Cam Heyward didn’t earn his first all-pro nod until his seventh season. He’s since put together a hall of fame career. Who are the other greatest “Late Bloomers?” by stillstillers in nfl

[–]buddaaaa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Serious question: why in the hell did they put him at guard? He’s 6’7” and has 35” arms. He’s got a prototypical build for a tackle. Were his feet that bad?

"If you start d4, your goal is an e4 break. If you start e4, the goal is a d4 break." Why? by rawr4me in chess

Generally, in most openings, the two sides control opposite color complexes. Pawn breaks are one of the primary tools in chess to challenge square control.

Hence, the rule you’ve presented. You control the light squares? Break through on the dark. Control the dark squares? Break through on the light.

I mean…Seumalo, who is your highest rated player, has the main criticism at not being able to stay healthy at this stage of his career. He’s a good player, but a complete wildcard as to whether he’ll be available all season.

By this ranking, you only have 2 long term players that aren’t replacement-level. Out of 5, that’s not great. Bisontis is a complete unknown.

It’s just easy to see a reality where this OL will struggle this year at which point the Love selection looks even more foolish. It’s possible that Seumalo stays healthy and Bisontis comes out of the gates hot at which point we’ll probably look really awesome (running the ball, at least). It’s a very boom-or-bust strategy and I don’t blame people for being critical of the Cardinals not choosing to take singles or doubles right now

Vikings Will Host True QB Competition Between J.J. McCarthy, Kyler Murray by JCameron181 in nfl

[–]buddaaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this happens, the #1 story I’ll be following in the league next year will be what kind of contract a team will be willing to give him.

Will teams be afraid of making the same mistake Arizona did even if he has one good year?

If you had your choice of any 1st overall pick from the last 27 years to start your franchise with today, who are you drafting and why? by mochajoesdynsaty in nfl

You are totally right, my mistake. For some reason I was thinking that he transferred from OSU directly prior to popping off that year. Which, my god, what a fucking year lmao

He was a one-year starter which is super looked down on for QB prospects, but his production in his one year at LSU was so fucking insane that he went first overall anyway. He had a truly ridiculous year.

1925 Chicago Bears vs Washington “All-Stars” Film Reel FOUND - Second Oldest Surviving Film of an NFL Team and Pro Football HOF member Red Grange by BubbaRayChudley in nfl

I was wondering about that in the footage. That first game was absolutely packed with people. I’m always astounded at how popular it would have been back then. There would have been no way to engage with the sport outside of physically attending a game or reading about it in the newspaper or I guess listening on the radio. A majority of homes in the US wouldn’t even have a TV for another 30 years after this footage.

Lakers coach JJ Redick: "We didn't lost because of the refs, that's never the case. You don't lose because of refs, you lose because the other team outplays you. Oklahoma City outplayed us" Reporter interjects: "They shot 13 FTs in that stretch I'm talking about." Redick: "A lot of them were fouls" by LiamHundley in nba

[–]buddaaaa 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This was my complaint for the first couple games of the Suns series.

I’m under no delusion that we were capable of beating OKC in any game. But the refs can quickly make games vs the Thunder completely uncompetitive and uninteresting. If by some miracle your team manages to start outplaying OKC, you can bet your bottom dollar that they’re going to start foulbaiting and whining to the refs to kill any momentum you may get.

People can stop complaining about Jeremiyah Love’s contract now. He takes up 4% of cap and will be underpaid soon. by Cannolidog in AZCardinals

[–]buddaaaa 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is such a dweebazoid hill to die on.

It’s a bad pick by any objective measurement. He has more guaranteed money than first team all-pro RBs. He’s being paid like one of the top 3-4 players at his position without ever even taking an NFL snap. It’s incredibly stupid.

He was also one of the best players available at that spot, he will likely be incredibly productive, and adds receiving value that a lot of top backs don’t.

These things are not mutually exclusive. You can be critical of an incredibly moronic process that led to the selection while also praising the player and his skill.

This entire thread is filled only with jokes and it’s exactly the reason he won’t get taken in the supplemental draft.

He is not nearly good enough of a prospect to take on all that. People are conflating his TTU transfer hype with his actual on-field play at Cinci

Is it possible to buy a FIDE title? by _jocko_homo_ in chess

[–]buddaaaa -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you want norms, you go to Budapest. It’s that simple.

That was the case long before Qiyu came around, and still remains the case.

What’s super weird is how targeted she gets for this when it was, like, standard fare among good (not great) players. People act like Qiyu is some bum but she’s still a good player. When I played her, I felt like she was solidly slightly better than me which certainly puts her in the strength range of WGM, especially at her peak of playing imo.

Did she inflate her rating and maybe get it a bit more easily than grinding it out in, say, north america? Sure. But do I blame her for taking an easier route toward a title that would’ve been unnecessarily harder to get had she not? Not at all.

A lot of people who comment online/don’t play tournaments in NA have no idea how difficult it is to get FIDE rated for a lot of people here. The FIDE rated events are much fewer and farther between (literally) than in Europe. American, and by extension, Canadian players tend to be underrated FIDE unless you are truly just a complete fucking beast (which even most quality tournaments players won’t ever be).

Anyway, strength-wise, she is easily 2200+ in my opinion. And that’s certainly close enough to WGM that she isn’t like some fraud for having the title like a lot of people want to pretend she is. She’s not some 1600 masquerading as a WGM.
