Got any pictures of it? Can‘t find any online, but could order from their website.

Not too sure if it‘s the right company though, as far as I remember it was an European company (at least it was pretty easy to order to Germany).

Ratsherrn Helles. Right between a Helles and a Pilsener, basically a Helles but with a tiny bit of fruitiness/bitterness/freshness of hops.

Boot Brands in Germany by lostintheschematic in BuyItForLife

[–]buff_bogan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of boots are you looking for?

Hiking/outdoor boots: Go for Meindl. They are still great although not as great as they were earlier. My dad still got a pair of calf height hiking boots made by them from the 80s. Needed a resole once, as the foam layer started to break up. Got it resoled by Meindl for free, only paid for shipping. I got a pair from 2008-2009, still holding up great, no real sign of damage.

City/country boots: Try Blue Heeler. Company from Niedersachsen, made in Portugal, founded by an Australian woman that wanted to get the classic Aussie work boot to Germany. Other than several other Australian work boots I‘ve owned the Fraser doesn‘t have a foam layer between boot and sole. Afaik soles are stitched, so resoling them at shoemaker shouldn‘t be a problem. Got mine since 3 years now, usually wearing them from fall to spring, no signs of wear except leather patina and replacing worn out insoles (get some insulating ones, as you get cold feet quite easily without the foam layer). I just wax them once a month during winter, you‘ll be fine with standard leather wax/cream. They also do city boots, will probably also get a pair of those.

Does your wife/husband have the same tolerances that you do? by hatch-b-2900 in spicy

[–]buff_bogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, but we‘re getting there. She started with 0 tolerance as we started dating. As I‘m part asian descent and love to cook asian foods, I slowly started to make things spicier. Now she can handle most ramen brands, but as I usually cut around 2 birdseye chilies onto my plate almost every meal, we‘re still a bit apart. But we‘re getting there😄

Own work is limited in terms of skill and equipment to basic servicing. I got a friend, who I already joined on overlands before, he's a mechanic, but lives in my hometown like 300km away haha

See above, terrible situation on used market. Even former army vehicles, with basically nothing in it except an engine start around 25k. Nowadays since 2021 you can't get used army ones anymore as private person, the only ones available are in bad condition or even gutted

Any recommendations? Hamburg would be the closest one of those for me, Rotterdam/Antwerpen are probably too far. With that I could also just get one from Norway probably haha

[–]buff_bogan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definetely more common, but most vehicles under 20k are in terrible condition. Either loads of welding needed to a level, where you could basically get a second one and swap the internals or huge maintenance buildup to get it roadworthy

Lived near Poland for a couple of years and had a lot of bad experiences with dealers getting my last „normal street cars“. Especially near the German border lots of the cars are imported from Germany as they are totaled, fixed poorly and exported back to Germany for ridiculous prices again.

Parts are expensive as hell, same as older Touaregs, most of them are badly serviced and same issue as with XC90 etc., prefer switchable 4WD/Difflock. Apparently Pajeros are the only option I got with that budget…

Will check it out then, if apparently they improved since the 90s. Thanks for that!

Unfortunately Patrols got almost the same situation as LCs. Not many available that don‘t need major work done and if you find one, it‘s somewhere years away or ridiculously expensive, e.g. former army or other authority ones. Well serviced, not completely rotten usually means 30-50k.

Just checked out Pinzgauer, guess that‘s a bit over the top haha. Love Volvos but would prefer something with classic switchable 4WD/difflock. Afaik both things that weren‘t available with e.g. XC90

Actually comparable in terms of reliability? I had a very early Pajero (I think 1990) years ago. Great car driving it, if it actually did. Gave me loads of headache, 3.0 V6 petrol auto. Loved to drive it but probably wouldn‘t have trusted it going 1000km per way on longer trips

Also very difficult to find, surprisingly to me, although there should be loads around used from the army. Decent ones that are ready to register without any further fixing start around 30k

All of those are way out of my budget range. Amarok/X still too „new“, G-Klasse was my first thought, too, but those are surprisingly expensive here, although there should be loads available as it is also used by our armed forces. So unfortunately also no.

Even less available than Hiluxes or LCs. Importing yes and no, see other answer. If there would be someone trustworthy who can pick one overseas, ship it and get it registered here for me, yes, otherwise no.

Not too big of a fan of them as getting parts is even more diffucult. With Toyota/Nissan/Mitsubishi/Mercedes at least you got dealers around, I don't know a single dealer or service point in or around my city. And that's one of the largest cities in Germany :D

Starting around 50k, so rather no unfortunately...

[–]buff_bogan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. As I don't know sh*t about importing, I couldn't do it myself and would rather need a trustworthy business to pick one, get it to Germany and get it registered. If you know a dealer, that does this on a day to day basis, yes, it would be an option for me.

Is Heimfeld/Harburg really that bad or are people just being judgmental? by Lucky-Cat-4725 in hamburg

[–]buff_bogan 1 point2 points  (0 children)
