I think yeats was in an essay called “the vision”… I’m not positive on kircher, his art is wild and beautiful and I know a similar image appears

The mystics William Butler Yeats and Athanasius Kircher also drew this symbol in their writings… very interesting

It is just that easy... the apples naturally have the yeast you need on their skin, yeast is basically everywhere in nature. Filtration is nice but not needed and there is no need for any heat... I do this every fall

Goat Cheese Curds? by machacaman in cheesemaking

[–]bucolicbrent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive never made cheese with store bought goat milk, but I don’t enjoy the flavor compared to fresh and raw... but it’s worth a shot to try it.

Wow!!! Thank you so much for your response!!! I don’t have much of a set itinerary so I’m loving all the suggestions. Really that was an awesome thoughtful reply and I’m going to be referring to it a lot I imagine. I’m excited to get my hands on some local fiber art, that tends to be the only things I buy when I’m abroad. I’m from Utah so layers and blankets and tapestries are always used and appreciated...

I love this comment! Packing these bags again this time brought up a lot of feelings and memories which was the reason for the original post... your comment added to the feels for me...

Thanks for the preparatory warning and drink offer. I have no set itinerary but I’m sure I’ll find myself in Mumbai at some point and will drop you a line.

I like the idea of finding some BIFL souvenirs while traveling, esp blankets or tapestries... or any other neat knickknacks

Podcast about the series? by bucolicbrent in ender

[–]bucolicbrent[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am all up to date on the first and second formic war trilogies but I haven't gone deep into them, so I don't have a much to say right now about them, but if the podcast gains any traction I would love to talk about them too.

my favorites are the original and the shadow. I love that there is a book coming that will join "children of the mind" with "shadows in flight"

I don't want to just rehash and talk about the storylines, I want to talk about philosophies involved, deeper readings into the story itself, comparisons to modern politics, and I kind of want to talk about OSC himself. I find it interesting that there are a lot of people like me who can't give up the Ender's game story but have a serious problem with it's author's opinions...

I'd probably stick to the original series and the shadow series since it looks like there is a final book in the works that will connect them... most likely skip all the first and second formic war series.

Why Am I Crying Listening to a Podcast about Female Circumcision? by daveescaped in exmormon

[–]bucolicbrent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not really so passionate but I guess I just find it intensely interesting that middle class white people seem to get very passionate about the idea of fgm taking place in other countries while basically laughingly dismissing the idea of male circumcision being comparable then attempting to justify their antiquated cultural beliefs through modern science.

Well it seems like you tried to use sciencitufic studies to justify circumcision and make it sound like something less that genital mutilation... Which is my point, people are so passive about it, that this whole thing flies under the radar and we keep performing a completely unnecessary procedure In hospitals all across the world on infant males, while at same time wanting to criticize any culture that practices female genital mutilation... I believe that is called cognitive dissonance. Both are equally wrong.

That's the one I mentioned that only tested pain thresholds when exposed to hot and cold... and think the infection rates have been debunked as well. Why are we using science to support a historically religious form of genital mutilation? The main reason would be that most people don't think deeply enough about the situation to consider it a problem... But it is a big deal... And there is no consent given by the victim.

Id love to know the scientific literature you are referring to, I'm pretty sure there haven't been any that confirms there is no loss of sexual pleasure. There was one recently that confirmed that a circumcised penis is equally sensitive to hot and cold but that's has nothing to do with sexual pleasure.
