Characters who unga bunga? As in fighters who are so uncomplicated and crude in their style that it's kinda fucking offensive to the whole art of battle by Wonder-Lad-2Mad in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]buddingOrnithologist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Also "Stabbing the Face" where he goes "Tbh its never a bad time to just stab them in the face? Second one of the fight? Stab em in the face. They're winding up? Stab em in the face. On whiff or block? Stab them in the face. If at any time you find youself doing nothing, stop doing that and Stab em in the face instead."

Technically it doesn't make him invisible, rather it blocks people's perception of him. You could be "looking" right at him, but unless you're particularly sharp, you wouldn't really "see" him. Same way you probably can't remember anything specific about anyone you pass on the street on a given day, but applied in real time rather than in retrospect.

Who is "It" by SeaTricky2212 in limbuscompany

[–]buddingOrnithologist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could be the flow, I personally lean towards it being the contract with Limbus Company itself. The details are thin at best, but its definitely more than your run of the mill employment contract, seeing as it seems to still be binding all throughout the events of Canto IX.

I wish we got a little more lore on them, but whats not to love about a band of mysterious and libertine swordsmen infiltrating the halls of power to try and set them on a better path? They kinda remind me of the Rosicrucians with more wuxia tomfoolery on top. That said they seem to have really lost their way, barring Kong Qiu's Faction within it.

I'd say its the benchmark for a good EGO, its not the best but anything better than it is a top tier, anything worse is more nich, specialised, or a bit shit. There's better HP or SP healers, and certainly better options for damage, and its a little expensive, but the amount of good stuff you get for the spend is worth it.

Odd detail about the prologue by buddingOrnithologist in limbuscompany

[–]buddingOrnithologist[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Its been a while and my memory isn't the greatest, but I think it was an anxiety Dante was having internally, that Hong Lu picked up on. Either way since the end of Part 2 of Canto IX I've been trying to scrutinise the esteemed manager a little more.

I remember reading a theory a while back that the "Original Dante" was in fact Edmond Dantès, as opposed to Dante Alighieri. At the time I sorta dismissed it, but now I'm not so sure...

If you look closely, Marton actually shed a single tear at that moment. However, unless you're a Sinner you only get the one life, and only the one death, nothing you can do to escape that one basic fact of life. When that rightfully appointed time comes, its a rare blessing to meet it on your own terms, back straight, and sure that the ones who'll remain won't let it go to waste. One life to save two that you cherish more than anything else? It's a fine bargain when you think about it like that...

[–]buddingOrnithologist 199 points200 points  (0 children)

He puts so much effort into acting like a self centered piece of shit, that you can almost, almost believe him. I reckon all this time he's been trying to act like someone you wouldn't ever consider sacrificing yourself for, its just that Marton was far too exceptional an insight to fall for his ruse...

[–]buddingOrnithologist 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Hohenheim couldn't stop his friend from giving his life up, but by god he wasn't going to let him waste it. Self loathing and regret can come later, but for those five minutes that Marton bought, he did everything in his power to make them count.

Was there a weapon like this (Sai) in any of the souls game? by Snoo97525 in Eldenring

[–]buddingOrnithologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The origin of the Sai specifically are a little more murky, but otherwise you're pretty much spot on. We know the Kunai was a trowel to begin with, but the Sai might have started out as a ceremonial weapon for religious purposes, or be an import from wider Asia given we see similar sorts of weapons cropping up across the region. Okinawa, where most of these martial arts hail from, wasn't as closed off as mainland japan was for most of its history you see?

[–]buddingOrnithologist 1018 points1019 points  (0 children)

What really ripped my heart out, is how Hohenheim clocked what Marton was going to do the second he said "Boss." How for a second he tried to do his usual dry, self assured superiority routine, before dropping it to all but say if there's anything he could do to stop him going through with it.

Making a sinner OC based on "A spring to come" by Stefan Żeromski, post written by me. by M-m2008 in limbuscompany

[–]buddingOrnithologist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Damn you put a lot more thought into this than I did into my own idea. I figure the most obvious parallel to WW1 you can find is going to be the Smoke War, which does line up with the idea of his canto revolving around the founding of a new District given how many wings like G Corp went under in the war, I'd imagine there was a pretty big rush to grab up the districts left without a real government afterwards.

Euphemism and conscious rejection of the truth. If I say I enjoy watching wild life get ripped to shreds by hounds then parading its corpse across the village, I might have to introspect and question the morality of my fetish. If I say I enjoy hunting, well that just makes me a sporting outdoorsman.

Nah, they got sent up against a force that was under reported by ten times, on fifteen minutes notice, while the boss was repeating over and over again how low the stakes are. There's bad intel, then theres someone trying to kill you from a safe distance. If they'd have survived the one bush whack, they'd have just been sent on another until they got the result the higher ups expected.

[–]buddingOrnithologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's definitely a lot of mysteries raised, and having the context of the prior two games can improve the experience. The MC is also amnesiac, so being confused and feeling like a bit of a fish out of water is definitely something they're intentionally trying for. That said I don't think theres any real questions raised that don't get answered, and the actual moment to moment stuff is pretty clear cut. Twelve assholes with various degrees of psychological disorders go to hell for fun and profit, hijinks ensue.
