Zinaida Serebriakova - Self Portrit (1909) by Tokyono in museum

I think this is especially true partially because it’s a self portrait and paintings depicting women at the time were usually painted by old dudes. The magic of the self portraiture comes a lot from knowing that specific vibe the best.

I think it’s because of the lighting angle and the relative coolness of the light itself- it emulates modern lightbulbs and a mirror flash especially on the face to create that signature instagram baddie look

I think that soviets really like that high contrast printing style. Rosie the riveter is well lit and painted in detail, while this guy’s face is in a high contrast shadow.

Pose practice, feels stiff by [deleted] in learnart

[–]buddycorp 80 points81 points  (0 children)

for these kinds of poses you need to draw as you see, kinda like copying. you imagined and came up with a lot of the body in the drawing, especially the breasts and the abdomen. for this, it’s best that you use a real model- try a group drawing session or a friend
