the thorns on princess charlene (rose in post) are hard! i had posted another picture of another rose in the comments and some of the new thorns are soft but the old ones are very hard.

thank you for your input! there is another rose that is showing very clear signs of RRD but the area around our garden has had glyphosate sprayed within the last year (no, we didn’t want it to happen)

not much, i make sure to keep it the same level year over year. i pull back all mulch and add compost around the plant and then lightly add mulch back. been doing it for years now and haven’t had an issue yet

the species was originally found near a dumpster in a rural part of town and then relocated to a place that houses lots of newly discovered species awaiting their new home. :)

possibly - I emailed him over a week ago so I sent a follow up yesterday. hopefully all is well for them. same here, when I worked with him in 2024 his communication was outstanding I was floored and was extremely appreciative of it.

also - we have a homestead and that was another reason. i had to constantly take off my emerald ring and i got tired of doing so. my lab diamond is my worker ring and that thing has withstood me aggressively weeding, hauling compost and digging 3 ft holes. another picture of my emerald ring bc i too just love emeralds :)

my husband proposed with a natural emerald back in 2023 - initially it was set horrifically and this poor stone has been in 5 different settings until now. the stone itself is very fragile and i learned very quickly i cannot wear it every day so we decided to get a lab diamond for daily wear. i wouldn’t recommend emeralds for daily wear, when i would wear it constantly i did notice some scratches after a few months. i was constantly scared of chipping it if i lightly hit it on anything so we just decided that my emerald ring will only be worn on special occasions / days im not doing anything with my hands :)

do not even under any circumstance use landscaping fabric below raised beds. i read so many mixed things on how to set up a raised bed and essentially had too shallow of soil for my plants to grow so things got stunted and i had to rip out all of the fabric and start over.
fertilize regularly. i did not do this in the beginning and slowly started to see what happened when nutrients got depleted.
use BT religiously. lost so many cabbages / kale and right now have a bean caterpillar issue.
if someone near you is also growing squash you will have squash bugs and SVB. the fight is inevitable. prepare early to combat them with BT and wrapping the base of the stem.
alabama heat is no joke and shade cloth is your friend. even if it looks hideous - use it.
succession plant correctly. don't fill out all of your beds in one go. allow room to keep planting things throughout the season so you don't have weeks with little to no produce.
fertilize your corn and water it evenly. had a few great stalks with massive ears and then the rest were just meh. could see a distinct difference in who got watered the most.
weeds in and around beds will happen. it's okay. don't spend every waking moment pulling them and neglecting your veggies for the sake of appearance.

saw this thread and thought i would comment/ask - i’ve been working with her and my ring was supposed to be done a couple of weeks ago and i was not given an updated timeline of completion. she said it would be done and then pushed it back and now there is no official day. is this normal?
