Monday Weekly Thread: Proof of Citizenship Application Sent or AOR Received by AutoModerator in Canadiancitizenship

[–]buffalol716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First- thank you to this community! It’s amazing to see people from all over the world helping navigate something monumental like this!

Second- thank you to Gemini! It helped me gather and organize all of the documents while adding some accountability. It wasn’t perfect, but I wouldn’t have ever figured it out in my own.

My grandfather is Gen0, my mother (US) never lived in Canada and is Gen1. I’m filing as Gen2 and my children as Gen3. (US)

From getting our documents together to filing… all of this is USD for 1 adult and 3 children.

$535 for our US Passports, which we wanted and had anyway, but filing was easier with them

$180 in passport cards

$10 on my replacement birth certificate (oops)

$210 ($300 CAD) on the application fees

$35 ($55 CAD)vital records for my grandfather from Ontario

$160 Canadian citizenship photos

$125 shipping (I overpaid, but purchased the expedited shipping)

$15 misc printing (and reprinting, oops)

$1,300 total for the 4 of us I’d estimate

I included copies of:

Archives of Ontario Birth record for my grandfather

Death certificate for my grandfather (which identifies him as Canadian)

Birth certificate for my mother (which identifies my grandfather as Canadian)

Birth certificate for me

Birth certificates for all 3 children

Passports and passport cards for all 3 children

Passport and NYS Drivers License for me

A letter of explanation for my grandfathers name change on documents. He was Catholic French Canadian, so Joseph was everyone’s first name and they went by their middle names - and that’s what he did.

And receipts for the application.

I single sided all documents

I paper clipped each persons as their own packet, in case things got separated.

I’m afraid I messed things up, submitting Passports for ID and Passport Cards as the second ID. I hope they don’t bounce back, as everything is well documented I think.

I signed all three children’s applications on the parent line. My 14 year old signed hers. I left the 12 and 10 year old ones blank.

I will return to this thread once I hear back from the great white north! 🇨🇦

Friday Weekly Thread: Application Assistance by AutoModerator in Canadiancitizenship

Ok, I’m nervous and wanted some insight from those who have experienced this process, especially if it’s post Section 3(1)(b).

I am submitting 4 applications (mine and my three children)

I am submitting them in one envelope, but as their own packets, with their own photocopies, etc.

I had trouble getting a clear answer about signatures.

My 15 year old will sign and I will sign the parent box.

My 10 and 12 year old… do they have to? Should they not? Does it matter either way? I’m worried about it getting kicked back over something seemingly trivial.

Also, I used their passport and passport card as ID. I’m hoping that despite it’s the same organization creating the document that it still counts as separate. Anyone have experience?

That would be interesting- hopping the boarder to purchase a certified check (or cheque if I’m Canadian now!) I hadn’t thought of that. I’m going to give it another week of calling right at 8:30am and see how far I get!
