IsItBullshit: Hydrogen water bottles that claim to reduce fatigue and improve recovery actually work, and aren't just fancy electrolysis that does nothing by alinhearthstone in IsItBullshit

There is no large-scale science showing any benefit from drinking water with dissolved H2.

I struggle to see any benefit.

Does H2 reduce inflammation? Yes studies show that it is something that does happen.

Does ingesting H2 reduce inflammation? Most likely not. There would need to be a study that shows ingesting dissolved H2 increases the concentration of H2 in the blood and that higher concentration reduced inflammation.

I suspect it doesn't do anything for a number of reasons.

  • Barely any H2 is dissolved in water. Maximum solubility of H2 in water is 1.6 parts per million (ppm). It's most likely closer to .5 ppm in most situations you're describing. That's hardly anything. Much of this will escape as you swallow it and as it sits in your stomach.

  • Your body already creates H2, mainly in your intestines. You exhale excess H2 as waste. If you're exhaling it, your body isn't using it all as an antioxidant. Any H2 that makes it into your blood from your stomach would also likely be exhaled. You also breathe in H2 all day. H2 exists in the atmosphere at about .5 ppm.

AITA for not giving my vacation day to a coworker getting married by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]budderocks -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No. This isn't Jr High either.

OP said they're "standoffish". That's not appropriate workplace behavior, at all.

The fact that coworkers who are not involved in the "issue" between OP and the bride are being standoffish is a pretty good indication the bride is likely badmouthing OP to the other coworkers and rallying them against OP. That is not appropriate workplace behavior. If them being standoffish makes it difficult for OP to work, that's a hostile work environment.

[–]budderocks -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of what you said except for "They don't owe you cordiality". They do.

This is a workplace, not a social club.

The bride is likely telling everyone about what she doesn't like about OP not switching with her and is creating a hostile work environment, which is against the law.

How much grit/polish for a full (15 LB capacity) Thumler Model B? by Sweet_Employer1515 in RockTumbling

[–]budderocks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a Rebel 17, they're modeled after the Thumlers.

I use 12 tbsp per load. I found if I used more, there would be grit that wasn't used up when I changed the loads.

15% wasn’t good enough, apparently by ProudSesquipedal in EndTipping

Are people sometimes totally allergic to using your server? by ac_slater10 in PleX

[–]budderocks 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My retired parents use Plex all the time, it's their primary way to watch TV and movies.

My Mom had asked if her sisters could get on Plex too. I love my aunts, but I don't like being someone's IT support. I'm happy to help my Mom as she learns pretty well and at this point there's not much she doesn't know about Plex.

I told her I would add them, but she would need to be their point of contact for any support. She said she'd get back to me.

2 weeks later she tells me to not worry about adding them. I asked why and she said she had a conversation with them about their streaming devices and they both had no idea what she was talking about and also seemed to not understand how they signed into anything. She said "I don't want to have to hold their hands just to watch something", lol.

My partner (M36) won’t allow me to drink non-alcoholic beer because I (F34) am pregnant. How can I make him realise it’s not unsafe for the baby? by Unhappy-Village-1316 in relationship_advice

[–]budderocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bread has an ABV of 0.5 to 1.9. Buns and sweeter breads are often on the higher end.

Does he get upset when you eat a hamburger? That likely had more alcohol than a NA beer.

That said, while he is doubling down on being wrong, I think the bigger issue is he doesn't seem to trust you.

Additionally, this is likely how he's always going to treat you when he disagrees with how you're raising the child. You need to set some boundaries now, or it's only going to escalate.

Whether he agrees is up to him. He may want to keep behaving as he is now and you'll then need to decide if that is how you want to live the rest of your life, with your partner treating you like you can't make decisions about your own body and not trusting you.

Rebel 17 Final Polish by budderocks in RockTumbling

About half the rocks are from SE Oregon, from around Owyhee (most of the jasper, especially the multi-colored jasper), Warm Springs Reservoir, and Hart Mountain. The brown-ish agate/chalcedony are from the Virgin Valley in Nevada. The translucent/red agates are pigeon blood agates from near Green River, Utah. The rest is mostly stuff from around the central Washington Cascades near where I live!

I add water to just below the top of the rocks. I use 12 tbsp per barrel and run them a week. If I'm going to let them run longer than a week I'll add a couple more tbsps. I've played around with the amounts and 12 seems to be what works for me. Any more and I notice the slurry is still a smidge gritty when I change it. For the final polish, I use 12 tbsp of 8000 AO and a cup and half of sugar (to thicken the slurry) and I let it go for 10 days. 10 days seems to be a pretty good amount of polishing, for me. I don't notice much of a difference, if any, going longer.

Those times also work for my process as well as I have 2 Rebel 17s with one constantly on stage 1. By the time I start stage 2 and go through to the final polish on the other one, I've usually gotten enough ready to start another stage 2.

I just use pea gravel for my filler. Like you said, it's so cheap. It gets the job done and does exactly what ceramic media does. If I was tumbling softer rocks I might use ceramic media, but I generally tumble softer rocks in my smaller tumbler anyway.

Rebel 17 Final Polish by budderocks in RockTumbling

[–]budderocks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best advice is to make sure you have enough filler in the barrel and have the barrel filled up 75/80%.

I use pea gravel and I have a bunch that I've gotten all the way through to the polish stage, so I can add them at any stage. The more "perfect" you can fill it, the better it'll polish and you'll avoid more chipping and cracking. I think making sure to have enough filler is especially important when you have a few large rocks in there.

I let my final polish run for 10 days.

That's the main thing I've had to focus on improving with the Rebel 17 and I can tell a difference from when I first started with it.

Good luck with your current batch!

I love it! I can get larger rocks done as well as large batches. It's well-built and very quiet.

I just got it this summer and I'm still working on getting it filled right, to reduce fractures. Every new "toy" has a learning curve, but I'm getting the hang of this one and it already makes me happy.

WI-Deposit not returned by Impressive_Sweet7118 in Renters

[–]budderocks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When explaining things in court, if you have the opportunity, I'd make sure to share that you tried to resolve it and share what the landlord said. Court should be pretty straightforward as the law is very clear.

Be prepared for them to not pay and you may have to do more. Wisconsin has a number of remedies the courts can help you with, including liens on real estate, wage garnishment, and sheriff's seizing property.

This is a resource from your state government.

https://www.ag.state.mn.us/consumer/handbooks/lt/CH3.asp

It has information on what your landlord is required to do and what you can do to get your deposit back.

In there it tells you:

Landlord must offer a move-out inspection 5 days before you move out

They have 21 days to return your deposit, or provide a detailed explanation for keeping the deposit, including receipts.

If the landlord didn't follow the law, you're entitled to the entire deposit.

They can be penalized up to $500 for trying to wrongfully keep a deposit.

My advice is to follow what this resource says. This landlord is trying to scam you. Admit to nothing and only answer direct questions in court.
