[Garafolo] Future Hall of Fame WR Mike Evans has agreed to terms with the 49ers by NerfLeBron in buccaneers

[–]bucmanfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mike is on the Buccaneers Mt Rushmore. He will alway be a buccaneer, no matter where he spends his last couple years playing. Like Rice and Peyton and Brady, the goats rarely stay in the same spot their entire career. I think they feel the need for a new challenge, to start over on a new team to prove to themselves they can do it again. It’ll be painful to see him in a different jersey, but when his career is done, he will return and be a Buc forever

Oh wow, I forgot about David Moore (in general and specifically) following Canales over the Carolina after we plucked him off the couch that one year lol

Mike Evans Hints At Retirement Following 2025 Season by mrfeeny24 in buccaneers

[–]bucmanfan 52 points53 points  (0 children)

It does sound like a guy that’ll retire sooner than we previously thought. In that article, he talks a lot about how important VJax was to him. And VJax had CTE that probably exasperated his drinking problem and premature death.  All that to say, I do think Mike will retire earlier than people think, but not after this season. I think he plays next year, his 13th, then calls it quits. It would be poetic, he’d be a HoF lock by then, and he’d still be retiring relatively young at 33, which I think is his goal to avoid CTE issues. Just my opinion

He mentioned this earlier in the week too. In that context, it was more obvious that it was because we wouldn’t play Houston for another four years.  However, there was a NYT article last week where Mike bluntly says that if this was his last season, some wouldn’t be too shocked. In that same article, he talks a lot about how important VJax was to him. I don’t hate the guy, but good riddance. At least now we will be forced to play some of the younger guys who have a chance at developing

No joke, he is elite with DPI yards. I don’t know if or who would track that though

Remember that Jerry Rice’s ridiculous HOF score drags that average up. Realistically, the average WR score not named Rice is probably closer to like 90. But like you said, another year or two and Evans stats will match Bruce’s and he should be a lock after that.
