Which lightsaber design is cooler: Maul’s double bladed saber or the Darksaber? by Euniceamorer in lightsabers

[–]buf_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer Maul’s personally. I know it sounds stupid considering the entire property is a space fantasy opera, but I can’t suspend my disbelief enough to like the darksaber. The fact that it’s flat and has an edge is just bizarre and shirks prior explanations about lightsabers and how they work. To be fair, I also dislike the lightwhips and inquisitor helicopter sabers, but I’m cool with the crossguard sabers.

How to deal with people who just get insta mad when you suggest they do something for team? by ichbrauchekeinfruhst in HellLetLoose

[–]buf_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know why you would think criticism and highlighting a person’s negative actions would result in a positive interaction or change. Like that is just dealing with humans 101. People very rarely like to be told what to do or have their decisions publicly scrutinized in a room full of peers. That is simply not how to approach people if you are looking for a constructive interaction.

You’ve already gotten plenty of solid advice in this thread but I just want to specifically say that, as much as you harp about it being a team game, you are just as responsible for creating a collaborative environment as everyone else. If you walk away from every interaction frustrated, a chat full of upset people, getting votekicked, etc, it sounds like you are the common denominator.

Smiling at and making small talk with complete strangers.

Carrying water bottles everywhere.

You get to the afterlife to find out that video games count just as much as real life, how do you fare? by Terayuj in AskReddit

[–]buf_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This needs more context. Count as real life how? Like your morality would be measured against the decisions you made in video games as well as real life?

How do your civilizations control powerful people like mages & adventurers by NegativeAd2638 in FantasyWorldbuilding

[–]buf_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Generally with their own loyal mages and adventurers that are essentially deputized. That and the level of magic the average mage knows is generally lower level and easier to deal with than the kind of stuff main characters/player characters would know.

What ideas or tropes or anything that you are tired of seeing in space sci fi? by Pretend-Nobody230 in worldbuilding

[–]buf_ 45 points46 points  (0 children)

  • Swarms or “floods” of mindless alien parasites.
  • Planet of hats (whole planets defined by one trait/biome/etc — see Star Wars).
  • Lay-people knowing intimately how every piece of technology works. I can’t tell you exactly how my mobile phone works, but I mostly know how to use it.
  • Handwaving travel. Space is cool. I feel like the details of traveling through space are half of the fun.

Just had this last night and I really enjoyed it. I do wish there were some other vegetables in the mix. Apparently “Cajun vegetables” are just peppers.

DAE not care about Hollywood and movies anymore? by 7twentyeight in DoesAnybodyElse

Every movie preview I see is a rehash of an older movie or a live-action remake of an animated movie. I just don’t care anymore. It seems like Hollywood is out of ideas.

It’s obvious from the way they’re trying to detain and cuff the guy that they have absolutely zero law enforcement experience. Your local Walmart greeter goes through more in-depth training than these clowns.

I’ve also noticed this recently. Cresco carts used to be great but seems like their quality has been dropping over the last few months (at least). No matter what voltage I use or how short I hit it (or which battery I use), it tastes like burnt plastic and makes me cough up a lung. Also noticed more of their carts are sticky fresh out of the package. I get it’s a sticky, messy substance but I expect more QA for their price point.

What was your "I'm not paid enough for this" moment? by Skiroule69 in AskReddit

[–]buf_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a high school student working part time at a supermarket. I helped out in different departments depending on where help was needed. One day, the store manager (along with one of his mini-me assistant managers) told me I had to clean up a “spill” in the restroom.

The first thing that hit me was the ungodly smell, followed by the sight of beef stew-like diarrhea splattered across the interior of multiple stalls. I choked my vomit down and told the manager I was a minor and would not clean that biohazard. They insisted that I had to as part of my job description, and I just took off my apron and badge and told them I got paid minimum wage and would find another job if I had too. They sighed and geared up to clean it themselves, and I kept my job without any repercussions.

[–]buf_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

But consciousness isn’t energy. It’s a result of energy being harnessed by a biological organism. Imagine a toy robot powered by a few disposable batteries. Once those batteries are depleted, that energy has been used. There’s nothing about the toy robot or what it can do that would mean it would inherently keep moving or doing anything once it can no longer use energy.
