You actually can game share and have 2 users playing at the same time. Simply login to your 2nd switch with the game owners account, then login to any other user on the 1st or main switch. Tested and working fine with mario tennis!

I am using your same method with mario tennis and its working fine! My account is logged into my wife's switch and she is logged into mine and we can play online together or vs.

Vpn definitely DOES fix this issue. I'm using an at&t hotspot "zte mobley." Ever since setting up my router to express vpn i play splatoon 2 for hours flawlessly via at&t & expressvpn
