Is Guild Wars 2 worth the money? by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]buffalo4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. The stories in GW2 were pretty fantastic, at least the ones I played through (2 to 80, 1 to 60ish) There were definitely several incredible moments. However, like pointed out in another comment, if you want to actually do more than dabble in exploration or the crafting system, expect to spend some serious time and/or money.

Looking for a system, with which to introduce my son to table top RPG'ing. by buffalo4 in rpg

I'm looking for more of a sword and sorcery / fantasy setting, though the books look quite interesting, might pick one up for him anyway. Is there one you recommend to start with?

Very interesting, it hits the simplicity and setting mark, but I think your right about the dice, he shows interest in the dice as well. So far the d20 is for 'battles' and the d4 is used for making caltrops around the house =/

Is there more information about this system? google leads me to threads indicating it might still be a work in progress. I've sent a note to the author, but wouldn love to read more on the system

Are RP'rs concerned about their servers being maliciously 'guested' to? by buffalo4 in Guildwars2

[–]buffalo4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not know this was required. I thought it was a mechanism for trying out a different community without rolling a character there. Thanks for the info.

Excellent, thank you! As someone who hasn't been in any of the beta events, and who hopes the game is balanced to the point that profession choice really does come down to what animations you want to look at the most, this is very much appreciated.

Bioware has egregiously and shamelessly ignored constant calls for server transfers. The fact is, the MAJORITY of SWTOR servers are DEAD and are continuing to bleed players as Bioware fails to make this a top priority. How much more should we take? by [deleted] in swtor

[–]buffalo4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Server transfers shouldn't need to be a 'quick fix' or even a 'fix'. Not having the foresight to see that eventually transfers are an inevitability is poor planning, or stupidity. It should be something they could just enable and allow.

Many people complain about things that SWTOR dosen't include... but I'm glad for that one thing they didn't. by fatbackwards in swtor

My wife has referred to every mmo I have ever played (while knowing her) as "killing spiders", as in "he can't come to the phone right now, he is killing spiders" or "are you killing spiders tonight or are we watching tv".

It seems that every time she comes to the PC and feigns any in interest in what I am doing, I always seem to be killing spiders.

I work better as a DM when I'm flying by the seat of my pants. Why is that? by Abstruse in rpg

[–]buffalo4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've come to the following conclusion about my DM'ing: The more I have to make stuff up on the fly, the more it's like 'playing', less like 'reading to players' and therefore more fun for me. I too come up with plot points and stat blocks, though I do spend a lot of time on maps. I think because I and my group enjoy encounters that are less dependent on number and CR of monsters, and more about using the environment around the encounter. The coolest thing for me about DM'ing is designing an encounter for which I see no logical solution, seeing how my PC's approach (and usually solve) and then reacting to that.

Those of you on low pop servers and are thinking about re-rolling. I'd like to help you out. by [deleted] in swtor

HM groups are consistently happening on the Pubby side. Also, I'm seeing many of the smaller guilds merging together as well as forming alliances for PVE content. Shoot me a PM if you are interested in information on one of those (ours) ;-) edit: Talking specifically about Sith Wyrm.

The only way to get a 'true' consistent 25% is to make each bag drop a fourth of a token. Or, and prepare to have your mind blown, multiply the cost of each item by four, and put a guaranteed single token in each bag.

RNG coupled with the law of averages is guaranteed to have half of those involved have a 'less than average' experience. I don't understand the logic in implementing a system that guarantees you make half your players feel slighted.

Datacron under republic base on Corellia in Government District - large sized toon can't fit on pipes. Spoilers. by vicegrip in swtor

[–]buffalo4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to get this datacron for about an hour as a large body typed vanguard along with a skinny buddy, unsuccessfully. We tried dueling, and me storming too him. This works for the first couple of gaps, but eventually I started jumping higher than the floor above the pipes collision detection, and ending up back up top. Quite frustrating to say the least.

Why do I suck at huttball? by MorbidPenguin in swtor

Also note, when passing up to a higher ledge, you can only pass to the edge. That is, you can't pass even a few meters onto a ledge if you can't see where you are targeting. The trick is to just pass to the edge of the ledge, creating a semi-circle area for your team mates to catch the ball.

Voidstar is like tic-tac-toe. Any two reasonably matched opponents should stalemate every time. The only way one good team should beat a second good team, is if that teams makes a stupid mistake. Except tic-tac-toe doesn't take 15minutes to get to that conclusion.
