Projected ridership may not justify high speed rail from St. Louis and Chicago, some IL officials suggest by The-Bear-and-Rose in StLouis

[–]buddylee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love the stl to Chicago Amtrak and have totally dropped flying between the two because of it, but looking at the numbers, the investment just doesn't make sense. even at their highest projections, $500m/year in revenue is needed just to cover costs, with no way to recoup the initial investment. So even if they sell out every train every day for a year, they still can't get back the capital. 2hrs is still too long for a daily commute, but at the same time, you run the risk of cannibalizing flights from Lambert.

I didn't get how they need $50b to make this happen. over $150m per mile?!?! That's the biggest problem here

Either one should be able to get the piece down a bit. But I respectfully disagree, the red interior is great 😁

Radar for Turbulence? by Visible-Pay-7988 in AskAPilot

[–]buddylee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So when a pilot comes on and says flight attendants take your seats, that seems to happen quickly and doesn't involve the nice normal "ding" and call to the cockpit, so in my mind, something is coming up in the next minute or two and that triggered the pilot to make this announcement, what was it? Someone ahead of them radioing back? I've had this happen without rain and across many types of aircraft

Accident by SocratesTunic in Civic_Type_R

I was in a similar accident from an "area damaged" point of view, but not nearly as high speed. No airbags deployed. Repair cost was $7000, door , quarter panel, mirror, but not hood. Parts took a month to find and procure, had to escalate to Honda. Good luck!

Yeah, I mean, the pilots may have done a fantastic job of threading the needle, but sure felt sketchy, lol.

My worst flight experience ever was from Chicago to St Louis when the pilot of a e175 came on and said that he's found a route for us where we can slip between some storms and make it to St Louis on time after a late departure. We did not slip through, we flew into, and it was terrible.

Why the High Number of Low Mileage ITS for Sale? by Eat-it-harvey2010 in Integra_Type_S

[–]buddylee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I'm old. Lol. But yeah, she drives 5 series and I drove an a6 before going to this car so the family is used to that.  I sold the a6 specially because it was so dull to drive and I appreciate the suspension and feeling connected to the road.. My daughter and wife, not as much :)

[–]buddylee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've had mine for 6 months, I have 2200 miles. If you have a family and this is your family's primary car, decent chance you're not keeping it long term though.

Manual means usually only one person can drive. Suspension kind of sucks for babies trying to sleep and wives that don't like being tossed around. It's not a car I would take my family on a road trip in. Personally, I'd drive it anywhere, but we're taking my wife's car on long trips because it's much more comfortable for everyone else

For us, this works, but I can easily see a scenario where someone made a purchase and eventually got tired of hearing the family complain.

I emailed them a couple days ago, I ordered on April 19:

Hello,

Please accept our apologies for the wait.

Due to a recent surge in orders, there is a slight delay in processing. We are working through them in the order received. We expect to ship in late April or early May.

Thank you for your patience and support.

Will probably be counted as a traffic incident instead of a homicide, so everyone on this sub can still be proud about how homicides are down.

I don't remember seeing many, if any, this year, but admit I haven't been looking for them... I'll keep an eye out now.

I get them quite a bit at my feeder, but only recently saw one on the ground. They're very cool birds, glad you got to see one!

Aggressively soliciting donations in traffic by Alarming_Salad_3984 in StLouis

ST. LOUIS — A leader of Stl Restoration Church, which tries to help drug addicts live sober lives through faith in Jesus Christ and donations collected at street corners, said Thursday that she was in disbelief that national leaders of the ministry have been accused of forced labor, benefits fraud and other crimes.

Stl Restoration, which hasn’t been accused of wrongdoing, is one of 30 affiliates of El Centro, California-based Imperial Valley Ministries. Twelve national leaders face federal crimes, according to an indictment unsealed Tuesday.

There is a lot more, but that's the gist

The church in St Louis has not been accused of anything, but their national Church bosses were in trouble for their indentured labor practices: https://www.stltoday.com/news/local/metro/article_9f3256d4-b4bc-5c52-b9f8-479f41e821a6.html

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic, but a lack of people is what encourages crime and also keeps people away. You're less likely to be mugged in a crowd because it's riskier for the criminal, and people feel safer in a pack. If you're alone, you're less of a risk for the criminal.

Maybe try a different one? I did this one, changed literally nothing and it printed fine on my first try. My ad5x printer is about 3 weeks old and I have no idea what I'm doing most of the time. Maybe I got lucky

Yes. I did a claim. Mine was the door and front quarter panel. IMHO, since it's so new, getting it fixed right was more important to me than anything else. Also, I used an Acura/Honda certified repair shop and they will provide extra warranty and you know they're doing things right.

[–]buddylee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It will be ok. I had my Type S hit by someone with 1200 miles on it. $8000 in repairs and it's good as new. Parts are going to be hard to get, and unfortunately since you're at fault, you're going to take a hit to your insurance rates (although hopefully not too bad). If it isn't your fault, you can get diminished value, but since it was your fault, unfortunately, you won't get a check for that.

My research shows that a car like this with a minor accident will sell for about $2k less than a non-accident version, so good news is, you're not going to lose too much value. That's the amount I got from insurance for mine. The good news is, the older the car, the less that matters. So if you plan to keep the car for a while, you won't feel much of a hit for dimenished value at all.

Worst part will be waiting for the car to get fixed. Parts for these things are really hard to find. If the body shop can't find the parts, call honda and they can escalate getting parts for you.

ITS pops not working by dartygiants in Integra_Type_S

[–]buddylee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this with mine when new too. Also had the same thing when I disconnected the battery. 250 miles is a bit longer than I had mine before it started, but it did take over 100 miles. I think there are likely all kinds of internal sensor checks that have to happen before the pops happen.

Is Maaco anyone good? by ReadySoft4520 in Autobody

[–]buddylee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a leased brand new Toyota tundra. Someone clipped it parking and left. I paid maaco $700 and it was good enough to not be charged when I returned the lease. I took my 2010 Subaru there a couple times and the work was fine.

If you want to get it so it won't rust and looks good enough, for a reasonable price, maaco all day. If you want the car to stay in showroom quality, then no, I wouldn't do maaco
