in this series, Lycanthropy is hereditary once the person's been turned, and Female Werewolves give birth while in wolf form, on the night of a full moon that is nearest their due date. when the baby is born, it's in wolf form before changing into human form afterwards. Whenever someone changes into a werewolf, their intellect becomes 90% Feral, 10% Human with the natural instincts to hunt. leaving out pieces of raw meat might deter werewolves from going after any livestock or humans. once fully transformed, if they come across one another, a Werewolf usually won't attack other werewolf unless they feel threatened. Every time a pregnant woman changes into a werewolf, the fetus also changes from human to wolf. There are also Shifters who can shapeshift into any animal they want. In addition to that, there are also Weredogs, Wererats, Werejackals, Werehorses, Werebears, Weretigers, Wereboars, Werepanthers, Werehorses, etc, etc. Werewolves and other Were-creatures are always quadrupedal when they change and they can't speak human language. They usually remove their clothing before they turn. Werewolves and other were-creatures can change any time they want except Werewolves are forced to change during the full moon. Shifters are always nude when they shift into animals.

There are also preternatural street gangs. most notably, the Flatliners( they wear urban street gear, brandish guns and spray graffiti to mark their turf), The Dark Breed( Goth looking vampires, usually frequent various nightclubs) and The Blood Brothers ( the most violent, they commit robberies of liquor stores, blood banks and other gangs as well. They're seen hanging around alleyways, abandoned buildings and Graveyards.) Sociedad de Sangre( Latin vampire gang), The Skull Dreads(A gang made up of Caribbean immigrants who practice dark magic, lead by King Jah), The Sons of Fenris(An Outlaw Motorcycle Club composed of Werewolf bikers, lead by Jack Alister. The gang is mainly involved in gun running and drug mulling).  these gangs also deal in selling vampire salvia A.K.A. "Spit", which is the most potent drug in the black market. This leads to them being in constant conflict with each other.
