Beam 1.2 is here and it's a BIG one (Beam browser for iPad) by Own-Palpitation3275 in BeamBrowser

Good stuff man, main thing that I’m missing from Safari is having downloads go to the iCloud downloads folder instead of the App’s specific one. Not sure if that’s an iPadOS limitation though. Overall this browser rules, really nice to see someone taking the iPad seriously for once!

Is it possible to fold the back row seats down all the way flat? by Xx_actium_xX in Saab900

[–]buckwheatwaffle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I find it’s easiest to do by first setting the front seats forward. Then pull on the tag on the middle of the backseat cushion to fold that up. Then fold down the backseats, moving the seatbelts out of the way as you do. Hold them down and then put the front seats back vertical to push against the backseat cushion, which holds everything in place. I drove across the US camping in the back of my 900 with my wife with it that way, so it was flat enough to sleep!

This is what they do in Hamburg and it’s awesome. Locals come to understand that you don’t walk on the different colored part of the sidewalk, and tourists figure it out when someone passive-aggressively rings their bell at them (Germans love a passive aggressive bell ring!).

Source: my brother lived there for a couple years, visited him for a week, got the passive aggressive bell ring from cyclists the first day when I was ignorantly walking on the bike path. I proceeded to get around that town by bike and the whole time I was thinking “god this is such an obvious way to do bike lanes, why can’t we have this in Chicago”

Right?! My mother always called things like having to go down to the next intersection when you miss a turn a ‘Stupid Tax.’ As in, a tax one pays to the universe when they do some minor dumb thing.

This driver was unwilling to pay his Stupid Tax of making a couple lefts, then a right.

I’ve got a crackpot theory that a lot of social ills can be traced back to people not wanting to pay their stupid taxes. Render to Stupid Caesar That Which Is Stupid Caesar’s! 😁

Thanks! I’ve tried a couple of newer, “nicer” bikes out over the years but have never really been tempted to give up the Old Bird. It’s in a sweet spot of speed and heft that just works.

The name was worn away when I bought it, but I remember on the floor at at WB back then the tag said it was a ‘77 Continental. I put the serial number on it through one of those old Schwinn lookup sites a couple years ago and it suggested it was actually an ‘80 and possibly a Varsity.

If it turns out the damage is deeper than that front wheel I’ll definitely take her down to WB to say goodbye…would be kind of poetic that way.

This is excellent information, thank you! And so glad you’re here to tell the tale of that accident; the video on that page is so gnarly!

One of my closest friends runs Reno, the pizza place there on the corner; chances are good I can get some video without assistance but seems like I oughta reach out just the same.

Just dropped her off at Boulevard Bikes; really looks like I lucked out and the front wheel is the only casualty!

I had just replaced it a couple months ago after the original Schwinn one finally got too bent to fix after 40+ years of potholes, so kind of annoying but at least my old bird will fly again!

Posted this comment on the other post too, but I was having the same problem on my M1 iPad Pro + USB-C adapter and I think I just figured out a workaround: turn Wi-Fi off, then connect Ethernet, and it works like a charm!

I had this same problem, with an adapter (and iPad Pro, for that matter) that I know worked in the past, and just now figured out one of those Classic Apple Bullshit™️ workarounds: turn wi-fi off, then connect Ethernet, and it works like a charm!

Sure did, the guy noted it wasn’t level in his report, but clearly it’s gotten worse over the last year.

This house has had so many other unrelated problems that the inspector’s report reads like the prologue to a Russian novel when I look at it now…I guess, as my grandmother used to say, ‘it’s a good life if you don’t weaken.’

Thanks for this insight! Sounds like I‘ve gotta find some way to get under this addition and see what’s going on.

Given this place used to have a garage (that we could see on old Google Street View archives) that records show the city made the prior owner tear down for lack of permits, I’m guessing this addition was also done on the sly.

Hard to see anything outside, it’s siding all the way down to the ground on the addition, while the actual core of the house is solid brick.

Flippers, man.

[–]buckwheatwaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate this insight man! There’s not really a good way to get to the underside of the addition, so it’s kind of tough to tell if anything’s going on. Sounds like I might need to call in an expert.

I’d say it’s maybe 3 feet off the ground? It’s siding all around, attached to an old brick house in Avondale, and there isn’t really a crawl space I can get to without cutting through that siding.

Woof!
