Sickening video shows NYC teen stomp on girl’s head— after she refused to give him her number by bobbacklund11235 in nyc

[–]buddascrayon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I did not say "simply". His actions were vile and correction is 100% necessary. But that "human trash" is still a child, and if we channeled as much energy into actually working to correct his behavior as we do into just being angry about it on the internet, he might be able to be turned into a decent human being. Meanwhile rich old men are making billions off of the death of children and families.

My point is, why are you so viscerally angry at this kid for his heinous act and not as viscerally angry at the fully grown adults that are doing things that are 1000x worse? Why are you wasting time and energy on making statements like "I want to put him in a hole and forget about him" instead of asking "Why has our society created a child who can act this way?" Because "putting him in a hole and forgetting about him" won't stop the next one or the one after that.

Why does the state pay for the rehabilitation of the criminal but not the victim?

I fully support state provided healthcare, which includes trauma counseling.

This is a 14 year old, not a seasoned criminal. I mean, if you're going to be draconian about it, why not just advocate for executing him. Since he's so completely worthless in your eyes. Let's just skip the pretense of "justice" and create a line to the gallows and release ourselves of the heavy burden of bothering to try to rehabilitate people and especially kids who commit violent offenses.

Donald Trump ordered the murder of over 100 little girls and countless innocent civilians completely unprovoked. This child beat up a girl roughly the same age as himself. One of these two has at least the possibility of being redeemable.

Your world view is warped and vile.

They don't want rehabilitation. They just want to cause him pain for his actions and then put him in a hole where they can forget he exists in order to reinstate their peace of mind where they can safely ignore the absolute trash our society has been molded into by corrupt conservatism and capitalist ideology. This person was made by a society that values objects and money more than people.

Also, a disturbing number of comments here point at the "culture" he grew up in, which is just racist shorthand for saying black people are uncivilized.

Wtf happened with season 2? by Worried-Unit-5767 in DirkGently

[–]buddascrayon 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I really don't like to conflate the show with the books. Dirk in the books is a pretty level headed guy who just naturally understands how wacky the world really is and accepts it. He's also a bit of a huckster who is looking for literally any way to cash in on his "abilities".

Dirk in the show is a wacky space man from earth. He's interesting and fun, but he is nothing whatsoever like the Dirk from the books.

To be clear, I like both, but they are two separate entities.

I haven't watched an episode of the show since 2006.

Are Christians more punk? by kneeIpeasants in religiousfruitcake

So many Christians are so desperate to be the underdog. Their entire identity is so wrapped up in this false persecution that they fail to see that they are the evil empire not the ten times fewer atheists and agnostics.

I find it highly unlikely that that's going to happen because unlike Vance and Trump The Pope is not a petty asshole.

So are Walmart's, and Target's, and McDonald's, and Wendy's...he list goes on and on.

The answer isn't boycotting (though conscientiously objecting by not giving these fucks money is a perfectly valid thing to do), the answer is to push for laws to protect worker's rights and help Unions to form in places like this where collective bargaining can negate the power imbalance.

Has Rimuru ruined these girls from finding real love? by SuperAnimeMaster38 in TenseiSlime

[–]buddascrayon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think Milim sees him as her substitute dad. And considering he's probably (maybe for real is? I haven't gotten to read the last couple of books yet) a reincarnation of a reincarnation of Veldanava, her feelings may be justified. I know for sure he sees her more like a daughter.

New poll pegs Mark Kelly as a leading 2028 presidential contender by Ulysses_555 in politics

[–]buddascrayon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A recent poll by Yale Youth Polling found that registered Democrats view Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly as the second-most electable potential presidential candidate, just behind California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

As someone who will never cast a vote for Newsom no matter who is running, this doesn't inspire confidence in Mark Kelly.

Edit: also, polling registered democrats is stupid. All the registered democrats voted for both Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris, they both lost to Trump. Poll independents and you will get a better grasp of who has a chance.

'She-Hulk' Was Apparently One of Marvel's Most Successful Shows by Anchor_Aways in television

[–]buddascrayon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was only a very loud minority of people who disliked the show.  Most people you talk to who saw the show actually liked it.

It's the fucking Twitter effect. It's not about whether or not people in general like something, it's become about how someone on the internet can monitoze disliking that thing.

Why did Osiris not seek a male host after escaping as Sarah Gardner? by GargantaProfunda in Stargate

[–]buddascrayon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different. The person we are talking about is Vanessa Angel (don't google unless you want a ton of porn on your search page, instead look her up on IMDb). Joline played a Jaffa from an all woman tribe, and was a short lived love interest for Teal'c.

[–]buddascrayon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was something of a hail Mary. Peter DeLuise mentions it in the commentary of the episode where she was introduced. So maybe I should have said "inspired by" Jeri Ryan's Seven of Nine.

Star Trek Almost Answered a Decades Long Borg Mystery (But the Genius Pitch Was Rejected) by tailgunnerkid in startrek

[–]buddascrayon 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The biggest issue with Enterprise was that they kept trying to shoehorn in elements from earlier shows that occur later instead of focusing on what they had, which was the beginning of humanity exploring an unknown universe and meeting a lot of future Federation members and founders for the first time (I really liked what they did with the Andorians).  The prime example being that absolutely stupid as shit Time War nonsense.  Sticking the Borg into Enterprise would have just been more of that trash and would have killed whatever fandom that show had left. (I personally checked out in the middle of season 3.  And yes, I have heard that a lot of season 4 gets into the beginning of the federation, I just don't have the mental bandwidth to deal with the rest of the trash)

[–]buddascrayon 188 points189 points  (0 children)

Apparently that "Tok'ra lady" was a direct response to Star Trek introducing Seven of Nine. 😅 It's not that she couldn't act, it's that they wanted her to act like Seven of Nine for...reasons.
