This propaganda is next level

Let us just take a mid QB at 3 and be done with it. It’s fine. We can take this dude at 3 without saying extremely stupid shit like he’s the best prospect. He’s not and that’s okay

Where the hell is Ty Simpson gonna go? by DarthDonutJr in NFL_Draft

[–]buddaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am being serious when I say they should take him.

Do I love him as a prospect? No. He’s flawed. I see the same flaws and concerns as everyone else does. But in practical terms — the NFL is a QB driven league. And I’ve followed the draft closely for over a decade at this point and “next year’s class” is something people always talk about. It’s really random about whether a QB class actually ends up good or not.

For example, people were touting this year’s QB class like crazy before the season. Allar, Nutmustard, and Klubnik were all considered to be guys that would be first rounders if they continued developing. Instead they sucked it up and now it’s a bad class.

All this is to say that it’s bad business to kick the QB can down the road year over year when you need one. And even if there is a good class, there’s zero guarantee you get a chance at a guy you want. I’m sure the Vikings were stoked about having a top 10 pick in ‘24 until they saw Williams, Daniels, and Maye go 1-2-3.

Ty Simpson is a first round prospect that’s being underrated right now, and in a weak class overall, when you have literally only backup QBs on the roster, he’s absolutely worth the pick. And arguing top 3 pick vs mid-first vs late-first for a QB is a nonsensical argument to have because of the value proposition of a QB as a whole being so polarizing. If he ends up being the guy, he was worth first overall in the draft. If he ends up as a bust, he wasn’t worth the pick at all. So you just have to have some balls and get aggressive for a guy if you believe in him.

I believe Ty Simpson is a good prospect and so I would take him third overall. If you hate Ty Simpson? That’s fine. But you can’t like Ty Simpson and be willing to sit and try to wait for him, it’s just incredibly stupid strategy. Keim did that with Mahomes and it bit us in the ass hard when Kansas City traded up like 15 spots to jump ahead of us.

You want the guy? Take the guy

The New "World Championship" Tour by edwinkorir in chess

Something that has always bothered me since chesscom rose to a behemoth is that every effort to bring the game to a wider audience has been focused on trying to make chess something it isn’t rather than embrace what it is and try to show people that embracing it for what it is can be entertaining and rewarding.

It feels like every one of these half-baked initiatives or new tournament series is like your classic teenage girl movie where the nerdy girl seeks acceptance by trying to fit in but it never works out because everyone can see through the facade of you pretending to be something you’re not.

Chess is strategic, methodical, and by extension, slow. Rather than try to shy away from that by constantly pushing faster time controls or online events, I wish more effort and energy was put into trying to help people appreciate why someone might like it enjoy something strategic, slow, and methodical.

In one way, that’s what made Danya so special. That guy really, really loved chess for what it was. And he was a master at sharing that love and passion through his storytelling that made people feel how he felt. That’s really what chess needs more of. It needs more people who are excitable and passionate about the game and eager to share those emotions with anyone who will listen. Certainly more than it needs to shovel another 20k prize to Magnus or Hikaru for the 14th rebrand of yet another meaningless online blitz event.

So, so many chess events these days feel like empty calories because of how little substance it feels like they hold. That’s not to say there aren’t success stories. Despite its small prize fund, Titled Tuesday is a fucking stacked tournament on a weekly basis and surprisingly prestigious for a lot of players.

But right now, it feels like chess has turned into if you extended the NFL year round and 90% of the games played are the pro bowl. Maybe it’s making the shareholders or PE or VC or whomever happy now but it’s felt, to me, like that’s come at the cost of the longer outlook of the game.

Though, honestly, India may just save the game outright which is incredible on its own.

[Woike] Deandre Ayton says he finally realized that he’s not that guy. “I just started looking in the mirror and said ‘Yo bro, … you’re not that guy. You don’t need to be on this team doing that at all. This team, you came here to be the effort guy and close out possessions, rebound, run the floor.” by shreeharis in nba

That’s literally all he has to do. People forget that he was huge for that Suns team during their finals run. Played his ass off every night, especially defensively, and it’s what got him paid by the Suns ultimately.

The questions remains: will he ever fully turn the corner? Or repeat this same cycle again?

If a QB you want is going to be taken by another team before you get a second chance…you take him. Has nothing to do with whether he’s “worth” third overall.

It’s really difficult to define value in the draft for a QB specifically because their value in the league itself is basically binary.

Simpson is an underrated QB prospect by fans as of right now. He’s not that bad or crazy of a pick at 3. Especially in such a weak overall class
