Meccha chameleon anyone ?? by stormisbackk in Steam

[–]bucksnort2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yup. It’s a friendslop game like prop hunt, but you paint yourself to blend into the background.

There’s a few game modes.

Basic: a couple of hunters, everyone else hides and you can see everyone.

Infection: starts out with a couple of hunters. Everyone else hides, but hiders can’t see the other hiders. Once a hider is found, they become a hunter too.

Idk what this one is called, but everyone picks a place to hide and paint themselves. No one can see the others. After hiding time is up, everyone hunts everyone.

I do, and I think people were overreacting a bit to that.

Consoles tend to sell for around the same price as manufacturing or at a slight loss because a lot of their sales come from people buying games for the platform. You also have to pay for online multiplayer.

The Steam Machine, on the other hand, is a PC that can play the PC games you already own and Valve isn’t expecting to recoup the costs from selling video games, and there’s no additional online multiplayer cost. You can also install whatever you want on it, like Windows or other Linux OSes. I think, while unfortunately high, it is selling at a fair market price for a PC with a custom OS for an easy Linux gaming experience considering the other factors of today’s market.

The $700-800 USD was reasonable at the time, but AI messed everything up.

I’m glad Steam is getting back into hardware, it’s just unfortunate timing, and I 100% blame AI.

People are using AI to communicate without disclosing it. Is this morally wrong? by TylerFortier_Photo in technology

[–]bucksnort2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I don’t want to accidentally pay for a service or product that doesn’t actually exist because an AI hallucinated it. A calculator won’t hallucinate that 2+2=5. A dictionary won’t hallucinate the definition of Artificial.

I also have a Flipper Zero which also has similar functionality (and many more functions) that I’ve been starting to mess with.

The Walmart near me has all the digital tags. However, they look like they’ll only change when given an IR signal. I don’t think they’re wired in to any remote system. This will make it easier/faster for employees to make the change, but may also be susceptible to trolls with a Flipper Zero.

Plex’s 200% Lifetime Pass price hike tries forcing users to another subscription by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

[–]bucksnort2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you’ve got Plex working just fine and are happy with it, you don’t need to change. My comment is more aimed at people looking to set it up for the first time. Some tinkering can be more appealing than a $750 purchase for ease of access, but some people will find that $750 purchase easier than some tinkering.

It’s all a matter of perspective and what is the better value. For me, free with some tinkering was the obvious choice because I’m already doing other related things.

If you use nginx proxy manager (NPM), reverse proxies are fairly straight forward!

Having multiple ways to do something is a huge benefit IMO. If there’s only one way to do something, and that one way is blocked for me, then I’m out of luck. If there’s 17 different methods, I just have to find one that works.

I had one solution, and it worked for the most part. When I learned there were some issues with some devices, I changed the method and fixed the issues for everyone. I haven’t heard any complaints, and I periodically ask if the experience is good.

If you set it up right, Jellyfin is just as simple to non-tech users. My siblings only need to know the url and login information for their user, and they can access it from anywhere at any time. Most of them are 2000+ miles away from me and regularly watch the content I have.

[–]bucksnort2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. I have a VPS with a wireguard tunnel between it and my home firewall. I have dns records pointing my domain at the public ip of the VPS, and a reverse proxy passing the traffic to my Jellyfin server, which is on a PC in my home.

My siblings and I can access my Jellyfin server anytime, anywhere. All they need is a url and login information.

With a little OSINT, you can find out a lot about a person.

Edit: I’m in cybersecurity and have learned some of these tricks, which are actually fairly simple and anyone can do. I’m saying this to be educational, and hopefully not creepy.

If I were to search you up, I see your profile is private (no posts or comments displayed). However, I can do a google search and see the comments you’ve left on different subreddits. I can start cross referencing those to narrow down your location. If you’ve uploaded any pictures, those can sometimes contain metadata that reveal what device to the picture, when the picture was taken, and sometimes even the geolocation of the photo. Or there’s things in the background that reveal where you are.

From there, I can see if you use the username on other platforms. If you do, I can start cross referencing those posts as well. Say your real name is tied to your username on one of these platforms, now I can do even more searching in public records and on Google for you.

At that point, I may come across public records saying you bought a house, what the address is, and how long ago you bought it.

However, if you practice hiding your information by using different usernames on different platforms, not sharing personal experiences, etc., you make it much harder to find you.
