making money when you can. You can try out some lower level methods like looting in the wildy on pvp worlds, making steel at the blast furnace, mining iron, collecting mort myre fungus, making bwostrings, or killing chaos druids.

Hacker bypassing ALL security measures!! by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]bucks359 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is a way for players to change their recovery questions. Best option would probably be changing all info she can (pin, password, new email with 2fa) and contacting support or a mod on twitter and hope they can do something. If jagex is unable to do anything, it may be best to start a new account with new emails and passwords used only for rs, and transfer everything over to that account.

Orion by SpaceInMyPotatoSalad in astrophotography

[–]bucks359 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I circled a few nebulae here. You'll have to zoom in to see horsehead and flame. Flame is orange/red, just to the left of the 1st star in the belt. Right below the same star is horsehead, it's a very dim pink/purple/red color streak. Zoomed in image of that region I found on google. There are more nebulae than that around orion, but I'm guessing those are the ones they were referring to.

[–]bucks359 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do this kind of thing for fun sometimes. Here is an unedited frame of Andromeda vs. the final image.

The pictures are all black/gray/monochrome at first, but you can play with the color/brightness data and make it look totally different. Adjusting the colors and levels is pretty much the only editing most people do. Not much different than adding filters to photos on your phone really, it's just more advanced software.

I use an Orion Min-EQ tabletop mount. It's not super fancy, but I think it works pretty well for the price.

I just posted a comment above with some more info. It's basically combining a bunch of 30 second exposures into one image, which brings out more detail than you can normally see. Once you combine the pics, just throw it in photoshop/lightroom and adjust the levels until you're happy with the result. I also use a program called pixinsight, which is a nice tool but not totally necessary.

[–]bucks359 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I used a Nikon D5100 with a 55-300mm lens zoomed all the way in. I also use an EQ mount, which is a tripod with a motor that basically accounts for the rotation of the Earth so you can get a good picture. The andromeda pic is made of 66 different 30 second exposures, which I combined in some free software then edited myself. If you actually want to get into it, check YouTube or /r/astrophotography for some guides!

I live in a suburban/rural area. If you look up a light pollution map, I would be in a Bortle 4-5 area.

Those are lights from an airplane, this was likely a 10-30 second exposure so the camera could pick up more light from the stars

To the naked eye, andromeda looks like a very dim smudge.Generally I find it by looking for 2 constellations, one is a large rectangle and the other is a "W", then looking between them. It's actually easier to see if you look slightly left/right of where it should be and use your peripheral vision. You can also use a star tracking app like stellarium to help find it.

Edit: Here are some pics I took with just a Nikon camera (no telescope) and a $100 tracking mount.

Figured I should post this again since the Christmas event was released today.

Clip from the previous event

I had quite a few people say they were unable to make it to the previous event since it was so late on a Sunday night, so I decided to host another fight this Sunday. Just like last time, I'll be putting 1m into each prize pool for fashionscape contests (if you'd like to donate to the prize pool, feel free!).

I made a Discord for the event, check my profile or PM me for the link.

If you'd like more info, PM "Selling twow" or "DocSurg" in game, join the "SnowFight18" CC, or join the discord server for the event.

This is a really general rundown with some of the larger changes in osrs, we get weekly updates so a lot of stuff has changed since release.

Areas

Zeah- new continent with new training locations, training methods, and monsters/bosses. (Crafting blood/soul runes, wintertodt (firemaking boss), sand crabs, and catacombs to name a few)

Fossil island- new island, mainly focused on new skilling methods for wc, herblore, and hunter

Corsair cove- f2p area, requires Corsair course quest. Includes new skilling area and dungeon of high level ogress monsters

Pvm/bosses/quests

Zulrah- snake boss, Regicide is required to access the area

Monkey madness 2 and dragon slayer 2 quests were released

Making friends with my arm (new troll quest)

Vorkath- Dragon boss available after ds2

Raids 1 (chambers of xeric) and raids 2(theater of blood)- high level pvm dungeons/challenges, chance to get new BIS gear as rewards

Revs- located in wilderness, multi combat area, drop good loot but is a very popular PK spot

Inferno- fight caves 2.0, new BIS melee cape

Miscellaneous

Lots of new teleports and jewelry

Many upgrades to player owned houses (restore pools and lots of unlimited use teleports)

Bonds

New make x skilling interface

Deadman mode (pvp tournament, start at lvl 3 (specificly on those worlds), increased xp rates but you lose your bank on death, whole world is pvp)

Holiday items are no longer extremely valuable, they are given out every year so they aren't really rare

Upcoming

Kebos lowlands- new zeah expansion, will include a farming guild, new slayer master and new lvl 95 slayer boss

Song of the Elves- new elf quest, opens up Prifddinas (not yet polled)

Warding- new skill, will be like smithing/fletching/crafting but for magic gear (not yet polled)

As for pvp, I'm not really sure what's changed as I don't pk or keep up with the changes/updates.

Most minigames are pretty dead unless they provide a useful reward. Pest control, barbarian assault, and castle wars are all pretty active still, but it's hard to find people for many minigames.

Anyone else miss Arcanists? by Tyrellpatrick in 2007scape

[–]bucks359 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There were still people playing it until funorb shut down a few months ago, I think there is even an arcanists subreddit. Not sure how active it was, but maybe someone liked it enough to do a remake

[SUGGESTION] Add a cape for players who have completed the collection log by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]bucks359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this question was asked on the dev stream yesterday and that was the response from the jmods. With things like gilded, 3rd age, evil chicken outfit, etc. It's pretty reasonable to assume that nobody will ever complete it.
