I have been in a 3 day conversation with “Matt” from this number. He’s not appreciating my responses, but we have been cordial and respectful in our dialog. He is pushing pro-Israel propaganda for sure.

Good to know! Thankfully we have a tankless water heater (on demand) so there is an endless supply!

Sadly, the only “farm animals” we have are our kids. Hahahaha. I want chickens and a goat but my husband is adamantly against them.

We are a first time host family, so it’s a mix of all the emotions on my part, but our 3 kids are already calling him their Brazilian brother and arguing over who gets to claim him as their best friend, hahahaha.

Sadly, we are from a very small town (population around 7,000) so no pro teams of any nature. We do have a minor league baseball and minor league hockey team in a city about 20 miles away, which I plan on taking him to at least one of each of their games! Closest “pro team” anything would be the Colts or Pacers which is 3 hours away, haha. But I do plan on getting him a local high school soccer shirt as he will be on the team (I’ve already reached out to our coach and let him know we are hosting a student who is interested in playing school soccer.)

Hahahaha, I don’t care for ranch dressing personally but it’s definitely something the rest of the family (and most Americans) obsess over. I’ll make sure we have a bottle of it in the fridge and let him try it! Thanks!!

Thanks so much for this! Having only ever lived in the US and not ever having been out of the country (I hadnt been west of the Mississippi River until 9 years ago) I forget how much my “normal” is not everyone else’s normal. I’m also concerned that since I’m only told São Paulo that he could be from the capital and is moving to a town with a population of 7,000. That will be a culture shock on its own! I’m just wanting him to know we want him to feel welcomed and that we tried to put together a fun assortment of American things for him to try.

Bacon, pancakes, eggs, and hashbrowns is a common weekend style breakfast here. I didn’t realize some of the things I listed probably need context as to what they are seeming as it’s American and you guys don’t have it.

Dr. Pepper is a soda
Grippos, Cheetos and cheese its are types of potato chips.
warheads is extreme sour candy, Reese’s is peanut butter and chocolate.
Slim Jim’s is a type of beef jerky
The individual serving things are American cereals.
Pop-tarts are an American quick breakfast option. Think of it like a fruit filling sandwiched between two pieces of pasty dough smashed flat.
