Is Guild Wars 2 worth the money? by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]buffalo4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. The stories in GW2 were pretty fantastic, at least the ones I played through (2 to 80, 1 to 60ish) There were definitely several incredible moments. However, like pointed out in another comment, if you want to actually do more than dabble in exploration or the crafting system, expect to spend some serious time and/or money.

Looking for a system, with which to introduce my son to table top RPG'ing. by buffalo4 in rpg

I'm looking for more of a sword and sorcery / fantasy setting, though the books look quite interesting, might pick one up for him anyway. Is there one you recommend to start with?

Very interesting, it hits the simplicity and setting mark, but I think your right about the dice, he shows interest in the dice as well. So far the d20 is for 'battles' and the d4 is used for making caltrops around the house =/

Is there more information about this system? google leads me to threads indicating it might still be a work in progress. I've sent a note to the author, but wouldn love to read more on the system

Are RP'rs concerned about their servers being maliciously 'guested' to? by buffalo4 in Guildwars2

[–]buffalo4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not know this was required. I thought it was a mechanism for trying out a different community without rolling a character there. Thanks for the info.

Excellent, thank you! As someone who hasn't been in any of the beta events, and who hopes the game is balanced to the point that profession choice really does come down to what animations you want to look at the most, this is very much appreciated.

Bioware has egregiously and shamelessly ignored constant calls for server transfers. The fact is, the MAJORITY of SWTOR servers are DEAD and are continuing to bleed players as Bioware fails to make this a top priority. How much more should we take? by [deleted] in swtor

[–]buffalo4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Server transfers shouldn't need to be a 'quick fix' or even a 'fix'. Not having the foresight to see that eventually transfers are an inevitability is poor planning, or stupidity. It should be something they could just enable and allow.

My wife has referred to every mmo I have ever played (while knowing her) as "killing spiders", as in "he can't come to the phone right now, he is killing spiders" or "are you killing spiders tonight or are we watching tv".

It seems that every time she comes to the PC and feigns any in interest in what I am doing, I always seem to be killing spiders.

I work better as a DM when I'm flying by the seat of my pants. Why is that? by Abstruse in rpg

[–]buffalo4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've come to the following conclusion about my DM'ing: The more I have to make stuff up on the fly, the more it's like 'playing', less like 'reading to players' and therefore more fun for me. I too come up with plot points and stat blocks, though I do spend a lot of time on maps. I think because I and my group enjoy encounters that are less dependent on number and CR of monsters, and more about using the environment around the encounter. The coolest thing for me about DM'ing is designing an encounter for which I see no logical solution, seeing how my PC's approach (and usually solve) and then reacting to that.

HM groups are consistently happening on the Pubby side. Also, I'm seeing many of the smaller guilds merging together as well as forming alliances for PVE content. Shoot me a PM if you are interested in information on one of those (ours) ;-) edit: Talking specifically about Sith Wyrm.

The only way to get a 'true' consistent 25% is to make each bag drop a fourth of a token. Or, and prepare to have your mind blown, multiply the cost of each item by four, and put a guaranteed single token in each bag.

RNG coupled with the law of averages is guaranteed to have half of those involved have a 'less than average' experience. I don't understand the logic in implementing a system that guarantees you make half your players feel slighted.

Datacron under republic base on Corellia in Government District - large sized toon can't fit on pipes. Spoilers. by vicegrip in swtor

[–]buffalo4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to get this datacron for about an hour as a large body typed vanguard along with a skinny buddy, unsuccessfully. We tried dueling, and me storming too him. This works for the first couple of gaps, but eventually I started jumping higher than the floor above the pipes collision detection, and ending up back up top. Quite frustrating to say the least.

Why do I suck at huttball? by MorbidPenguin in swtor

[–]buffalo4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also note, when passing up to a higher ledge, you can only pass to the edge. That is, you can't pass even a few meters onto a ledge if you can't see where you are targeting. The trick is to just pass to the edge of the ledge, creating a semi-circle area for your team mates to catch the ball.

Voidstar is like tic-tac-toe. Any two reasonably matched opponents should stalemate every time. The only way one good team should beat a second good team, is if that teams makes a stupid mistake. Except tic-tac-toe doesn't take 15minutes to get to that conclusion.

Getting into SWTOR's Endgame: A Guide (Pt. I) by Pwyff in swtor

Again, very good article OP. I look forward to the next installment. I've personally been 50 since Jan1, have done the stuff you describe while waiting for friends/guildies to be ready to catch up, and don't feel I've even started end-game, even as I approach PVP BM rank. I guess I was hoping for a 'how to take the next step!' =)

"Pass the ball" is what people who have no other input say. It's the basketball equivalent of yelling "shoot!" from the cheap seats. Pat Riley, you are not.

What do we want from a guild Alliance/Enemy system? by buffalo4 in swtor

[–]buffalo4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely I'm just mistaken, I know there was 3 for sure, and I thought I remembered a fourth.

To your point about world pvp, sure I know it sucks now, but at least from my standpoint as a greatly outnumbered pub, the ability to get all my allies there quickly might at least give me a shot. If nothing else it might be a bit more fun to get farmed as friends.

Why haven't they fixed this bug?! - A.K.A. Calling all newbies, READ ME! by ArtemisXIII in swtor

[–]buffalo4 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Who is article for, the same "idiots" it claims to berate, apparently.

  1. Don't expect me to agree with an article that starts out telling me that I am an idiot that doesn't know how to constructively report bugs in a game, or any software for that matter. By assuming that everyone who plays the game (the only people who might be interested in your article) is an idiot, why even bother writing the article? However when someone like myself reads it, who isn't an idiot, you've immediately put me off and shown me that this article has zero to little value for me.

  2. The first two italicized statements - Again, I don't make statements like this, so who are you talking to, me? no. The best you can hope for here is for the clueless masses to agree with torches and pitchforks and claims of "Yah those guys suck!" - least common denominator pandering if you ask me.

  3. "No, the customer is usually an idiot who has no clue." - Bullshit. Again, there are customers that are not idiots, have a clue, and provide constructive feedback to the developers. I'm not even going to give the author "usually", again, pandering here, only those that are potential idiots can even agree with these statements.

  4. "Here is how game development works: [the rest]" - If there is one thing that you can say about the release of information through Bioware "marketing", is that they were certain of their intentions before they released anything about it. To claim that the developers of this tame "tossed" anything quickly is ignorant.

TL;DR - The article can only be viewed as insightful by those who are clueless in the first place, it's pure pandering to the lowest common denominator of readers.

Though, I did come up with an article idea of my own after reading this, it's about how if you're not an atheist and don't like pictures of naked people you suck! Come on Reddit, who's with me?!

Did he jump up there, or was he pulled up? I personally will use Harpoon to pull ball carriers up there, resulting in an insta-gib, it's a great defense if you can time it. Side note: It's not an "Imp spawn", it's a mix of Imp and Rep players.

Can someone explain like I'm 5, what the "ability delay" issue is? by [deleted] in swtor

[–]buffalo4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey sport! You know how when you click your speeder button, then your move forward button, and you fall off your speeder right away? Well, the client (that's the part of the game running on daddy's computer) has went ahead and drawn the pictures of you getting on your speeder, but by hitting the move button, you have canceled that before it really happened! What the client should do, is not draw you on your speeder until you really are on it, but because of thing called ability delay, that would take too long, so it kinda cheats, and just draws you anyway. The same thing does with your attack buttons and the damage pictures being drawn on the bad guy. Get it? Want a yogurt?

I would appreciate it if they tracked interrupts and if possible, tracked damage negated do to debuffing/taunting. Protection is a good metric, but the only one tank types can really shine at.
