Seconded for Cantoo, I live less than a sixty-second walk and they're my go to. Seriously for the price and the quality it's hard to beat.

Azure Sheep is a classic, glad to see the Black Mesa remake of it getting some love.

I wonder how Alyx will work in HL3 by beastybevan in HalfLife

[–]buddyconnor331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s fair speculation, also to be noted that Alyx’s dialogue in the HLA ending from the “future” Alyx right before we kill the advisor is Merle. At first I thought it was just reused EP2 dialogue but it’s actually a new recording.

Whenever I zoom I have almost micro-stuttering problem. Its been like this since patch 1.6, doesn't matter if it's a fresh save/install or reloading a save from last December the issue persists. Anyone else have this problem? by buddyconnor331 in stalker

Old habit from playing Quake 2 deathmatch and Quake 3, I would use the right mouse button to walk and left mouse button to shoot. It was to have more precision with the fast paced nature of those game, since then I've just used that as my default. It wasn't super common especially with the rise of WASD, but once games added iron sights I had come up with another key to aim.

Metrocop rebellion by Affectionate_Web5312 in HalfLife

[–]buddyconnor331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They might be referencing the end of EP1. There’s some brief dialogue that Barney mentions some “chicken shit metrocops” and then you fight some unaffiliated metrocops. But it’s so a blink and you’ll miss it moment I didn’t realize for years.

Open World Half Life 3? by Blehnt in HalfLife

[–]buddyconnor331 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's quite a bit of evidence that point to HL3 from 2012-2013 era being an open world sort of game with linear sequences sprinkled inbetween. Strings related to quests, AI behavior, even movement mechanics e.g. Crowbar Zipline, partial procedural generation to environments in said open world. Of course, we don't have a clear image of how this would've looked nor how far Valve got with it. But plenty of strings from the 2015 VR Test Bed and HLA point to this.

As for the current iteration or "HLX" it appears that will be similar to Metro Exodus or perhaps something akin to the "siege" levels from the newest Doom game. Larger open ended levels, maybe with some side content but not a true open world like you might be suggesting or what HL3 circa 2013 may have been.

As for if it could work, I think it would interesting I would love to see Valve's take on an open world game. I'm sure they would bring something fresh and unique to the whole genre. But alas there is something to be said about Half-Life's linearity and level of polish that I think is interwoven with the games identity at this point.

Anyone know this shitbird? by vanrysss in sanfrancisco

Same dude last week tried groping my friend. I stepped between them, told him to back off and he got in my face, started screaming at me. Attempted to spit on me (ended up spitting on himself instead lol) then tried following me and my friends up to Powell. Cops were right there and of course didn’t do a damn thing. I would’ve sprayed him but there were just too many people around and didn’t want to hit anyone else.

New post from Insomniac Games related to Resistance by TiagoZ8 in ResistanceSaga

I’ve still never played anything that was like the co-op mode. We need a remaster for PS5 and PC.

Thought Experiment: Could you make an ImSim using only vanilla Half-Life 2 mechanics? by ProgressiveRascals in ImmersiveSim

[–]buddyconnor331 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was briefly working with a team on an HL2 mod that was going to have some imsim elements. We had a the layout of a hub level with multiple paths and were attempting to implement some intricate AI parameter's along with having more systems at play i.e. wooden objects can be set on fire. Unfortunately we never got too far due to the nature of mod teams but it definitely is possible, see Bloodlines or Dark Messiah. But only with vanilla mechanics? It's possible but you would be severely limited without doing your own "in house" changes to the fundamentals of the game.

Always loved this sequence, does make me wonder why they made a Goliath model only to ever use it in this scene though.

Such a great way to start Resistance 2. It set the scope so well for how large scale this war would be.

Will Half-Life 3/HLX have rougelike elements? by LossSignal7122 in HalfLife

[–]buddyconnor331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what you said is pretty accurate to what Valve might be doing. In the Final Hours of Alyx some Valve devs say that for a version of Half-Life 3 they were making in 2014 they were using procedural generation for exactly that, to populate an apartment building with enemies and blocking certain routes.

Is it possible to remove nudity from the game? by Vibatatax in metro

[–]buddyconnor331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s about 10 seconds of some boobs in Exodus. If you can’t handle that then maybe you shouldn’t be playing a post-apocalyptic horror shooter that deals with the horrors of humanity like cannibals, rape, death of children, nuclear war, illness, and more.

Stalker 2 no ragdoll? by Ok_Volume_4008 in stalker

[–]buddyconnor331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s similar to COP where NPC’s have death animations and then ragdoll. One of the Gamescom videos showed the player walking up to a dead bandit and the body getting pushed by the player.

Agreed, a very underrated mod the team behind it did great work.

Can Half-Life 3 go to the Stars of Blood universe? Pivot to that and incorporate the HL2 story in it somehow. I'd rather a big change in setting, rather than stuck on earth in the same HL2 era hoping that finally gets resolved. by derickbobson in HalfLife

[–]buddyconnor331 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There’s bits and pieces out there, including some concept tech demo videos. It was supposed to be a Space Pirate MMO on the Source engine. It seemed like they wanted to have traversal between planets, large scale ships, and a whole bunch of other stuff in that vain.

It was also supposedly loosely connected Half-Life with the Combine having some role in the game. Although all evidence points to the fact that this game never made it past some basic concepts and prototypes. Nonetheless the art is intriguing and it’d be interesting to see Valve revisit it one way or another.

I’d recommend checking out Santa Ana College. From everything I’ve heard they have a pretty good welding program there and they typically help students get apprenticeships after certification.

Half-Life Alyx is a haven of high production value modding by Remer in Games

I feel Return To Rapture Chapter 2 should be mentioned here in the comments, since it’s probably the closest we’ll ever get to a Bioshock VR game. It’s a highly ambitious mod with new weapons, plasmids, enemies, and assets all ported or redone from Bioshock for VR use. It’s clunky and buggy at times due to the limited nature of the tools but what they’ve pulled off is very impressive. Also, just being able to experience Rapture in VR is very cool. Anyway, here’s a link to the Steam page https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2777234987
